While he is certainly kinder in the way that he presents his frustration and disappointment compared to other channels, he’s still pretty savage compared to how he usually is.

Not surprising. In the live-action world they've always struggled with hit or miss original ideas, thus why the remakes became their fallback. I personally see a market for them making original PG-13 musicals. As for animation: they became bigger than ever in the 2010s, and it led to massive self-consciousness about maintaining the brand and limiting creatives.

Long post incoming: Rachel's casting made me think "Man, it would've been AMAZING if Disney did a Snow White musical set in Latin America with a new plot unrelated to their animated film." I feel the same way about their remake of TLM; they were halfway there with a new location. If they shrugged off the association to the 1989 film and had a new plot, characters, and just Lin's music, I'm sure it'd be a modern classic. In any case, trying to adapt 1937's "Snow White" isn't a good idea to me, because I imagine Greta writing Snow White like she did Barbie, but she can't; Barbie evolved to fit the time's perception of girls/women, but SW has always maintainrd a consistent character that you either love or hate (or feel ambivalent towards). The best route would've been getting the team from "Cinderella" to make this film and give Sandy Powell (who did costumes for both films) more freedom with SW's film like with "Cinderella," as her current work, at least with Snow and the queen, comes off as far too literal. Then bring on Lin-Manuel, the Anderson-Lopez team, or Stephen Schwartz (iconic songwriters) to do the music, regardless of whether or not they go the new Latin-American route or the risky 1937 remake.

@everythinggirly916 Same! Disney animation was big on that, but it feels like they've really becoming self-conscious and only do original ideas rather than derived from fairy tales. And mythology is tricky since, like history, it's culturally tied. Disney would probably feel more pressure to be accurate nowadays versus their usual creative selves (that they were until a few years ago).

Your examples show the difference: modern novels and fairy tales will of course get criticism for story derivation, but actual mythology and legends, AKA cultural staples, are gonna hit harder because they represent a nation. Even "Peter Pan" mostly takes place in a fictional location (with not very good viewpoints on Native Americans).

Thank you! "Once upon a time" is one of my favorite shows, it went a bit nuts in the later seasons but i think its the ultimate proof that live action remakes dont have to suck. They just have to be made into their own big cinematic universe like marvel and in the end of each princess live-action remake Bell is like "let me introduce you to my team" and then when the princesses team is fully assembled they fight together various fantacy-themed threat. And after we go a decade or so of princesses kicking butts we have a time skip to the next gen and THAN we have a proper "Descendants" reboot Just food for thoughts Disnay, you could have had a second MCU if you played your cards right and used those usless remakes to set up something bigger

I think one of the biggest things that isnt helping her hairstyle is the lack of giving her the hair ribbon- part of why Snow White's hair would be like that is cause its partly pulled up/back (I think) from the ribbon in it. I know its a small detail but i just can't fully ignore it. The red ribbon is part of her iconic look. Even if they didnt go full Bow on the head I still wonder why she doesnt have it.

The leak of the new Whistle While Your Work song number is what told me to not see it. I don't mind of the story has changes. Just as long as they keep the essence of the story and characters. This is what Once upon a time did and, at least the first few seasons the snow white adaptation was pretty interesting. And the others loke Mirror Mirror. But this one? New snow while actually proves to be that the classic Disney snow white was really the fairest of them all. Because at she considered doing the cleaning and cooking in exchange for staying in the dwarves home. THAT is Fair. What I see in the leak is NOT.

About the cartoonisly live acrion animals- Disney took quite a hit on their Little Mermaid remake and one of the consistent complants was that the animals like Flounder and Sebastian were grotesque. I think the cartoonish live action animals are a direct reaction to the critical heat from Flounder and Sebastian. And also the Seagull. That was ridiculous replacing Buddy Hackett with Awkwafina. I think you can see a lot of reaction to LA Little Mermaid in Marc Webb's Snow White.

I’d like to see an Ursula movie based on her backstory. Maybe explain who Venessa is as well. Because I always have thought she was far too comfortable as a human compared to how awkward Ariel’s first day was. Was Venessa one of her victims or had she used that persona before. I know the stage play did delve into a lot of background information on her and Trtion. But I believe that would make some good material to use in an origin story film based on Ursula but not one that redeems her just explores her backstory while keeping her evil, sassy and conniving.

This is such a nitpick but I’m actually so annoyed about that tortoise, specifically about its shell being bumpy like that. That’s called pyramiding and is caused by poor care in captivity. Wild or well cared for tortoises have SMOOTH shells bc the conditions are right for their species. Pyramiding is a huge issue bc in severe cases it deforms the spine and ribs. Not only is that just not what a wild tortoise should look like but now this movie is going to normalise tortoises having severe pyramiding so people who’s tortoises are starting to pyramid will probably think it’s normal and not fix it

I have the theory that either one of the main actors or the direct producers for Marc Webb's Snow White have achindroplasicphobia, fear of little people displaying traits of dwarfism. Therefore, having little people, dwarves, and midgets on sets was a deal breaker. That drives the magical bandits we saw earlier and that is why the dwarves we see now are digital.

