It is so utterly unbelievable that someone like Ripley would go into hypersleep without scouring every inch of the Sulaco for aliens and eggs. Not to mention the ship's computer is capable, as you'd expect, of detecting alien life aboard. The writers are telling me she didn't run a single scan?

Yeah, in the opening scene of Alien 3, it appears to be stuck to the wall in a brightly lit maintenance corridor. It looks like it would have been an easy find. A flamethrower shot later, problem is solved. No matter what crazy way it was placed there, it is still a stretch that it wouldn't have been found. Fortunately, it was all just one of Ripley's bad dreams. 🤣
@radrno73 жыл бұрын
I mean, supposing Ripley found out it was there before going into cryo, nothing would work in getting rid of it. Torch it, the ship gets set on fire and the pod gets ejected the same way. Blast it, it melts the hull and they very likely die. Eject it, she'd have to approach to cut the eggs off the ground and risk get infected. The truth is that as soon as the ship took off the ground, they were all doomed from the start. I don't blame Bishop 'cuz he was probably in too much of a hurry and we have seen that xenomorphs can still attack synthetics.

@@radrno7 It wouldn't melt through the hull that much, that's a huge ship. The Nostromo had acid melt through a few floor decks but that was it, the ship was fine, and everybody didn't die (at least until the alien killed them off). The flamethrower scenario..... eh, Ripley could've overridden the computer to where it wouldn't eject the pod and she could've put the fire out very quickly.

Bishop spent a load of time studying a facehugger (on behalf of the Company) whilst on LV-426. If - by that point in time - science has fully decoded the human genome and all castes of the Xenomorph species share the same DNA traits, it could’ve applied such knowledge (stored in his cybernetic brain) to gain a full understanding of the species. The angle the egg was affixed to a surface at could possibly be a combination of: 1) Bishop having limited time to conceal the egg; and 2) Bishop needing to find the optimum spot for it to trigger the release of the facehugger when all crew were later in cryo-stasis. Absolutely Bishop. Conspicuously not at the platform, having been ordered to stay close for extraction. Hicks conspicuously unconscious (to the close of the film), with him having backed Ripley with the order to Bishop. How long was Ripley in the nest extracting Newt (with scenes having been cut)? How long did it take for them to return to the Sulaco following the extraction before the site went thermonuclear? Could have even returned to the Sulaco before he rendezvoused with Hicks and Ripley (before the retrieval mission). Might not be what James Cameron intended, might not be what David Giler and Walter Hill intended but there is enough ambiguity in both films to make this the most plausible explanation of what happened. The crew got fucked by the robot in Alien. The crew got fucked by the robot (again) in Aliens - only the Company made the “Bishop” model more amiable than the “Ash” model.

@@robt4390 - Go back and rewatch the scene where Bishop states Asimov's first two Laws of Robotics, during the meal before they leave the Sulaco for the first time. "I am unable to harm, or by omission allow harm, to a human being." It wasn't Bishop. It took 50 MINUTES for the dropship to reach the Sulaco, based on Bishop saying it took that long for the 2nd dropship's flight from the Sulaco to LC-426. Plenty of time for the queen to lay another couple of eggs (yes, my opinion is that she laid at least two on the way up), and secure them somewhere. LV-426 didn't have an atmosphere in Alien 1; therefore the eggs do not "die" without what we would consider breathable air. Heck, the very fact that the queen made it onto the Sulaco argues that the xenomorphs themselves can survive vacuum for a least short periods of time. (That's a scary thought - the first film's xenomorph floating around in space until it found a ship to latch onto, if it hadn't been fried when Ripley caught it in the engine blast.)

I've always happily accepted my own personal theory. When the acid dropped in front of Bishop at the end of Aliens, that wasn't blood, that was embryonic fluid from her ripped egg sack. Due to environmental conditions, the egg grew like a fungal spore on the deck below where it had originally burnt through. Kind of ties in to Alien 1979's deleted scene whereby the eggs could be grown from hosts in a decomposing fungal-like manner. It works well enough for me. They're aliens. One simple camera pan over that floor-hole during the opening montage would have cemented it for me as being a perfectly reasonable explanation.

