How To Make Antivenom - And Why The World Is Running Short

"Venomous snakebites kill at least 100,000 people per year. The only antidote antivenom takes time, skill and abundant resources to make. PM walks you through how its done (but dont try this at home.)"
Venomous vs Poisonous: What Is the Difference Between Venom, Poison, and Toxins?
futurism.com/wh...
"The quick and dirty way to separate venomous creatures from poisonous ones is by thinking about bites: If you bite it and die, it is poisonous; if it bites you and you die, it is venomous. But to break things down a bit more: To deliver their chemicals, venomous creatures bite you-they actively inject their deadly mixture into other organisms (via fangs, spines, stingers, or similar methods of delivery). For example, consider Oxyuranus microlepidotus (the inland tipan). This snake is generally believed to have the deadliest venom of any known creature. If this snake bites you, things will go downhill very quickly."
The last supplies of an important snake antivenom just expired - and that's a problem
www.sciencealer...
"At the end of June 2016, the last remaining supplies of an important, safe, and effective antivenom expired. The antidote, known as FAV-Afrique, is what Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has relied on to treat snakebites in sub-Saharan Africa."

There was this one Roman guy (I forgot his name) that was so scared of being poisoned by his rivals, that he took very small amounts of the poison during his whole life, to build up a immune system. When he was captured by the enemy during a war, he tried to commit suicide by taking the poison. Unfortunately for him, he survived as he built a very strong immunity against the poison. (And probably became slave or died a very cruel dead) You should look it up if you're interested, as I can't remember the details :)

According to some doctors in South Africa, the Anti-venom they have comes from horses, and the problem was that the Horse proteins and antibodies in the anti-venom was actually causing worse results and resulting in more deaths, then when they didn't use Anti-venom at all, so they have actually stopped giving anti-venom. Move people were dying from the anti-venom, then from the actual snake bites, so they don't give it anymore.

Not really. Coming from northern Wisconsin. We still have insects like ticks and mosquitoes though which can carry some pretty nasty ailments. Limes Disease and Malaria. There have been cases where a random Rattle snake has made it into the southern border of our state, but then winter comes and they die. Almost makes the brutal winters worth it.
