The US Federal Reserve hold two main assets, Treasury Bonds, a gold, literally stored in the basement of the NY Fed. BUT, the fed will tell you not to own gold.

gold IS correlated with the stock market: it's just inversely correlated. When stocks go up, gold goes down and vica versa. Sure the movements tend not to be as extreme but its still correlation.

Gold is not the best investment. As Warren Buffet was saying: "You can't eat gold." It is though less risky than other investments, but less risky can be real estate if chosen carefully. Diversify the metals and you might be better.

@Saami Zakir: Agree. You can use gold for countercyclical hedging or hedging against inflation, but unlike all other investments, it has no expected growth in value. You pay a lot for risk reduction.

Interestingly gold fell in both the bear stock market that began in 1980 and the shorter stock market drop in 1998 as I just wrote on my website. I see Ray Dalio has been buying gold lately. Thanks for short and informative video.

Buying Gold is stupid, you hedge against stock value loss by buying inverse ETFs or buying put options. Ray Dalio bought 1.5 billion in put options to hedge against his 150 billion in AUM.