Aliens 3 and 4 aren't "hypersleep nightmares", they're just regular nightmares. In Aliens, there's the scene where Burke is trying to convince Ripley to help him, and he brings up all the nightmares she has, and how confronting all this might help her. In fact, the movie practically starts with Ripley having nightmares of having a chest burster in her. Remember the scene in the hospital with Burke and the cat? Burke was wrong about confronting her fears: she still has those bad dreams, and 3 and 4 are feature length looks at those dreams.

Hawl 9000, I'm glad someone agrees, because the most plausible, realistic way in which to bring Ripley back without getting more and more fantastical in an effort to build of 3 and 4 is to make those movies looks into Ripley's nightmares. And the funny thing about it is that if you do a bit of research on dream symbology; being stuck on a prison planet; with no weapons with no way to escape; with a bunch of men who'd as soon kill you as rape; and the inability to convince anyone of what's coming their way; these are all variation on dream symbology. * Being incarcerated or trapped can signify the person feels trapped or unable to move beyond a certain point. * The inability to escape suggests a feeling of helplessness. * Seeing killers in a dream suggests losing of oneself. * Being ignored in a dream suggests there's something you're avoiding in real life. Quite literally, based on what's known of the character Ellen Ripley, real psychology can explain away both Alien3 and Alien: Resurrection as dreams, and that's something I very much wished would happen, because regardless of how entertaining those two movies might have been, neither one does the Alien story any justice.
@Goose.Films.8 жыл бұрын
also the 'bishop betrayal' scenario could easily be Ripley's subconscious recalling past events (ash in alien) as she makes it clear she has a distrust of androids, and the fact that hicks and newt die could be her subconscious again mirroring past events, as previously anyone close to her has died
@Goose.Films.8 жыл бұрын
that and the whole alien queen impregnation scenario seems to be an updated version of her previous nightmares seen in aliens, and the scene in alien resurrection where Ripley finds the failed cloning experiments is very similar to the cuccoon scene in alien, suggesting Ripley's subconscious is again mirroring previous experiences with other similar possible scenarios

It is made clear that the derelict has thousands of eggs and the blast is only good for about 30 miles according to the film. They make it clear in the special edition that the ship is further out than the colony so there is another chance for the company to get the eggs as they are still in the Derelict.

Bishop states that the explosion would be the size of Nebraska so either he is massively exaggerating or it is well beyond 30 miles.

One detail about Bishop, he wasn't programmed by the company, he was programmed by the Colonial Marines Corps. Yes he was created by the company but he was shipped to the Colonial Marines Corps and programmed with the different parameters than the Aperdin 120-A2 (Hash) of the Nostromo who wasn't programmed to protect humans but to obey the company's orders. Furthermore the Bishop models are programmed with a safety feature that shutdown the android if he attacks or by his fault let someone or something hurts a human as he explain it himself in Aliens in the meal scene after he did the knife trick to Hudson. Since Fox already announced a movie featuring Hicks and Ripley i think it's safe to say that Alien 3 and 4 are no longer cannon.

(I thought) Alien 3 was okay. BUT, the only way to keep Alien 3 is as a glorified nightmare, for Ripley to wake up from after she dies in the dream. We can't keep Ripley, Hicks, and especially Newt, any other way, and there is no reasonable way to continue the franchise after Aliens without those characters. Alien: Resurrection is garbage, and should absolutely have nothing to do with any future Alien media.

