Though Cheap Trick did not end up on the final Double Fantasy album, Lennon had the session musicians listen to Cheap Trick's (Nielsen and Carlos) version of "I'm Losing You" in order to mimic the sound. You can hear the version with Cheap Trick and Lennon on the John Lennon Anthology album.

My understanding is that the original studio musicians brought in to play on Double Fantasy were unaware that they were even working on a John Lennon album. He wasn't at any of the tracking sessions which were completely being run by Jack Douglas.

The title is misleading. They did not end up on the album. Their version wasn’t used. Rick even says it was session musicians but Howard clearly wasn’t listening or didn’t understand
