Thanks so much for the high-quality content you regularly post, Dr. Tabor, as well as the respectful tone of your engagement style. Discovering the unknown (and/or outright suppressed) history you and others are revealing has had catastrophic consequences to the faith I've so ardently held for the majority of my life. Going through that sort of fundamental upheaval in one's conceptual scheme (at age 50, no less) is difficult enough without the posturing and condescension I've so frequently encountered. This prompts me to appreciate your content all the more.

13:08 This teacher of justice (righteousness) is in Joel 2:23. The footnote I have is: 2, 23 The teacher of justice: the rain sent by God to show his fidelity to his promises, and to teach his people to be faithful to his commandments; cf Dt 11,14. There is also a play on words here between the Hebrew moreh (teacher) and the Hebrew yoreh (early rain). The expression likewise has a messianic connotation; cf Is 30,20. The founder of the Essene sect of Qumran (second century B.C.) was known as "The Teacher of Justice."

Regardless of whom one believes is the "servant", the blood of a human sacrifice cannot atone for anything. It's an abomination according to the very Torah Yeshua and Yochanan followed. It's the "DEATH" of the righteous that can atone. While Isa 53 speaks of the death of the servant as being "like" an asham (guilt) offering whose blood atones (and also requires an additional 20% restitution above and beyond the offering), that metaphor does NOT mean that the blood of a HUMAN BEING atones. The blood here is a metaphor for the servant's "life" (nephesh) that is sacrificed. There is NO MENTION of the servant's BLOOD in Isaiah 53. Here (and elsewhere) "blood" and "life" are synonymous (Lev 17:11); "...the LIFE (nephesh) of the flesh is IN the BLOOD." The servant gives his "LIFE" for the many. Yeshua did not die from loss of blood like the asham and Yochanan the Immerser did. I think translating "soul" for "nephesh" instead of "life" gives the wrong impression. He sacrificed his LIFE, not his SOUL... as did Yochanan. Excellent teaching, as usual, Dr Tabor.

You say Jesus might have found in Isaiah 53 an explanation of John's suffering and death because it refers to a servant who had to suffer. But I've read or heard from two or more scholars that the servant in John 53 is Israel, that it is the fourth "servant song" in Isaiah. In those earlier occurrences, it is clear (so some scholars have said) that the servant is Israel. But here's Dr. Tabor speaking of the servant in Isaiah 53 as Christians do, as referring to an individual. What's going on here?

People reinterpret texts all the time. Throughout history readers have seen themselves in the Biblical texts
@Writer538 Жыл бұрын
@@therunaway9515 We can casually say people do and have done this "all the time." Too easy. People, cultures, and civilizations have also held certain ideas for centuries. I recognize that even Jews re-interpreted their own texts. But, from what I understand, understanding "the suffering servant" as Israel was an age-old understanding. Besides, it is not "just" an interpretation; it is what logically follows from the three previous references to God's servant Israel.

Another installment in the alternative (to the fundamentalist's) narrative. I doubt it will resonate with the religious because, well, no miracles, etc. Also, it does seem some historians want to put the John-the-Baptist story as among the most historical (that is, an actual chronicle of what really happened) bits that made it into the NT. But my question immediately is then this: how many ranting zealots did Herod or the Romans execute? If there were many (and there probably were), then how do we know _if any single one_ is the backstory for what made it into the canonical gospels, or if the Baptist story is just a summary of the events at that time?