I couldn't agree more. Alien 3 was supposed to center around Hicks and the Colonial Marines. Newt was going to live with her grandparents. Ripley was a nonfactor. The original script has been online for years. As far as the facehugger goes, wouldn't the Sulaco have sensors on board. In Alien, they had Mother. Aliens was 50 years later, on a military ship no less.... You would think they had the technology to make sure the ship is 'clean.' @milkytoad83888 жыл бұрын
daveruda You honestly expect Alien 5 to even be better than Resurrection? Alien Resurrection had a far more talent director than Alien 5 does. Neil Blomkamp is a fucking hack, and people need to get over Newt and Hicks being killed off. Aliens was great, but it completely did not understand what the original film was. They took a film that's a analogy of rape, childbirth, and sexual trauma and made it into a James Cameron, depthless, actionfest. Had those two characters survived, there would be no horror left in a the franchise. Isolating Ripley after losing everyone she ever meets, impregnating her with a queen Alien while stranded in a male only prison filled with rapists and murderers? It also expanded the universe vastly. Ripley dying in the last film was a great way to end the trilogy. We don't need a talentless hack who has only made one good film, attempt at this franchise again. Especially since the franchise is starting to glimmer hope again after Prometheus. Stop fucking bringing Ripley. There is much more to the universe than Sigourney Weaver. If you disagree with that last statement then you are not an alien fan. Which I don't like to say because it's an asshole statement but it's true. You just don't get Alien at all if you disagree.

@HyraxusPrimus8 жыл бұрын
How...? What's the point of the Company already having the eggs on the ship throughout the entirety of Aliens, if they come in at the end of Alien 3 (led by the founder himself) as if the thing Ripley has is the LAST alien left and must be preserved at any cost, anyway? It obviously wouldn't warrant that much attention from the Company if they already had a ready supply of eggs (at least enough of them that they can apparently just leave 2 randomly about on the Sulaco before the mission even started) Not only that, but then the WY team of commandos somehow know full well what they're dealing with (acid proof and facehugger blocking suits, etc.), as if they do have records of aliens and have some specimens already (as if to suggest that they *could* have had eggs to put on the Sulaco), but they can't possibly know anything if all the aliens were killed on Acheron, and it's, again, the LAST alien they're trying to get (that's *why* they're there, BUT if they're there, then they have no reason to be there in such force, with one of the guys who founded the Company himself). Does that make sense? It's just a classic example of circular logic that we can't get around unless someone goes back and changes Aliens (the film) in some way, to make Alien 3 make sense. Moreover, how does Bishop do anything along the lines of opening some door to let the facehuggers out, or plant the eggs on the Sulaco in some proximity to the stasis pods, if he got torn in half as soon as he stepped off that dropship and is now *without* legs, and put in hypersleep soon after. And if it was a warrior/facehugger who snuck along with the Queen, then it would have no reason to not just attack once Ripley was the only one still awake.

The Queen must have squirreled away several eggs and brought them with her when she stowed away on the drop ship. It is improbable that Ripley destroyed all the eggs in the hive, there must have been a few surviving eggs for her to gather and carry. She also would have had plenty of time to place the eggs prior to her battle with Ripley. I personally love Alien 3, think it has the most emotional impact of any of the series. The fact fan favorites, like Hicks and Newt, were killed off so suddenly is what turns most people off.

I love alien 3 (assembly cut) and I'm not afraid to admit it, even though it is a contrary opinion to many fans of this series. I like that the filmmakers tried to go against the grain, do something different and returned to a feeling of isolation and despair of the original film vs the action packed fun of Aliens (not downing Aliens it is a great movie I just prefer Alien3). It is not a perfect film by any stretch of the imagination, but the atmosphere and darkness fit perfectly into the series for me, and wraps up the trilogy nicely. Also, I don't think I've ever seen a film that looked quite like Alien 3, the colors and grain of the film are great giving off a gothic vibe, that probably has something to do with Jordan Cronenweth's limited involvement in the cinematography. Now Alien Resurrection on the other hand...

I always liked the idea that Bishop secretly collected the facehuggers when Ripley was rescuing Newt. It would have been such a big twist and cemented that Bishop is a company android which completely undermines Ridley’s new found trust in him.
@PumpkinHoard2 жыл бұрын
That..... I hadn't thought of that and it's bloody brilliant. It actually would explain a major plot hole in a damned believable fashion. Makes sense even for an android with the three laws programmed into it. Okay, the android IS programmed to actively preserve human life and thus would act to help Ripley. He will volunteer to go down the pipe to call the dropship. But he also has programming from the corporation whereby his orders from the corporation take precedence over this. Hell, his justification for going down that pipe to call down the dropship makes even more sense in this context. If his main mission that takes precedence over all others is to bring back alien samples, likely without anyone other than Burke knowing he is doing it, then he may be motivated by his programming to complete his mission rather than the three laws causing him to take the risk in place of a human being. I actually love this theory now.

