The warning signs were there his prior time in the cage. The blame has to go to the UFC for putting him on a main PPV card. The kid is a Fight Night fighter. No shame in that. He's not a PPV fighter unless we're talking about the early prelims. The larger point is that we've already seen this kid before numerous times in various divisions in various promotions. Ed Ruth. Phil Davis. Ben Askren. Gregor Gillespie. Chael Sonnen. A few others too. NCAA wrestling doesn't really translate to the elite level of MMA. They max out as B-level fighters.

U23 World Champion wasn't college wrestling now. MMA, of course, is very different from an MMA fight, which is why I said Khamzat would win, but I just wanted to put into perspective Bo's accolades

@@MMAChe. U23 stands for under 23, so it is pretty much college wrestling.

Was there ever really a Bo Nickal hype? yeah he's an interesting prospect, and he can improve, but i've never felt any sort of hype

Even the couple of times when Bo's overhand landed flush on Craig's chin it didn't even stun him.

Bo Nickal is a +1300 against Paul Craig. You can't defend a weak win when you are so much of a favorite!!!

Bo probably wanted to see if he could win the fight standing up, without relying on his wrestling. He already knows he can take guys down and submit them in the first round, but he's trying to develop as a fighter and become more well rounded.
@AndreDonDodda-kr9lb3 күн бұрын
To say he shouldn't work his striking in a real fight is crazy. The timing and intensity is not comparable. He just needs more fights and more different looks. Craig isn't a slouch.... he's not a killer. But he's beaten top contenders. He's also been embarrassed by other lesser opponents

Bo is too busy trying to be a fighter, & not being a wrestler. Take some of the best mma-wrestlers -GSP, Khabib, Jon Jones, etc..-all of them would have attempted a takedown against Craig. He needs to spend more time training MMA-Wrestling & he'll be one of the best who's ever done it. Jared Cannonier would be good for his next fight btw

3:35 i get if he was like "I'm gonna strike & keep it on the right for the 1st round [or even the 1st 2] but then I'm gonna take him down & end it" 3 rounds, at MSG, on the maincard, in front of the President-Elect (who said he was mainly there to see you) & the richest man in the world, is NOT! the place to "test your striking"

6:54 Brundage (D2 wrestler) could schuck Bo, mauled or not Bo could definitely create some scrambles & shut-down some takedowns against Khamzat even today

He spammed the same strike so many times that I thought I was about to hit a counter shot on him. Maybe he’s playing 4D chess and wants to trick people into taking fights with him because they think he’s bad.

Nice hands. Good video, you just popped up on my sh*t. You kind of start getting straight to the point, and that's important. Keep up the good work.

In all seriousness I think Bo just has no accuracy. He kind of knows when to throw the punch, he moves okay. I think with more training, one day hes gonna start landing those spam overhands and things are gonna change real quick.

While yes he was looking for a knockout, I don’t think thats why he kept it on the feet. I truly believe he just didn’t feel any resistance from Craig in the striking and took this as an opportunity to develop his game. You can say he should do that in the training room, but I don’t think that can ever truly compare to executing something under the bright lights. The confidence you get from successfully doing something in a live environment can’t be replicated. And while yes, the overhand was the most evident tactic, I actually think theres a lot of good things being overlooked in this performance. His confidence and competency throwing kicks is night and day from his first fight. He went from falling on his ass from throwing a head kick to successfully implementing a solid leg kick heavy approach with some nice body kicks sprinkled in. His distance management and foot work looked good. He showed some nice head movement moving in and out of the pocket at times. He stayed defensively responsible. Many think he should have pressed for the KO when he had Craig rocked, and while yes that would have been nice, I think he showed some nice IQ by showing restraint and not rushing in and risking giving Craig a chance to catch him. Would it have been nice to see Bo throw with more volume, intensity, and variety? Yes. But I think we have to look at Bo and think about where he started, given that, I think we saw a lot of improvement. I also think we have to take into account the opponent he was facing, going against a taller longer guy who is staying on his bike and not engaging is a challenging opponent to close the gap on. For his experience level, if you’re going to keep it standing, I honestly think he had the right idea. I also think people are kind of deluding themselves about how far ahead Khamzat is in the striking. I think if he went against Paul Craig with a pure striking approach like Bo, I think he would get the KO from being a much more aggressive fighter, but I also think he would have taken on much more damage than Bo did as he is less calculated and defensively responsible. You’re right this was a bad PR moment for Bo, but just from a perspective of what he showed he can do as a fighter, I was happy with this performance from him

I thought Bo made some nice striking adjustments since he couldn’t get Craig’s hands to drop from a takedown threat he ripped the body a couple times before coming back over top

I think it says something about his fight IQ that he really thought going for a knockout while seemingly knowing only one strike is a good idea. Not to mention continuing to try it even after it has not worked multiple times already. Maybe he was just overconfident, believing he could just mess around and simply fall back to wrestling if shit hit the fan. Whatever it was, it's a really bad look for him. I'm sure he'll get much better though, this is just the beginning of his career.