I recently started homeschooling them due to bullying and other issues. Since they are special needs it’s easier not to expose them to certain situations because their behavior is so unpredictable. I lost my job at Forsyth hospital for declining the vaccine. I declined because of my health conditions lupus, and heart disease. Since losing my job I’ve been struggling to support my children and myself. I’m now waitressing and I’m grateful but I’m not making nearly enough. JESUS HELP me. I’m CRYING OUT TO YOU. I’m tired of struggling. Having children with autism is extremely time consuming and expensive. Struggling to buy groceries. Struggling to pay rent. It hasn’t been easy. Why me Lord? In the bustling heart of Jerusalem, beneath the shadow of the Temple, a man named Jesus was hailed by the crowd. They named him the Messiah, the long-awaited king of the Jews. His words of truth, love, and revolution stirred their hearts, making them dare to hope that the iron hand of Rome might finally be lifted from their necks. However, Jesus' proclamation was deemed a threat by the Roman authorities and those within the Jewish establishment who sought to maintain a tenuous peace with their occupiers. Jesus was arrested in the cover of night on the Mount of Olives, betrayed and abandoned by his closest friends. In chains, he was dragged before the infamous Roman governor, Pontius Pilate. Historians have painted Pilate as a stubborn and conniving figure, one whose character was often marred by his mischievous and sly dealings. In accordance with the ius gentium and lex Julia, Pilate ordered Jesus to be crucified along with two of his disciples who had brandished swords against the Roman guards during Jesus's arrest. He was flogged, a cruel prelude to the agonizing death that awaited him on a Roman cross. In the wake of Jesus' death, his disciples hid in Jerusalem, waiting, grieving, and grappling with the shattering of their dreams. A week passed with no miraculous appearances, no heavenly signs - nothing but silence. But then, weeks later in Galilee, Peter, also known as Cefas, the rock upon which Jesus said he would build his church, saw a man walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee. The figure was familiar - a silent silhouette against the breaking dawn. Could it be? As quickly as the thought formed, the figure vanished, leaving Peter staring out at the endless sea. That night, Peter was roused from sleep, paralyzed and helpless in the strange limbo between dreams and waking. He saw a figure standing beside his bed - the very image of Jesus. His voice was as clear and calm as it had ever been, dispelling the shadows of fear and doubt. "I am back. Do not worry," he said. "Tell the others." And then he vanished once again, leaving Peter alone in the silent night, a burning message of hope reignited in his heart. The tale of the resurrected Messiah had just begun.

Thank you Dr. Tabor. The whole passage of Isaiah 53 doesnt fit to Jesus in Nt at all. The servant only bears the sins of "many" (Isaiah 53 12). Jesus bore the sins of every human being and only "many" will get saved if they accept him. The servant makes intercession for the sinners (isaiah 53 12), that contradicts Hebrew 9 22 which says that only blood atones sins. The servant moreover justifies by his knowledge (isaiah 53 11). Jesus justifies by his "blood" according to at least 4 verses explicitly. The servant also only bears the sins of "his (my) people"=Israel (Isaiah 53 8), Jesus bore the sins of the whole world. This and many more points completely refute the passage being about Jesus.

When you make the spiritual connection, by understanding the prophecies, the light come on and yhwh God becomes more than real. You find out your family in heaven is been watching over you in spirit. If "Jesus" was actually named "Yeshua", the anglicized "Joshua", then how might that have played into his messianic visions? It all dovetails too conveniently IMHO. Personally I think we're talking about First Temple Theology shoehorned into the biography of a better known First Century C.E. revolutionary like Judas the Galilean, Theudas, Simon of Perea, or most probably, "The Egyptian", who very well might've been "Paul". There's also the possibility that we are talking about a highly-edited biography of Julius Caesar; a piece of propaganda designed to usurp the messianic movement in Judea ✌️

11:28 Where does this throat cut open come from that would make this passage seem to be something Jesus would interpret as a reference to John the Baptizer? Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed and he was afflicted yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb so he openeth not his mouth. Word for word from masoretic doesn't have anything about a slit throat. The words "like" and "as" can mean what follows is a simile or metaphor, not literally the same type of death the lamb is subjected to.

So Elohim separated the light from the darkness. 5 Elohim named the light day, and the darkness he named night. There was evening, then morning-the first day.

Party 1 = Isaiah Party 2 = My People (Isaiah’s people = Israel) Party 3 = Is stricken for the transgressions of Isaiah’s people Jesus now provides atonement by interceding for transgressors (Isaiah 53:12 -> Hebrews 7:25).

