True crime. DNA on a discarded Vanilla Coke can, along with some creative investigation would lead to an arrest over a 40 year old Colorado cold case to the death of Sylvia Quayle. David Dwayne Anderson, 62, of Cozad Nebraska, was arrested in February 2021 following the DNA match. Investigators used a creative new way of tracking the suspect, with a combination of cutting edge DNA technology and internet databasing.

I love that many of these killers think “I am a lone wolf. They will never catch me.” and they are brought down by the fact that their great Aunt got interested in genealogy and wanted to see if she had Italian ancestry by DNA.

when submitting your DNA to places like 23AndMe, the submitter has to consent to their DNA being put in public databases. people can still be tracked down by creating a family tree starting with the DNA of a relative (close or distant)- it just takes a lot longer the golden state killer was identified through public DNA databases through DNA he shared with someone that came from a great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great (13 greats!!) grandfather. took them a few years but they also got the DNA match through his disposed trash

maybe I'm wrong but the idea of going to prison as a 65 year old is a lot less scary than at 25 even ignoring the sentence length. No one is going to want him as their girlfriend, or mess with him too much as hes no threat to anyone, while if sentenced when younger he'd maybe have suffered a lot more. if i was the victims family this wouldn't satisfy me, even though no more could be done.

Usually people aren’t only put in jail to “satisfy their family” though. Prison shouldn’t always be viewed as a punishment, it’s to keep dangerous people out of society or to rehabilitate, depending on the crime. Also, think about if the victim, if they didn’t have a family, but the perpetrator would still be imprisoned.

I’ve come and gone with these crime channels until I came across this one here. The stories are generally all lesser known and when they are big name cases, you manage to tell the story better than a Netflix special made on the same topic. Different perspective and a well done background story and respectful telling and remembrance of the victims is always like the key point of your videos. I love it. Keep up the great videos and the great writing as well my dude. One of the few 5 star channels in my personal opinion of channels.

One of my favorite cases where they catch the guy after many years due to modern technology. It's great to see more and more of these older cases solved, I think it sends a strong message. Never stop looking over your shoulder because you will be caught.

This was during a time where the media was sensationalizing these crimes, turning the suspects into functional celebrities. Many people "confessed" to multiple crimes during this period for their shot at fame/history. It got so bad that the police had to demand that the media stop making their job nearly impossible with their overzealous chase for ratings.

Back in 1990 while stained in Schweinfurt, Germany, I was a Special Agent assigned to the CID office. I investigated the murder of an officer's wife during which DNA was used the first time in a homicide case. Not only was the suspect apprehended but he was linked to seven or eight unsolved homicides in the Chicago area. It took numerous investigative man hours and the courage of a rape victim to solve the case.

When you referred to “Central Bureau of Investigation” was it CBI? That is most likely the *Colorado* Bureau of Investigation. Each state has state-level organizations like Departments of Investigation, because most cases are state jurisdictions, not Federal. We in the US don’t have a Central, but a Federal Bureau of Investigation. We have Counties that are what you have used “Council” for, as they are jurisdictions when a person doesn’t live within city or town limits. And last, and definitely weirdest of all, Otis Toole, pronounced his name “Ah-tis”. I have no idea why, but it’s a weird fact that you now know. You’re welcome. 🤷‍♀️

Pretty much how they caught Golden State Killer/EARONS. They had his DNA saved. Got the family tree narrowed it down to 2 possible suspects. Went through his trash, got a tissue, and presto! Like fucking magic. Perfect match. Sad to say but I would love a film about the whole thing, it’s insane. Something like Zodiac/Mindhunters.

8:20 I'm curious how that works from a legal standpoint - prosecuting someone under laws that were in place 40 years ago (instead of laws that are in place today?). So many questions.... Does the court set aside the laws between now and then? What makes that legal? Is there a statute or law that enforces or encourages this? Why do they do that? Is it advantageous? Does this only happen with murder cases?
