Explanation ⬇️
.
1. Excess calories are stored as fat
2. Fat cells have a huge capacity, but it is not unlimited
3. When fat storage threshold is reached, fat starts spilling over
4. and gets deposited in other areas where it is not supposed to
5. Like muscle and liver - making them insulin-resistant
6. Both muscle and liver are very important for regulating blood sugar
7. When they malfunction, blood sugar starts becoming chronically high
8. This is one of the pathways to diabetes
9. The process shown in this reel usually takes many years.
⭐️ This is good because this means diabetes is a slow process, giving you a LOT OF time and opportunity to make corrective lifestyle changes. Prevention is better than cure. And diabetes can be successfully prevented with lifestyle changes.
PS: Some creative liberties have been taken. Insulin does not directly transport fat to muscle or liver. It does not tell the brain about the problems either. I just used that for ease of communication and to keep things interesting and simple.
PPS: Overeating is not just a function of willpower or individual responsibility. Many factors are at play, such as hormones, environment, certain medications, etc. That’s why we should seek medical or therapeutic help when needed if we find ourselves repeatedly consuming more than we need.