There were also those Rabbis who identified the servant with Israel like Midrash Rabbah-Genesis XX:10 or Berachot 5a and more. Moreover those who said its the Messiah, didnt believe his death would atone sins like Jesus in the NT. E.g. the *Targum Jonathan below* which says Israel suffered and the Messiah will make intercession for the sinners *of Israel.* 53:2. a holy generation *in the land* that was in need of him 53:4. *Then for our sins he will pray,* and *our iniquities will for his sake be forgiven* , *although we were accounted stricken, smitten from before the Lord, and afflicted.* According to Hebrews 9 22 intercession is not enough
@germanboy14 Жыл бұрын
And levitkus 17 11 doesn't mean that ONLY blood can forgive sins. It says its forbidden to eat blood because it atones sins, not that its the only way for atonement. There are many ways for atonement without blood. The author of Hebrew 9 22 got it wrong. Moreover the servant of Isaiah 53 justifes by his knowledge, Jesus by his blood. The servant makes intercession, he doesn't atone with his blood. many points can be shown that isaiah 53 doesn't fit to Jesus in the NT. Bearing the sins of others also does Jeremia in Jeremiah 4 4. That only means that he suffers as a sign for Israel to repent when they see him suffering.

Jesus was the expected prophet like Moses. He brought another testament to his coming. If the Biible were to be read like a history book, we wouldn't have a talking donkey in it. The sin of the first Adam is prophetic of the sacrifice, when he wields the fiery sword guarding the way to the Tree of Life on the day of vengeance, stored up in his storehouse, AS judgment. Is God unjust, humanly speaking, to inflict his wrath? Of course not! For how else is God to judge the world? (Rom 3:5-6 NABO) Then comes death, judgment, and the return, so too Christ, within the same generation, with the abomination of desolation set up in him, as the Temple without one stone left standing upon another to fulfill the resurrection. Did Jesus think of himself as a worm? What chastisement is suffering and death at the hands of men? What infirmity did Jesus suffer from that he was spurned and avoided? Did he think he would be better off dead? This is his Father David's kingdom. By his sacrifice he justifies David when he speaks, and vindicates him when he condemns. Jesus comes to do the will of his Father. Jesus descended from beyond the heavens and, when the end comes, he ascends beyond the heavens themselves. He is a third party mediator to this world and these heavens, between you and your Father. Now there is no mediator when only one party is involved, and God is one. (Gal 3:20 NABO) For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him (on) the last day. (Joh 6:40 NABO) the Lord God will give him the throne of David his Father (Luk 1:32 NABO) Blessed is the kingdom of our Father David that is to come! (Mar 11:10 NABO) then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to his God and Father (1Co 15:24 NABO) I am the root and offspring of David, the bright Morning Star. (Rev 22:16 NABO) Nor does the Father judge anyone (Joh 5:22 NABO) The Father and I are one." (Joh 10:30 NABO) so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me (Joh 17:21 NABO) The Son himself will (also) be subjected to the “One” who subjected everything to him, so that God may be all in all. (1Co 15:28 NABO) No one has ever seen God. Yet, if we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us. (1Jo 4:12 NABO) God is Spirit (Joh 4:24 NABO) No one has ever seen God. The only Son, who is at (your) Father's side, has revealed him. (Joh 1:18 NABO) there are, to be sure, many "gods" and many "lords", yet for us there is one God, the Father, (1Co 8:5-6 NABO) David, the bright Morning Star." (Rev 22:16 NABO) You belong to your Father the devil (Joh 8:44 NABO) How have you fallen from the heavens, O Morning Star, son of the dawn! (Isa 14:12 NABO) On your belly shall you crawl, and dirt shall you eat all the days of your life. (Gen 3:14 NABO) "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst. (Joh 6:35 NABO) Is not my house firm before God? He has made an eternal covenant with me, set forth in detail and secured. Will he not bring to fruition all my salvation and my every desire? (2Sa 23:5 NABO) the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail (Mat 16:18 NABO) David, their king, whom I will raise up for them. (Jer 30:9 NABO) From David's throne, and over his kingdom, which he confirms and sustains By judgment and justice, both now and forever. (Isa 9:6 NABO) David is the Cornerstone of Christ's work of salvation. In his name this man stands before you healed. He is 'the stone rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.' (Act 4:10-11 NABO) Jesus destroys all power, rule, and authority, 1Cor 15:25. (2Co 12:9 NABO) and when he was made perfect, he became the eternal source of salvation for all (Heb 5:9 NABO) But I am a worm, hardly human, scorned by everyone, despised by the people. (Psa 22:7 NABO) God sent a worm which attacked the plant, so that it withered. And when the sun arose, God sent a burning east wind; and the sun beat upon Jonah's head till he became faint. Then he asked for death, saying, "I would be better off dead than alive." (Jon 4:7-8 NABO) (Thus begins the way of the lord in the desert) He grew up like a sapling before him, like a shoot from the parched earth… He was spurned and avoided by men, a man of suffering, accustomed to infirmity (Isa 53:2-3 NABO) (apparently, the worm attacked the shoot also)

