Any amount will help! facebook.com/donate/583330672501314 (You can also leave her a quick message of encouragement!) THANK YOU so much!! Self Confession Here: I have my entire High School wardrobe (from 1997) packed away in "space saver vacuum bags" and I have no plans of parting with those clothes.....I "want to", but? seriously? I have tried so many times before (unsuccessfully) to part with the memories behind the clothes....so at this point? I'm just holding out for the day when I will be able to "let go" without any emotional pain.

I think it will help to take photos of the clothes and maybe journal your best memories from high school. Honestly there are better memories ahead of you, so it will be okay if you let go of those clothes.

@@amandagarcia6320 Amanda, that’s probably the strongest emotional attachment to clothes I’ve ever read about. I commend you for sharing. It’s no use decluttering them until you’re 100% sure you’re ready to let go. Once you do though, you may find other areas of your life open up and become easier to deal with. I wish you the best of luck with your journey. 🙏🏼❤️

When I first found your channel, I thought to myself...I have nothing in common with this woman. Dawn has 4 kids and a husband and I am divorced with only one daughter and I am about 16 years older. But let me say this-- could not have been more wrong. Could be a connection to a fellow midwesterner (Waukesha, WI near Milwaukee) but I think that you being so down to Earth is what resonated with me the most. Your grounded approach and total likeable personality hooked me. I have found myself quoting you often. Your saying everything is inventory changed my life! Everytime you explain reasons behind something I am nodding my head saying, holy cow she is brillant! With today's video I am saying outloud YES DIANA, I have felt the same way thank you for putting voice to things I could not fully articulate in my head! Now the next time I look to work on my closet my mindset is already shifted and that is exactly what I need to do a better job. I have always been a minimalist, but now I find myself wanting to see just how little I really need. Sorry for writing so much. I truly hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas!

Jill? I feel the same way about Dawn. I consider myself to be a "spiritually led" and "prayerful" person but I totally and completely found Dawn at a time when I needed her most, AND?!?!?!? I wasn't even looking for her. This Channel has helped bring so much POSITIVITY into my life. My hoarding became "unmanageable" and I have been PRAYING for help for so many years now. Nothing has changed me (in the area of living a minimalist lifestyle) AS! MUCH! AS! DAWN'S! CHANNEL! Such a blessing to have found her. Good luck to all of us in LEARNING how to "live as a minimalist".

Isn't it funny how we view money and clothes? I mean we could go out and spend $40 at a new restaurant and not really care for the experience. So then we just say, "Oh well. I guess we won't go back there again." But if we spend $40 on a top, and realize we don't like it, we fret about getting rid of it!!! Maybe because the food is consumed, but the shirt still remains? But it's the same $40, right? We are funny!
@lisafraser2313
@lisafraser2313 3 жыл бұрын
marieskee22 wow this a great perspective! Thank you for this, I am going to keep it in mind when I am decluttering. To further your thought, if we spend the $40 at the restaurant and it was only meh, we don’t revisit it regularly and guilt ourselves about the “waste of money”. We likely don’t think much about it again. But with the items in our homes we hang onto them as a continual reminder. And the irritation or guilt pervades. That would be like the restaurant meal giving us heartburn on a weekly basis for years afterwards! Time to move on.

Yes you are right. Truth is restaurant dining should be mimimalized also! Our family ate out at least twice a week when raising four kids. 40 to 60+ . it was our "entertainment". I homeschooled and did have three healthy meals each day otherwise. We divorced kids got older moved on and now I don't even care about eating out. Money is a big part of it now. But also I just don't enjoy the experience. Esp. Now. But at least you have a shirt for more than one day lol!!!!! Think if we would buy nice sheets, underwear, warm boots!!!!! @bitlove? I feel compelled to reflect upon your comment further.....to me? My items really, really! do have "value". I'm not sure why this is, but when I am about to "discard" a household item? I feel a deep "need" to know that the next person to use that item will treasure it as much as I do. Otherwise? I cannot bring myself to part with it:-/ and that is exactly! why my closets, storage rooms, and garage still! are stuffed "to capacity" regardless of my (now daily) attempts to "declutter". Ugh!😩

“There is a joy that is available to us this Christmas.”-Diana. One of the biggest ah ha moments I have had is that I can find and hold on to my joy even if I am unhappy. I always thought “joy” meant that I had to put a smile on my face and be happy...but joy is a different location of emotion. Happiness is an effect of something or someone but I have found that joy is a decision that you can embrace no matter what is happening around you but you have to choose it and then take it in. Joy is like love, a verb you must act on. Love you both. Thank you for your gentle direction back to our loving Father. I am glad we are in this world at the same time. That brings me joy.

My deepest sympathy and prayers in the tragic loss of your husband and father of your girls. No doubt, this painful time is complicated even more during this protracted season of “firsts”. I am praying God’s peace, as He unfurls His wisdom and direction to all three of you you. I pray He tangibly lifts the load you feel weighing you down ... and yes, that you and your family experiences true and sustainable joy in the midst of your floundering and despairing time of raw loss. As you learn to test the waters of YOUR undesired new normal, may God’s presence envelope each of you as He provides, councils, encourages, and strengthens you. And may He grant you much needed restorative rest, restoration and resiliency. May our Father meet your every need. -Hugs

I still have to work outside the home so I am wearing all my clothing per usual but I also know that so many parts of the country (and world) are experiencing different phases of shutdown and pandemic life. 😟 Maybe you could go through and try all those normal clothes on to see if you still like them, they hang right, they fit right, etc. - you might find some items that just aren't what you will be reaching for once "normal" comes back. I wish you lots of luck. Hugs!