It takes 5 mins to fly from the colony HQ and the processor, then add the time Bishop needed to collect the egg(5-10 mins) it works out seamlessly: Starting at T-26 mins to processor detonation(leaving HQ to processor) 2x5 min flights(HQ➡Processor and back)=10 mins 5-10 mins collecting egg(s?) 1x5 min flight(back to Processor) So: 26-(10+10+5) mins =26-25 =T-1 min to detonation- EXACTLY when Bishop reappeared with the dropship to rescue Riply & Newt!! This theory works near-flawlessly with the plot of both Aliens & Alien 3(where the droid Bishop said it was with us all the way, and suddenly wants Ripley to disconnect him just before he had to reveal some damning info of the company, but debatable as he exposed Burke's plan earlier), even though I really want Bishop to be a good character!

@@jmwoods190 I love the idea he wanted to be disconnected before Ripley could ask him. Or even better, Ripley figured it out and terminated him quickly because she felt stupid for trusting a company android. I wish David Fincher would confirm this!

Bishop conspiracy theories make no sense. He was property of the Sulaco marine corps and had history with them, he wasn't a last minute company plant like Ash. Burke was the company plant with a personal agenda. Considering how WY did things, if they really wanted to get the alien from the mission to LV426, they'd have sent a hazmat team instead of Ripley. They did, once they were really interested in her and her Queen. They didn't care until maybe Burke ruffled some feathers before leaving and that made them question "so why did the old suits have the Nostromo rerouted 57 years ago?" and then they got wind of the Fury 161 crash because of the Sulaco black box transmissions and Andrews' report. IIRC, Jim Cameron had stated the whole Nostromo deal was forgotten by the time Ripley was rescued from space.

In the Alien lore, there's an alien type called "Carriers", who were fearsome, as they used to literally carry facehuggers on their backs, ready to jump on their enemies. I personally think the Queen didn't lay an egg on the Sulaco (as shown previously, she would probably require an ovipositor, then again maybe not) , but rather she carried a facehugger on her back at some point and left it on the Sulaco as a plan B. The Queen was all about the survival of her species. She never underestimated her enemies. It is not unlikely that she proceeded that way, and even gave the facehugger special instructions to remain hidden until the time was right. I personally think this is the most believable theory about what really happened.

Rish Fish I am not big on extended universe either, only thing I hold in higher regard in alien 3 is the dog alien, it's another original design (although Giger was never credited for it, bastard left him out) and it is (contrary to popular belief) the only alien that can actually walk on the walls and ceiling, original aliens were never depicted walking on the walls or ceiling as flies, they were crawling all over the wall in their hive because their biomass served as climbing medium, just like humans climb on climbing walls, and in the operating centre in the last stand scene when they were crawling throught the ventilation, they were so squeezed together that some of them walked head down but that doesn't mean they have sticky feet, yet everybody takes it as fact, never understood why

alien was designed by Giger, directed by Ridley Scott, second movie was directed by james cameron and aliens were again designed by Giger, the rest had nothing to do with the original idea or the original creators, I couldn't care less what aliens do in videogames or comic books, first two movies are what counts (some would stretch it to the third and fourth movie) nothing more

Jan P. Think Alien3 was the last proper Alien movie which respected the lore, i know Prometheus was directed by Scott and designed by Giger, but that movie was a mess and didn't make much sense, maybe Covenent will provide answers. But i think as far as canon goes Alien 1-3 are consistent

I love the notion that it was all a dream. This could be a great story line for a new film which continues Ripely's saga let's say 41 years after the confrontation with the queen. All 3 characters reprise their roles except for Bishop since he was destroyed by the queen and yes they would be much older and would have aged but the story could live on and introduce a reality where the company actually gets the alien face hugger like in resurrection or maybe there was a second group of Marines that went in only to retrieve the alien species at all cost sounds like a fans dream come true but at this point there have been too many hands in the Alien pot to make this even work so for now just wishful thinking.