I hate to admit it but the skin tone does bother me. It's a story about a pale princess. It's in her name. Latinas are not pale. Shoot, I'd accept an Asian snow white if she was pale enough. By Asian I mean Chinese or Japanese. Now if you had an actress from literal Spain where you have an olive complexion, I might make an exception. It's still too dark toned though. True, it's hard to find a European with jet black hair. Sigh.

I'm interested for a few reasons: 1. The backstory with the King 2. Potentially showing us, pre-seven Dwarves, why Snow White is the fairest of all 3. Potentially showing Snow White as a princess who will fight for the good of her people, as a person in a level of power, optimistically, should do. 4. The love interest might be more than just a pretty face 5. The CGI is hands-down better than The Flash, that's an instant W to me.

@@MichaelHesterII1356 While the Flash's CGI was bad, at least it didn't have any characters looking like Polar Express like the dwarves. The Chronobowl has everything in the middle between Polar Express and photorealism, or PS3 graphics. But in Snow White, even the animals are bad CGI. Why can't they just train real animals? Flash's CGI is bad on purpose and it's still better than Snow White. And if they make the same mistake as Once Upon A Time with how the Evil Queen would walk on a greenscreen with her feet didn't stay where she step, then that could be in competition with that choice to put Barry's legs in slow motion while he's moving fast to Gotham.

@SeanWheeler100 I'm not just talking about the Chronobowl. I also include the Multiverse cameos, the hospital rescue sequence, the end credits. What do you mean, "bad on purpose?" The animals, off rip, look better than that CGI Christopher Reeves. Don't forget the OVERglazing WB pulled to try and make The Flash "the greatest superhero movie of all time." Disney, on the other hand, ain't glazin' this film to be something more than it presents.

Well in my opinion,I don't know how I feel about it,wait yes I do. To me she doesn't have the red bow to cover up her head which that's why they keep compare her to the guy from the Shrek movie.😂 As for being her own boss and saving herself? Look am all about women in power but this movie ain't it. And first off the prince is no stalker, I mean heck based on my memory, he only appears once and twice at the end of the film in original Snow White and the seven dwarfs. So yeah that's not really a stalker, as for the seven dwarfs,😢(shake my head) it's just feels like a nightmare or a fever dream. As for her singing as snow white? Well in my opinion,she has a great voice but the voice of original Snow White is soft as she sing, her's is a bit too powerful 😅 So yeah I may not like this movie but I am willing to watch it. I mean I like the little mermaid remake, Cinderella and beauty and the beast. But again those movies haven't move away from the love thing,so why is Disney doing the same with snow white remake? They could done the same with the three movies I mentioned and yet they didn't. Sooo I will watch it out of curiosity is all but let's pray is not too bad😅 Not sure in my opinion. As for the actress,I don't like her due to what she said about snow white movie which that's not cool but she can sing. As for her playing the role of snow white?, ain't she ain't it,she can do it if she has her own princess or something like it like the movie spellbound which I love it. That's something she can do but sorry not snow white. And I agree if I want to see a cool snow white,let it be once upon a Time TV show which is still good.

I think the magical thing about live action is that the audience want to see characters as close to the originals as possible, but in real life, also fill in the original story and don't change it, at least that's something I liked about this live action (in some parts). One of the worst points is that the dwarves are CGI and they don't even seem to put any effort into their design, most of them look the same, too bad we couldn't cast real actors.

Omg, a reasonable take on Disney. I gotta go mark my calendar. Legit, liked Smarty Pants take on this one. Sadly, the hypocrisy and double standards of the majority of these takes, and probably the audience, undercut most of them. If you look at what a lot of people get angry about the most, and what receives the most attention, it's women and progressive values. The popular message is they don't want 'woke' ideology, but what they want is just conservative ideology, and they certainly don't hold male stars up to the same standards. A good example of this is Red One, which is on track to bomb. Do you know why? Because the Rock got 50 million dollars and his ego and unprofessionalism likely drove the budget up. And I would be money many of the people that will complain about Ziegler's comments will give Dwayne Johnston a pass about his behavior. But seriously, kudos to Smarty Pants for not just crying 'woke' and actually putting forth a balanced argument.

they was up to a good start with the live action movies with aladin lion king and maleficent but i dont know what the hell happend back then i was looking forword to see what they bring but now i am worried to see what they do with a live action bambi or brother bear or a live action frozen with either no olaf or a terrible cgi olaf or maybe just a regular human and elsa and anna are not sisters something like that
