Yes he has single handily destroyed pro chess. Giving away the world title, and now making this world title a joke. How can anyone care about the world titles when the players don’t care. I couldn’t imagine Mahomes agreeing to split a title with another team. He’s the best ever and wins and wins and next Super Bowl he will still put his hole body on the line to win. Magnus can’t even more a couple more blitz games. How can anyone give a crap about these events anymore
@ericlemmon934228 күн бұрын
@@andrewbradley3305 First of all, Mahomes is definitely not the best ever, just look at some simple stats. Second, the super bowl is a horrible comparison as there have only been 2 overtime Super Bowls both within the last 10 years and football as a whole doesn't have to deal with ties nearly as often as chess which get them much more often. For context, tied chess matches can last for hours, days, weeks, and sometimes even months (Kasparov v. Karpov Sep. 1984 - Feb. 1985). Chess is also a much more mentally draining game and both players were obviously exhausted having both played close matches before this one. The problem happened because FIDE got rid of the Armageddon tiebreaker in favor of just endless matches until someone wins. With the old tiebreaker, this wouldn't have happened

While I get that the old tie break method had its problems, endless tiebreak matches definitely wasn't the way to fix it imo. Both players agreed to the draw so it makes sense that they both likely expected it to continue for a long time and just didn't want to deal with that on new years eve (which side note, why is the tournament on a holiday? @@andrewbradley3305 Football is a really bad comparison when you look at how long chess tiebreakers can be compared to football overtimes. Not to mention football is a physical sport while chess is a mental game. Both players looked visibly tired from playing (they played 2 other people beforehand on the same day) and given that they both agreed to the draw it is safe to assume that they both expected the game to drag on for a long time. This is why I said that the old tiebreaker shouldn't have been replaced the way they did it as it allows for matches to go on and on with draws which is bad for the players, the organizers, the sponsors, and the viewers.

And it's in the style of the “new age”, in which viewers' attention spans can be accommodated in TikTok format anyway. In this respect, it's neither good nor bad - we'll see what's made of it. As far as Carlsen is concerned, however, I hope he comes to his senses as soon as possible: you always meet several times in life, even Carlsen and FIDE. @@yellowphoenix9803 he would have been living out of a suitcase during those years cheating or not, as he wasn't yet good enough to get invited to major closed tournaments and the like. it's true it's been a significant amount of time, but i don't think any amount of time is enough if the cheater doesn't really accept that what they did was wrong (vs just regretting getting caught). it may be that he does, but i am not seeing it in the way he has talked or behaved since

@Someone-hi1nt28 күн бұрын
just curious, where did he mention the olympics?
@CuentaRecuperacion-mj5wm28 күн бұрын
Take the time to write something that makes sense. Don't write nonsense to please fools. - Hans doesn't talk about the Olympics. - Chess is not Olympic jumping and its rules are not the same. In that discipline, the rules contemplated the possibility of a tie. - Just because something happened before doesn't mean it's the most appropriate. - In any case, you're referring to an exception, trying to take that precedent to validate it in the future, thereby demonstrating the seriousness of the incident between Magnus and Nepo and the probability that others will do it in the future with pathetic excuses like yours.

While I feel rather uneasy about this turn of events, joint first place is something that has been implemented in many other sports, just not in chess. Either FIDE comes up with better tie breaks (ie. Throw down with Armageddon), or have a better pairing system.

My husband races at Laguna Seca and thinks this is hilarious. He wants to know how long before Baseball, Football, Soccer and other sports requiring both physical and mental stamina, start to implement what will certainly be crowned as the "Magnus-FIDE Rule of Competition," (A.K.A. "I'm a star, so pay attention to me"). As far as I'm concerned, the real reason FIDE wanted to maintain the dress code was to maintain the appearance of being a class act.

because it's nothing FIDE can do if Magnus and Ian decided they want to draw every game. Imagine if that happen, let's say they play until 100 games, eventually FIDE itself will be the one who suggesting to sharing the 1st place. And I think that's okay, even in the Olympics Tamberi and Barshim shared 1st place in high jump competition. If you have to blame someone, it's FIDE, because they want that system instead of Armageddon and there's nothing they can do if Magnus and Ian agreed to draw every game.
