Handy hint for those who wish to start juggling: always start with three chiffon scarves and do the juggling with your arms stretched out over your bed. They scarves are very floaty, so you have lots of time to catch them and practice WHEN to catch them (it's NOT while they are on their way up, but when they are on their way DOWN). Also, by doing the practice over your bed, you will not have to bend down to the floor to pick them up each time you drop one, so this is less fatiguing and easier on your back. Fun times......! 🤩

How true, that later in life a lot of us try to avoid failure and only stick to what we know inside the comfort zone. But that way we sabotage any real progress. I love the message behind what this man has achieved.

I've never heard Dr. Mike say "wow" so many times in one video - and in every one you could hear it was sincere. Very entertaining 😂 and also gave me more appreciation for what was being discussed, because he has more insight than I could have about what actually goes into dealing with these physical and mental challenges. Loved this video all round 👏

The timing of this video could not have been better, just this week I registered for my first ever triathlon for the day before my 40th birthday in August not having ever participated in any races beyond walks for charity my entire life and I was kind of freaking out wondering what I got myself into despite it being something on my bucket list for a long time that I always thought would be cool to celebrate turning 40 with! So thanks for the indirect inspiration to overcome my fears and anxiety and live free tri-ing 🙂.

That record certificate is a great example of how only one person can put the hard work and effort in a project to make it successful and yet the rest of the team members get to boast the winning trophy only by showing up. Great video of 1hr 20 minutes demonstrating how perseverance, showing up, grit, etc MAY get you to where you want BUT luck can get you there in an instance. Brilliant long form video explanation of Veritasium's Luck Vs Hard Work, Doctor Mike. And congratulations on that world record. You DESERVED it. :)

Nice! Doctor Mike this is incredible I was just writing down in Reddit about this! This video helped me exemplify almost exactly what I was trying to convey in what I wrote. I can only say it is a big coincidence that 1. I am subscribed to you channel. 2. You just created this video like 1 hour ago according to what I'm shown in KZbin. 3. That I was specifically talking about this. 4. This video is shown to me exactly when I was thinking about winding out and see if I could look for some sources to back what I was saying later. Hell, I haven't even read de title of the video not even in the thumbnail. I was just trying to wind out and You are always a good way to wind out and learn something else at the same time. I just saw the video was made by you and that's all I needed at that moment for winding out. And I find out that your video. This video I am still watching right now gives a good example of what I was talking about. Man! the algorithm works fine but this goes a little beyond just the algorithm.

Dude sounds like a terrible husband and dad. Leaves his wife and kids at Disneyland to skip around. When asked about barriers to his success he mentions his wife as the only barrier. His wife works a full time job, and raises the kids and cleans the house while he f’s around and breaks meaningless records like eating the most peas with a tooth pick. He continually mentions the stress he puts his wife through by doing needlessly dangerous stunts like balancing a running chainsaw on his chin. He constantly talks about his own mental health and what his wife does for him but he never once shows concern for her mental health or what he can do for her.

I am writing a book, and if on eof my characters stabbed the other in the upper thigh with a pocket knife, could it hit the femoral artery? If so, how long until the character passed out? Would they pass out? When they are stabbed and the knife is pulled put, will it spray blood at the person how stabbed them? I'm sorry this is so detailed, I just can't find the answer online. Mike, I just wonder how frustrated his wife gets after she works and takes care of their kids and he's off spending many hours on breaking these records...... I know people need hobbies but a family where one parent does most of the child raising tasks can be unfair and exhausting. Also, why are people so obsessed with failure? Do people really believe they need to fail in order to eventually be successful? Being successful doesn't require people to fail at things in life many times before becoming successful. We also tend to think that when people stop doing something it's because they quit or failed. Sometimes people stop doing things because they know it's very unhealthy for them to keep doing what they're doing. Or they know what they're doing is for the benefit of people other than themselves and want to put their time and resources into something that will actually benefit themselves. I think we need to start looking at this as people just made a different choice instead of they quit or failed. Most people know themselves and do what is best for them, who are we to say they quit or failed when they decided to do something different that would be better for them? ❤ Mia

First, you don't know their situation; I think it's unfair to assume his wife is living in a state of frustration when you only hear David's side of the story. It's probable that yes, at times, she shouldered the burden of their relationship, and their family, but it's pretty clear by how he talks about his wife that if hunting these records was destroying his relationship and his family, then he'd give it up, because family is more important. He doesn't need do to this--he worked in tech for over a decade, and his wife is an engineer as well. Secondly, failure is an unavoidable part of life. That is a fact. How many people do you know have succeeded at something on one attempt? How many babies start and continue walking successfully after their first steps? How many do you know have never failed a test or exam? The most successful people will tell you they've failed dozens if not hundreds of times before they've succeeded. Whether it's learning a new skill or simply trying to progress through life, you're going to fail at something. That said, I agree with what you said at the end. Sometimes, quitting should be instead viewed as making a difference choice. It depends on the context. Oftentimes, though, people "make a difference choice" because the thing they're attaining for became difficult. It got hard. They encountered more resistance than expected. And when you pivot for _that_ reason, that's quitting. You can argue that they pivoted to something better for them, but if they're changing course because things got harder, that is an application of the definition ("stop or discontinue an action of activity").

Not to downplay what the man did, but Guinness (World Records) is only in it for the money - you can have anything listed on their site, no matter how specific, as long as you have a grand to fork over. To specify, to have a record officially acknowledged, you need to pay them to get one of their referees to oversee the record in person. But if you just want a certificate, you can buy one for about 50 bucks. All this to say... I wish there was a non-profit record organisation.