I have been getting better at the closet sorting stuff, and did pull out all of my clothes... I was amazed how many clothes were NOT options, but actually work t-shirts for MDO, or costumes for dress up for work! I did the first layer of sorting and moved three trash bags to the donation store. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ When I saw Diana in her closet, I wanted to encourage her to get a step stool to reach the closet easier! 😁 Simple changes make everything easier! 👍

I have referred so many family members to your wonderfully helpful channel. Watching your sister as she learns this process is so insightful as well. I was so surprised at the image of you at the table with Cass and Dana. I didn't realize just howpetite you and your sister are until I saw the perspective of sitting in a chair at a table.Thank you for your Sunday messages. Truly is a joyful time!

I am emotionally attached to the dresses I wore to my baby showers. My son is 6 and my daughter is 2 1/2 and those dresses are still in closet. I’ve considered donating them but I just can’t. I finally gave myself permission to keep them and I feel better. Other than that I’ve been pretty ruthless. Love you ladies so much!! Merry Christmas 🎄

I realized this week that, havung listened to all your videos for years now, the accumulated benefit astounds me. Thank you so much. I also find myself recommending you regularly when other women are telling me about a struggle; since so many struggles are universal, you've usually spoken to it. I wish that I could give both of you a hug and tell you thank you in person. 🥰 (And because little things can help broaden the audience willing to listen--the past participle of wear is have worn. 😋)

Thanks again for all your effort towards these videos. They are making an impact.

So blessed to share Sundays with you both. I am almost certainly on the "other side" of my decluttering journey but I still find things I can part with. It fills me with joy! I think my Christmas present to myself is to spend some more time with Dawn and Cas and to get to know Dana! Dawn and Diana - you are both treasures. And, so thrilled for Dawn to reach to 300k subscribers! I understand if you are still unable to speak about it (I'm tearing up as I type!) but I am so grateful for you and thrilled beyond belief for you, Tom, and Diana! Love you all! Diana, being with you while you shared your sentiments about an item you’re coming to the decision to discard was so helpful to me. It’s typical reasonings that verify how difficult it is to truly declutter closet items. This is extremely helpful to me. And this from someone who downsized her closet by over 50 % several years back. I love the results but I still have several items I don’t wear but struggle to allow them to leave. Thank you. Your honesty really spoke to me. Blessings. It’s powerful to have this sort of assistance from you two. Thanks for sharing.

I love that you did this video, walking through the items and explaining your thoughts on each one and reviewing them in the commentary helps me form my own positive and productive narrative as I face my closet again. Recent changes have placed me in a more professional environment, and I turned 40, so the two combined have forced me to reassess my clothing choices and existing wardrobe. Hubby agrees that I need an upgrade and ought to get rid of my old stuff that isn't flattering or serving me anymore.

I appreciated listening today....when Diana prayed for those who have lost loved ones this year...I lost both my mom and my dad...6 weeks apart...so her prayer touched my spirit. I'm super excited to start this new program in the coming year! My husband and I are blessed to be considered essential employees (and we've had to physically be at work during the pandemic) so it's been hard juggling work, family time, remote learning, and keeping our family healthy (emotionally, mentally). I've found that decluttering has helped me with my own mental sanity and makes me feel like I can "control" the happenings at our house. Thank you for always providing realistic and positive motivation!

Love watching your videos. Esp. on Sunday mornings, puts me in the best mood before church. Recently found your channel and have started decluttering my home. It is insane the amount of "stuff" we have and haven't used for ever. Alot of ppl I follow are moving or have moved and ended up being buried in junk to pack and now unpack. So I just keep thinking "if I was moving would I want to carry this onto the truck" more times then not the answer is no. I have decluttered so much of my closet. I had 7 hanging racks( full to the point you couldn't move them) as well as bins, and shelves jam packed. I have gotten it paired down to one rack...yippee and a few shelves. Hoping to continue to pair it down over time.

I've been contemplating going back through my closet, and I keep putting it off. How ironic this subject came up today in your video! My husband and I have nearly 2 weeks off from our jobs for the winter break (we work at a community college) and this is now the first task on my list. I've already cleaned it out, but kept a lot of "just in case" items. I find myself reaching for the same things to wear each morning. We've been decluttering our home since I found your channel on KZbin and it feels wonderful! There's still lots to do, but we'll get there. My word for 2021 is "Simplify" (this year's word was "Joy"). Despite the virus this year, I have found my joy and what is most important...God, family, friends, and living life without clutter. Wishing you and your families a very Merry Christmas.

I have a suggestion for you Diana as far as your closet. I noticed you have all those bulky and mismatched hangers that I used to have. A real game changer for me was to get rid of them all and use the Joy Mangano velvety hangers. I was amazed at how much more space I had in the closet even before I started to pare down my wardrobe. Yes, it was a bit of an investment, but I would never go back to those plastic hangers again. Two of the best bonuses of my new hangers are my closet looks so much neater with all the matching hangers and also my clothes don’t get those shoulder pokes anymore like they did with the plastic. It was a real game changer and I smile ever time I open my closet!

Giving ourselves permission to feel our sad feelings...so important. Thank you for not doing the typical " count it all joy" pat Christian answers. Thank you for acknowledging the pain part first and I believe as you mentioned it's only by going through the hard emotions ( not trying to minimize or bury them ) that real, true , lasting healing and joy can be found. God is so faithful to accept us right where we're at with our full range of emotions. We don't have to put on a 'positive' spin for Him. He of all people truly is the only one who not only understands our emotions ( hurt, pain, loss, discouragement, despair) but will fully accept us and never leave us through them all.