Unless an actual movie is made revealing that Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection were dreams then they are in fact canon. As to how the egg got on the Sulaco I believe it was an emergency egg (or last egg stored within the Queen's body itself and not in her egg sac) that she laid on the drop ship she was in. I also believe that the egg was still in the drop ship when we saw it in Alien 3, that would make better sense than it being anywhere else because the Queen was only in the drop ship prior to emerging from it.

I think that Queen's laying apparatus is also part in the egg developing process, if not why does she need to be unable to move around? It's seems too over engineered if she can lay eggs the same without it.

@@EricMalette totally agree. Unfortunately as you probably know 99% of everything is literally controlled by the marketing department they're so desperate to rush things out. And at the time that Alien 3 was going to be made Fox was in desperate need of money and hoping the bank on alien franchise as their next best hit for funding other films. But as you know that didn't happen. Another thing was i think that fox studios was going threw another new management for their company president at the time(cant recall accurately at this point). And so David Spencer and Sigourney Weaver we're taking elements of three or four different scripts and placing them all into 1, but having to call Fox Studios all the way across the world just to get permission to continue filming scenes, Etc. And I think that like two or three directors quit before they even started really filming. I believe cause the studio wasnt giving the freedom they needed to get anything done. Just 100% Nightmare. And even though a lot of people didn't like its been said by a lot of the cast and crew that it was even a miracle that they even got the film done. But they actually had to go back about 2 or 3 months after filming finushed and had to redo the ending because they wanted to see the queen chestburster come out. If you haven't had a chance I would highly recommend watching the making of this film. because whether you liked or hated it you get a definite respect for the endurance, creativity and patience of a lot of people

Because for some reason people thought that for the Alien franchise to continue the new movie would need Sigourny Weaver, so the writers had to shoe-horn in a way to get the aliens involved again directly in her story. A writer/production team with balls would have introduced a new set of characters in the Aliens universe. The Ripley/Hicks/Newt storyline was done, concluded.
@w0bbl3r6 жыл бұрын
The egg got there because the queen laid it. We watched aliens when it first came out, and at the end when they are all going into cryo-sleep, we were all saying to each other that there must be an egg somewhere that the queen has laid. Just because the queen lost that tube does not mean she can't lay an egg. The tube was just used for placing the eggs in certain spots so they could be spread out rather than all sitting in a big pile.

Well, there was *TWO* eggs brought aboard by the Queen.....possibility still inside her reproductive organ. While Ripley was getting ready in the "Loader", and while the Queen was looking for Newt, the Queen discharged the eggs and placed them in a nice hiding spot. Later, while in hyper-sleep, both of the "Facehuggers" emerged from the egg sacks and were able to detect the host bodies. One found Ripley and burned through the hyper-sleep pod (setting off the fire alarm) and attached itself to her. The other "Facehugger" was on one of the hyper-sleep pods when all four pods where lowered into the escape pod and jettison into space, and that was the one that was roaming free inside the escape pod when it landed on the planet. That is when the dog was attacked by the "Facehugger" and became another "host".

The simplest explanation is usually the answer: Ripley’s destruction of the nest while escaping LV-246 showed her blowing up the queen’s ovipositor. While this may have destroyed any eggs left inside of it, it does not necessarily mean there wasn’t an egg still in the “chamber” (so to say) waiting to enter said ovipositor. But the sequence of events caused the queen to pinch up and separate herself from the the tube’s remnants in pursuit of her attackers. This next part however is the confusing possibility: When the drop ship arrives back on the Sulaco, the stowaway queen would have had to disembark quickly, go pinch the last egg purposely within the EEV (well hidden) and then make her way back to the strut well of the drop ship where she’d lay in wait to ambush Ripley and the synth. The xenomorph’s capacity for intelligent behavior was exhibited in Alien Resurrection leaving the door open for such a possibility. However, the queen’s timing would have been impeccable, haha.
