Even those commonly referred to as racists are not really racist. Not in as much as they hate any particular racial group or colour anyway. Is it unnatural that one race should be wary and cautious to mix with people of a different race? Is such a notion absolutely abhorrent or as natural and instinctive as sexual desire? If you moved to a new location and knew absolutely nothing about the area but had to choose between two identical roads, one full of people of your race or one occupied totally by people of a different race, which one would you choose? If you stopped to ponder the choice at all, let alone choose the road of your race, does that make you a racist? Given a choice, would you prefer to live amongst people of your race and if so, how far does that preference project into wider societal issues? When does 'preference' become 'prejudice'? This pre-dates the era of modern genetics. Racism could be seen as an aggressive extension of ethnocentrism. Ethnocentrism is simply the natural preference for one's own kind. It doesn't imply any hostility to others. However, if is taken to a level where there is an actively hostile or aggressive attitude to outsiders then it becomes racism. Either way, it's entirely natural. If you disagree with that you're picking a fight with natural selection which you will lose.

I agree that there is nothing wrong in assuming that there might be differences based on ethnicity - just as there might be genetic differences based on gender. And yet, these differences have meaning only when discussing statistics or average. Boys, for instance, may be - on the average -better in mathematical or spacial thinking than girls. That would mean that there's no point in trying to push for 50% women in engineering studies. On the other hand this would be totally meaningless regarding individuals: Obviously there are girls that are better than boys in math. So, at the end of the day - obvioudly DEI is wrong, why obsses about differences?

The language is a simple fix. Even if they speak differently at home they are rather obliged to know the local language, especially if they are 2nd generation onward. Ideology is tempered by the need to not run afoul of laws and work requirements. Policy changes can apply the necessary fixes if the laws are properly enforced.
