How a Southern Baptist PASTOR Found Catholic Truth

I am a souther Baptist, and my wife and i are starting RCIA this Sunday. I have been studying Catholicism for 8 months and concluded by listening to the early church fathers that the Catholic Church is RIGHT. My church always teaches that Paul is are Apostle and Jesus teaching is for the Jews only. The church only obeyed Paul letters and said Jesus' teaching is not for Gentiles only for Jews in that era. Pray for us as we start our first RCIA class this Sunday. The only thing I struggle with is praying to the saints and Mary.

“IF” you have not already, please consider going to Adoration of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament (also known as “Holy Hour”). Call your local parish and find out when they offer it. Then, just go and sit in silence in Christ’s Presence. Take your bible. Read scripture, pray, contemplate. Tell the Lord of your search for truth, of your doubts, worries, even fears. Then, be as patient with Him as He has been with you. When you receive the grace to know that HE IS THERE, you will be forever changed. Miracles occur in Christ’s presence - of that I can personally attest. ***You need not pray to the Saints, but give it time. I overcame all such objections at a Catholic bible study!

I was a Pentacostal and when I was quite young I did something that shocked my pastor. I read the Bible and went mega literal. I went so literal I thought that communion was literally the body and blood of Christ. Their only defense was ... "That can't be true....if it were we would have to be Catholic" The were wrong of course they could have been Orthodox as well ;) That being said about 5 years after that I converted. I got deep into church history and scripture, and I ended up Catholic. It is a definite pattern.

@@cbooth151 pretty much everything that was asaid in the video. everything clicked when i was warching st jahn paul Ii"s funeral purely for historical purposes. they had him laid iut on a little cart, and they were talking about the little red slippers that he was wearing which every pope had worn for every funeral in front of the church where sts peter and paul were buried deep down. all of a sudden, i understood the aposrolic succession, and i started crying. it was then that i knew! it took my breath away! it was then that i called my friend, pamela. we had never discussed religion before.

History shows us that Jesus didn't leave us a bible, - the apostles didn't tell us which books belong in the bible, - the church fathers never agreed on the 27 books, and ONLY the 27 books of the NT through the 4th century, - not only did they not agree but their individual lists of would-be NT canons were GROWING during this time. Therefore, if it wasn't the Catholic/Orthodox church, guided by the Holy Spirit, that compiled the 27 books of the NT in the 4th century, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and preserved these scriptures by laboriously hand copying them over and over throughout the centuries before the invention of the printing press, the “rule of faith” for many, please tell us who did? And if this church no longer exists today, what good is the text which came forth from her if she couldn't sustain herself? Peace!!!

@srich7503 a complete scroll of Isaiah was found and it has very small differences with our own bibles . Most of the prophecies are in Isaiah and of course in Jeremiah and the psalms. Anyhow who did write the 4 gospels then any evidence of who.

I was not raised in faith much of my youth, although I was baptized and had first communion. Other than that, there was no discussion of faith talked about in our household. This was in Los Angeles. That seems odd to me now there it is. I became an atheist by default, being an easy person for Protestants to plant faith in me and eventually became a bible Christian, this in my late twenties.

Great question. One continues as he normally would. I think this quote from St. Thomas More (addressing Martin Luther) says a lot: “What especially moves me is this: that if according to Luther’s idea the vices of men are to be imputed to the offices they hold, not only will the Papacy fall, but royalty, and dictatorship, and consulate, and every other kind of magistracy, and the people will be rulers, without law, and without order.” "Vices of men" can easily be replaced with "unclear comments of men" and remind us that the pope is not impeccable. Never was, never is. Furthermore, I for one have no business critiquing every single thing that comes out of the pope's mouth. None of us have his role and therefore have no clue what it means to deliver universal messages across all cultures and situations. We will never sleep until we trust in God and pray for the pope and his extremely difficult role. People are leaving the Church to find what? A perfect earthly leader? Not going to happen. Meanwhile, the magisterium will continue without error.

