That 60 card 3-axis dragon link deck from Utrecht was actually really sick. It’s endboard was Apollosa, Gryphon, IO, Savage, and Hope Harbringer. It still maintained the ability to play through multiple handtraps including Nibiru as well as had the ability to go second rather well. Game 3 of the finals really just came down to the salad player drawing the perfect hand and making the correct 50/50 choice in execution.

A friend of mine topped in 2 regionals and 1 national with a "control" variant of the deck in my country (All of them top 4 because he allways had to go by the time the semi-finals had to start), no one understood what he did, people tried to copy his recipe, but no one got success with it, he had so much luck to allways not ban Gren Maju and be left with like 3-4 cards so he could just summon a humongous one and attack freely. That got to a point that in the last regional, they assigned a permanent Judge just to make sure he wasn't cheating, and when he was back at the tops when people asked the Judge how did that happen, the judge couldn't answer either and just said that all of his win were actually legal and that my friend had some pact with Gren Maju or something...

See, this just gives me hope that I can one day actually win with my REBDS, The Shining, and Super Quant decks... all I need to do is figure out how to make them either _much_ faster, or make them tanky enough to stall for time. Right now, I usually need at least 4-5 turns to win with any of them, if I can survive that long (assuming I didn't go second with an absolutely perfect hand while player 1 got absolutely hosed... in those games, which happen maybe 5-10% of the time, I can win turn 2). Unfortunately, all three decks' boss monsters lack solid protection, so if I don't win on my first turn, I might as well forfeit, and while both the Red-Eyes and Elemental HERO decks can get out some absolutely absurd beatsticks by abusing their main mechanic (having lots of dragons for Red-Eyes Sword's pseudo-Buster Blader effect that would actually be _way_ better than the actual Buster archetype, if it wasn't attached to an equip card that has no protection; and banishing lots of E HERO cards for The Shining, plus Favorite Hero, since it's an extra 2k basically for free; both decks can get out 10k+ beaters within a few turns, but "a few turns" is still _really_ slow), the only _reliable_ way to get Super Quantal Mech King Great Magnus out is cheating it out with Dreadnought Dreadnoid, and that takes at least two turns to pull off, _if_ you're lucky enough to be hitting something with lower stats than Dreadnoid's 2200 ATK, since the special summon takes place during the End Phase. Using the field spell takes _way_ too long, since, even if you magically drew the Red, Blue, _and_ Green Layers in your first hand, you can only get, at most, two of their mechs out on your first turn, and there isn't a lot of good support for the archetype to even make sure you can draw them out. The later support cards help, but not enough to make the archetype viable in the current meta, and said support cards plain don't exist in Duel Links, where you literally only have the field spell and an equip trap. But goddammit, I want my fucking Power Rangers deck, and I'm not willing to accept that the archetype just sucks. I just wish that using the cards and summoning mechanics that I _like_ didn't mean that my decks seemingly _can't_ be competitively viable.

It wasn’t a WINNING Deck, but I wanna take a moment to shoutout Alexander Thomas for being the first person to ever top an event with Madolche, back in 2012....... and he did it by playing the deck as the most asinine, confusing, and simultaneously, most galaxy brained grind deck you’ve ever seen, instead of the usual combo deck everyone is used to seeing it be. Dude was playing 2 SILVER SENTINEL in the main deck and said it was the 3rd best card in his deck! He also had a LOT of super wild random 1-ofs. Cyber Dragon, Nobleman Of Crossout, Scrap Iron Scarecrow, Needle Ceiling, and Drastic Drop Off (which he also said he won a game with off of their opponent shuffling their hand too fast)... and managed to get top 4 at a regional... with a Deck nobody else had yet topped with.

I've been in 1 tournament, it was a teamaps edo pro one back in like 2019, and my Shark Swarm deck got curb stomped. To be fair I wasn't even playing Toadally Awesome, didn't know it was a good card to play for Sharks at the time.

Six Samurai only won in Guadalajara because the head judge ruled that Shi En could negate Hornet in the final.

@@jk844100 That's even worse.
@jk8441002 жыл бұрын
@@DustyGlandon yeah, they got away with it because the opponent didn’t know to call a judge. I guess they just assumed “well Hornet is considered and equip spell so I guess Shi En can negate it”. Which isn’t how that interaction works.

it's almost like Yugioh has unaccountable deck matchup variance so these weird builds can just slip by in what was previous thought of stable metas
