The injectors do seize in the cylinder head. There is a VERY thin part of the injector that snapped when attempted to be extracted from the engine even with the correct puller. The good news is I have found a way to extract them even if they snap (using some of our in-house fabrication). Thus reducing the additional 15+ Hrs needed to extract by removing the cylinder head. We have a PAIR of headgaskets to do on a V6 F type this month, we quoted £4000+ vat including 6 new injectors and timing chain set. Hope this helps and is of interest for those who may find themselves in this situation one day. Dudley - Wraptor

My understanding is the injectors seizing in the cylinder heads is due to corrosion from water ingress. This is most common on the V6 2WD cars with the open 'mesh grille' vents on the bonnet. They effectively let water pool around the injectors causing corrosion. I have the blade type vents on mine which I understand make this slightly less of an issue. AWD cars have the vents in a different place so it is not a problem.

Sorry to hear about your continued woes! On the aftermarket warranty point you raised I bought my P300 in Santorini Black a couple of months ago from an independent dealer. I managed to get a 3 year aftermarket warranty for around £700 from Warranty solutions group. Haven't had to use it yet but it seems a good deal vs the JLR extended warranty. I've already dealt with Jaguar Oxford in my ownership after my car was spamming me with low battery warnings even though I'd tested the battery and everything was perfectly fine. Rang them up to ask what could be going on and they offered me a free battery check and BMS reset which fixed the issue. In my dealings with them I thought they were really good and felt they went extra mile to help me even though I wasn't paying them a penny!
@tootalltodrive2 ай бұрын
Yeah aftermarket warranties do seem to have their benefits not only being less in cost but also still covering the problems. Oxford themselves have been great and the initial problems didn’t happen with Oxford so no blame their, although the recent issues aren’t great… 😂

I would only use E5 fuel in these engines. According to my Jaguar specialist they have seen far fewer direct injector failures on cars that are run on super unleaded than cars that are run on E10. Secondly, at every service a good idea is to add a fuel additive such as Tunap 974 Injector Direct Protection and also a fuel injector cleaner such as 979 Tunap Injector Cleaner to help prevent sticking injectors.

@johnsamson-snell95582 ай бұрын
Right, I’ve had 3 F-Types so far, all 3 ltr V6’s. I think they are a fabulous car you one has to understand what can or will go wrong with them over time. The injector stuck in issue is down to a design fault whereby water enters the engine bay via the open vents in the top of the bonnet, puddles around the injector causing them to rust in place. Now it is possible to remove these using lots of penetrating fluid and not forcing it. A heavy handed spanner monkey will wring the injector off but that shouldn’t be your problem if it’s done in a main dealer as they know about this design fault. The other 2 things to be aware of is the infamous Y coolant pipe under the supercharger that is made of plastic and will fail. That involves removing the supercharger itself which sits on top of the engine. Now these are made of aluminium and often “weld” themselves to the engine but good specialists will know how to remove them carefully. Whilst the supercharger is off change the coupling and the water pump. It makes sense because these will need doing some time. Finally service the gearbox and rear differential. If you don’t that will lead to expensive issues. BUT…. Talk to your finance company. The law states that if you have financed the care with a loan/finance of more than 50% then you can return it to the seller as being not fit for purpose. Don’t talk to Jaguar but do talk to the finance company. Given your story they will almost certainly side with you, arrange to have the car collected then disposed of (almost certainly at auction) they will reimburse you and sent the bill for the losses to the seller. This sounds brutal but it’s the only good reason I can see for buying a car on finance. Let me know how you get on please. John
@tootalltodrive2 ай бұрын
Interesting about the finance bit especially, might give them a call. Problems is you can’t beat an F-Type for the money these days - even the new R575 is approx. £60,000 and you can’t get the same quality, comfort and performance from anything else in my view. So I would probably end up in a Jag again 😂

Stuck injectors is a well documented issue. I got a 2018 V6 and would not own one without having a decent diagnostic equipment, a 3rd party warranty and becoming member of the UK F-type forum. If you got an injector error code, first thing you need to do is to run a bottle BG44K injector cleaner added to Shell VPower (the only fuel people should use with the F-type). If that doesn't take care of the issue, I'd seek help from a specialist with the injector pull toolkit which can be seen in several videos here. In your situation however, I'd have all 6 injectors replaced because it just makes sense.

@@tootalltodrive going by what you described in your video they're ill-equipped and will submit the engine to an open heart surgery as a result. Injectors can be sorted for a fraction of what you've been quoted, I know a guy in Derby who fixed mine (at mates rates) for £1600. I sourced the Injectors myself due to Jaguar having their own labelled version of Bosch injectors and selling them at £300 per unit. I just went for the Bosch ones at about £80 each (all in it cost me about £2100). Happy to chat about this if you're interested.

The thing that interested me here is your car has the same bonnet vents as mine, and in a previous video you mentioned after a lot of rain there was a squeaking noise from engine. If you see my video about this issue the result was no more squeaking so I'd say the noise was related perhaps even the injector.
@tootalltodrive2 ай бұрын
Not sure it was necessarily rain but yeah could be related..

Injectors do get stuck on some cars. There is usually a tool to extract them. There maybe mobile mechanics which can drill them out which saves alot of labour if the engine has to come out. If the head has to come off, then yes obviously you would fit a new headgasket. No one in their right mind would reuse an old one. It's a ~£25 part. They will need new headbolts too. I don't think you will have all new parts, just a new headgasket, coolant, oil etc.

Hi Will, sorry to hear of the continued woe. Firstly, faults can happen at any time, if the injector failed post service and other work undertaken then it is what it is. Jaguar stating that the injectors can snap upon removal and it's down to the design, is not necessarily 'their' fault but one which could be construed as your choice of buying such a car with inherent design flaws? A bit open for discussion I agree but I am looking on as a 3rd party. In all brutal honesty also, I would not have offered the sale of the car at this juncture you have possibly left yourself wide open for more abuse as they appear to have the upper hand and may add to the costs to consolidate their position. Not saying they would but think they will stick with their costs. As for the warranted side of things, a known issue for such happenings you would think be covered under warranty, but check the small print as known faults are not covered simply because for the amount of work involved they would not make any money out of warranted claims....catch my drift? My feelings are that for the length of time they have had the car (they have given you a courtesy car, there is a cost implication of this too which they will factor in) have they done everything under the contract? if so they may stick to their guns but may sway a little on final cost but I feel as if you will be paying the bulk of it. Wishing you all the best for the outcome and it is so disheartening to hear for such a great car and person too! Cheers, Chris.
@tootalltodrive2 ай бұрын

At the end of the day the conjecture lies in the wording of the warranty contract. As consumers we would expect an engine malfunction to be covered. Some posters have mentioned the word "inherent" in their comments, seems to me that is an admittance of design fault. Fellow old timers will remember Ford's OHC units in their Capris. This being the case it should be covered in the warranty, this is why we buy a warranty! A couple of points though. JLR do appear to have a shoddy reputation for customer satisfaction, I highlight your case (which is just ridiculous) and the customer service at the Derby showrooms when floods massacred a complete fleet of cars to which they just washed their hands of. Since retiring I have wrestled with buying a new F-Type but to be honest, I just don't trust the brand. Cars like these can be temperamental so I would (naively) want the dealer on my side and not having to potentially fork out thousands for repairs. After all, these cars don't see that much road use. So, good luck with the bills the dealer are wafting under your nose, I do feel however that some kind of legal advice would be beneficial...
