Yeah I've had to do that many times. You should get out and make sure of your pin alignment and don't hit it too hard but it is more than doable.

We can not do that over here in the Netherlands. Or at least not when the trailer axle is a steered axle. You may not connect it at an angle because you gonna bust up the linkage that steers them wheels at the back. But with a rigid axle trailer it is of course the way to go.

Push that trailer. The brakes are set, and the trailer will pivot. The opening of your 5th wheel is vide, just for that reason. And that's the issue with KWs....turning radius of an aircraft carrier.

Always check BOL before you leave shipper and aways check if it's your paperwork and has correct info. In your case the lack of BOL! J/J! It happens to the best of us!

Word to the wise Dave always read your paperwork before you leave always, never trust your dispatch they can mess up..You can back under a trailer at an angle you actually had it your 1st time. Just go slow and see how high plate is..

You could of got it the first time. If you go in at Ann angle you can get it. I had to do that one timel. It was literally a 45° angle. It can be done. You might get a yard dog next time. Line up your fifth wheel with the king pin and back up. You'll do it one of these days. Guaranteed

It takes a lot of practice to be able to get under a trailer from an angle, but it can be did. I had to pick up a trailer at a ninety degree angle one time. It took a while

Just an fyi, you can hook at an angle, you don't have to be str8 with trlr to hook. Just get out halfway and make sure ur kingpen goes in the 5th wheel

Honestly, I also thought that you were going to do the 45-degree angle backup, which I honestly only know about in theory, lol. I have 45° and eve 90° hooked TONS of trailers. Just line up. (Before you start under the trailer) get out. Check your within the tongs of the 5th wheel. And just give her a good push under and she will saddle up. It's literally the same at any angle as straight on. I've NEVER skipped the 5th. Or some the trailer into anything. It's worth the challenge dave. It will help you get more comfortable.

I never did hook up to a trailer at a 45 have done it at a full 90 with a gravel train though and what I had to do it raise just a tad and I think the lead is 25 ft with three axles and hooked on just fine

Dave, remember what you've learned in CDL school. Each terminal, warehouse, distribution Center's, yards and other center will be different and how those trailers either docked or parked. And how many trailers are parked in those zones, but the main matter When you arrive, wether it may be a drop/ hook, a serpentine, C Side, Alley Dock or Blind Side. Do not be concern about your backing, there are times you may have get out and look. What you been doing is good job and keep it up; Even at times I do watch videos on backing skills strengthen my knowledge from the CDL Ref 2-3 Basic Control Of Your Vehicle Especially on Backing

I've been to that Michael's before. I was told to drop my loaded anywhere and that the previous Schneider driver said there were no empties. I found 2, one was completely blocked, but I managed to hook up to the other by coming it at a 45° angle.

Always check the paperwork in front of the Shipping Clerks/Security so if there are any discrepancies, ie: no paperwork it can be handled then not 20 minutes down the road. They have their procedures to do things, set precedence for what you need to do also, you waited on them, they can wait for a few on you my friend...

You could do 2 things: 1. Move that front trailer by yourself. Screw the yard donkey. You gotta do what you gotta do. It’s just a trailer, what’s the worst that could happen? 2. You can back up and hook up at up to 90° either side. You will have to move the lines on the slider bar and get up on the catwalk to get your connections hooked up but it WILL work. You wanna make sure the height is just right though so you don’t push the trailer sideways. Remember: the kingpin is cylindrical, not a square or triangle, it’ll hook, don’t worry. Try it sometime but just make sure you will clear on your swing out.

You are a rookie, yes it’s possible and easy to hook up on different angles including L shape pull out . Long as your pin aligns and your cables stretch you can do it, the only time I wouldn’t recommend it is when it’s icy and snow. Trailer tends to slip off the fifth wheel and slide off

You could've easily backed up to it at a 90 deg angle, doesnt always have to be straight under, then the hoses stretch, hell i went to places where yard dog would park the trailers nose to rear and you couldn't back under at an angle either, had to back under at a 90 to the trailer. That maneuver is so easy to get it at an angle lock that kingpin hook the 2 lines and slightly raise the landing gears to go back and forward enough to position yourself better also as long as the back end doesn't swing and hit the front of the other trailers its not that hard
