Thank you so much Geoff I am 64 and I’ve been sewing since I was eight I have four bananas 930 the 1130 the 1200 DA overlock Serger and the blind hemstitch machine. Every now and then a refresher is always a good thing. One time when caring for an ill parent I was away from my machine for so long I could not figure out how to wind a bobbin I thought I would go on insane. Amazing I was just doing something small wrong I could not seem to get it together and when I finally did I had a great laugh this happens to all of us but I would never give up sewing to the day I die it’s a wonderful skill and a great sense of accomplishment to finish a garment. But it requires being diligent about your machine they’re like little engines little cars they need the TLC to keep them going. I would never give up my 1130 I hope I never have to I wants took it to an unauthorized bringing a deal or not thinking about this because it was during Covid they are great at doing vacuums I learned a lot and spent much more money going back to my authorized dealer who had moved to the next town was worth every penny and every trip and had a learning lesson to all you out there if they do not or are not authorized to service bringing us do not go for the cheaper route in the end it will cost you much more things had to be corrected now I can sew wonderful garments again! Here is a hint I live in Los Angeles area and I had taken my vacuum cleaner many times to this business they are wonderful with that here is the clue if vacuum is the first word and sewing machines comes after that you need to think twice. And especially if you’re on a Bernina you spent a lot of money for a quality machine you must take it to an authorized dealer!!!!! It cost me an extra $300 to undo with the vacuum cleaner guy did it just was not within his field of expertise he tried so I have to just play myself and learn that lesson throw you out there again take my advice authorize Bernina dealers ONLY!!!!! These are the Ferraris and Maseratis of sewing machines they require special knowledge!!!!! Valencia

There are different oils because some machine require a thicker oil than the newer 7 5 or new 4 series Berninas. The red cap oil is thinner and performs better in the tight tolerances of the new models and it is what is recommended by the factory. Thinner oil does require oiling more frequently.

Here is the secret to the manufacture date on older Bernina sewing machines. Look at the serial number add six to the first digit only and that's the last two digits of the year it was made. Example 11521111 would be made in 1971 1+6=7 the second digit is the second number of the year with nothing added to it.

There are two spring loaded screws on the top push in and turn 1/4 the top lifts off, clean with a Q-tip old oil blow out with air compressor if handy re-oil everything that moves with sewing machine oil not 3 in 1 or gun oil. The bottom arm plate comes off too do the same. I have a youtube on tensions check that out

The Bernina 200 has a rotary bobbin. Use my red cap oil to oil on the outside edge of the hook. Clean With the brush and Q tips

Don’t really know what help you need. Top loading machines need very little oil or maintenance by there design. They need to be looked at every 3 to 4 years by a tech.

Remove the bobbin case and use the small white brush. Then use a Qtip and then re-oil making sure you reach the right place. Nothing else comes out on this model unless you are a trained tech.

Hi Jan, my oil is white oil out of the keg so to speak, it will turn darker in time but it takes 20 or 30 years to go bad. I code the cap to Yellow for machine parts and Red cap for Bernina 9 hook uses.

That model does not have an adjustment for the presser foot pressure, maybe a tech can adjust it.

I would recommend you have that done by a qualified tech it looks easy by to line it back up has a trick. You could get it back on out of alinement and bind the machine.

Hi Nona, You will need a Red Cap oil for the 780 and yellow cap oil for the rest. I have the lube for the featherweight. The thread goes around the hook. You oil the hook. Oil will end up on the thread. Or?

The older mechanical machines of any brand like the yellow cap oil and it can be used on any moving metal part. Even if oil turns dark in the bottle it can be used if it still flows quickly, if it acts thick do not use it on a sewing machine, maybe on a squeaky door hinge is OK.

This is common for this model. You will need to take it to a “qualified” tech. Ask them if they are familiar with removing the carriage in a 1000 series machine. Could be a $200 plus charge.

It seems that this video is knowledge based and is not intended for one who is not familiar with how to oil a sewing machine. It wasn't clear to me where to put the oil as the area of interest was too far from the camera and when a photo was shown the image was lying on the table and so not perpendicular to the line of sight.