Listened with great interest. To begin, one comment Scott made was "were could you find a good source of teaching"? Well when I was born again in 92 that wasn't a problem. I knew very little, but went to Christian bookstores and there was so much. But I did notice one writer that had a huge number of books on all the most intriguing subjects and that was Watchman Nee, the Chinese evangelist. What an incredible source! Gave me a great grounding. Of course there sre the classic authors like Charles Spurgeon, Arthur Pink, Oswald Chambers. And more modern such as Warren Wiersbe, Derek Prince. But for me there was also Moody Radio which at the time was focused on teaching rather than music entertainment, but the young crowd no longer is interested in sound teaching. And if you know God though sound biblical teaching you would know there is no reason for infant baptism which leads me to believe that Scott had weak biblical teaching and was understandably confused by studying the reformers who got a few things right but were all over the place on doctrines. The purpose of baptism according to the Bible is Death and burial, not new life (of the spirit) which happened when one repents. Romans 6:3 [3]Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? And then the next telling thing is that when you lose your faith in the authority of scripture, you take yourself down a slippery slope from which it is hard to recover. This is biblical authority... 2 Peter 1:18-19,21 [18]And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. [19]We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: [21]For the prophecy came not in any time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. St. Peter here is showing that the Holy Word takes presedence over all tradition or experience and of course no on had a greater experience than Peter on the Mount of Transfiguration, but he assures us that the written scripture is the "more sure word". That is the biblical basis of Sola Scriptura. Scott just lacked sound teaching. I might be there too without a firm foundation. But I would encourage Scott to repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. I understand he prayed the "sinner's prayer " , you must also understand the gospel and how lost you are without the blood of Jesus and how to receive. There is no sacrament that can help you... John 1:12-13 [12]But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: [13]Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Which Catholic Church did this man join? The Catholic Church which says that salvation depends upon one's submission to the pope (Unam Sanctam) and one's union with Rome (Cantate Domino)? Or the Catholic Church which says that all religions are valid roads to God (Pope Francis)? Neither of the above align with the truths proclaimed in the Bible, (1) that salvation is by God's gift of grace through faith in Jesus Christ (not through faith in the church of Rome) and (2) that all who believe in Jesus as Savior will have eternal life but all who do not believe will be condemned.

There was a growing underground movement to elevate Mary to a position closer to being equal with Christ, if not with the Father. You probably remember the ruling by the Pope to make Mary the "Co-Redemptrix" with her Son and there is even a church (I think in Spain) with a two-sided crucifix above the alter with Christ on one side and Mary on the other! That was the direction they were taking me in. I'm just glad they didn't give me the stigmata or an apparition of Mary! It was a close call! And, yes, I, like Luther, am a Protestant.

Martin Luther was a Catholic monk that actually studied the Scriptures and somewhat rightly divided them which brought to light the FACT that the accomplishments of Jesus Christ at Calvary paid the sin debt of the entire human race, thus making it possible for God to offer eternal life to anyone that by placing their faith in Christ is placed into Christ by the Holy Spirit who then seals that person in Christ, where his accomplishments then become the attributes of the believer, Ephesians 4:30 KJV. He saw the dichotomy between that truth and what the RCC was preaching which drove him to write his 95 theses and nail them to the church door. So, yes, I'd consider that a "protest"! Martin Luther was just a start because he still retained some of the legalism and sacramentalism of Catholicism. Other godly men did the rest of the labor until we finally have the truth that pagan Gentiles like everyone is today (after the Jews failed to receive their kingdom in Acts due to their rejection of the Messiah) were not ever even allowed to be saved to eternal life until Acts ended and Paul received the revelation of the Mystery. There will be no return to Prophecy; Christ returns during the Mystery we are presently operating within: Colossians 3:4; 1:13 KJV!

Catholic truth makes about as much sense as calling someone an honest thief. There are so many lies in Catholicism that I've lost count. So, if Catholics have the truth, where in the Bible or in any other document did Jesus teach that... 1. statues and relics can be worshiped? 2. unmarried priests must be bound to celibacy? 3. the Father, Son, and holy spirit make up "One Incomprehensible"? 4. Mary could be worshiped? 5. the Godhead is triune? 6. the prayers of the Rosary can be recited? 7. Mary was immaculately conceived? 8. Peter was the first pope? 9. "we worship one God in trinity"? 10. the Father, Son, and holy spirit are one in nature, essence, and substance? 11. "the Cross of Christ" and the "Crown of Thorns" can be worshiped? 12. the Father, Son, and holy spirit make up the same "One Lord"? 13. the holy spirit is a person? 14. Jesus' birthday was celebrated one December 25th? 15. meat was not to be consumed on Fridays or during Lent? 16. the Father, Son, and holy spirit are co-equal in glory? 17. homosexuals are "children of God"? 18. novenas could be recited? 19. babies could be baptized? 20. priests could be addressed as 'Father'? 21. Mary was a perpetual virgin? 22. the Father, Son, and holy spirit are co-eternal in majesty? 23. Jesus was "true God from true God"? 24. Mary "has a separate and absolutely super-eminent rank among the saints"? 25. purgatory is real? 26. Mary could be prayed to? Clearly, Catholic truth and Christian truth are two totally different things.