@@kennethbrownsher1264 What did Joshua prophecy? I could easily stick with the Torah. Does that include Isaiah and the prophets? Isaiah 4 says the column of smoke and pillar of fire will be created after a fiery judgment. I don't believe in talking donkeys or manna food raining from the sky. The flood story of Noah comes from the Epic of Gilgamesh. It appears the Exodus of Moses comes from the Exodus of the Hyksos, whose artifacts have been found at Jericho. They are strories, not history. The stories are used to present the plan of God, and as a witness to him. There were a million plus people wandering around in the desert, following a column of smoke and pillar of fire, for forty years, and no one thought to record it? No one came accross them in their travels? Light and vegetation were created before the sun and moon? You need to rethink how you read the Torah. I don't believe there was a physical crucifixion. It makes as much sense as the walls of Jericho falling when people shouted. -------------------------------------- Six marches over six days - The first six seals Seventh day, seven marches - Seventh seal with seven trumpets Seven priests given seven horns - Seven trumpets Silent before the shout - Silence in heaven On the seventh march the horns sound, they shout, and Jericho is given to them - At the seventh trumpet, there were loud voices in heaven saying the kingdom of the world belongs to the Lord. Walls of Jericho - Scroll with seven seals Now if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterwards of another day. (Heb 4:8 NABO) ------------------------------------------------ Esau, the firstborn, lives by the sword (sacrifice) and serves his brother, Jacob, who was born ‘striking’ at his heel. Isaac blessed Esau saying: Ah, far from the fertile earth shall be your dwelling; far from the dew of the heavens above! (Gen 27:39 NABO) My kingdom does not belong to this world. (Joh 18:36 NABO) Where I am going you cannot come. (Joh 8:21 NABO) one who ascended far above all the heavens themselves (Eph 4:10 NABO) "By your sword (sacrifice) you shall live, and your brother you shall serve; But when you become restive (weak; faint; infirm; a worm; man of suffering; restless; wanderer in the desert; way of the Lord in the desert), you shall throw off his yoke from your neck." (Gen 27:40 NABO) Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your selves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light. (Mat 11:29-30 NABO)

My you really are brainwashed. LEARN TO READ HEBREW. IN MALACHI HE SAYS OBSERVE THE LAWS OF MOSES, BEFORE THE COMING OF GOD. THROUGHOUT THE HEBREW SCRIPTURES, REPENTANCE IS SIMPLE, TURN FROM YOUR EVIL WAYS. JESUS CANNOT EVEN BE A SACRIFICE BECAUSE HE IS BLEMISHED. READ LEVITICUS. IN ZECHARIAH, THE ONE PIERCED IN THE HOUSE OF HIS FRIENDS, IS A FALSE PROPHET.

We have all heard this story many times. In History there have been many like this........Certainly sounds to me like Jesus was Crazy. Why do humans feel the need to appease the Universe with Sacrifice? The human ''ego'' in a strange way I think enjoys these parts they act out.......But in the final outcome --All Is One......Just a play on the stage until the curtain closes on us all and everything return to that Un-Nameable Oneness....
