Yea I pitched in highschool and also during my youth years and was fortunate to play for coaches that played pro or college and so my baseball knowledge is rich. Because everything that they teach in highschool or even in youth baseball is carried on to the major league level. But even in highschool you knew how many outs there were because the coach would tell you or if we were on the field we would always communicate in how many outs there were. So even if Baez was having a tough time with it is no excuse in why he didn't know how many outs there were. My coach when I was playing youth baseball he would tell us that if your between the lines then your concentration should be on the game and nothing else

Baez is the only player I've seen perform, in this order and direct sequence: 1) hit a grounder to first, 2) call a teammate "safe" at a close play at home plate 3) reach first base safely

I’d rather they scream and yell at adults than kids. Coaches screaming at kids is how you create adults who would rather be murdered than be active.
@chasemartin5373
@chasemartin5373 Жыл бұрын
I disagree, I had some coaches that yelled and screamed at us over nothing growing up. It makes you not wanna mess up as a player. All this nice stuff now makes kids think they can do a lousy job and there are no consequences, not how the world works.

@@chasemartin5373: while this may work for some individuals, research shows that the VAST majority of individuals actually learn better and are more encouraged to improve with positive reinforcement rather than aggressive yelling. (Obviously you don’t want to be overly lenient, if a kid is making a mistake you need to tell them that they’re making a mistake, but it doesn’t have to be in a mean hearted way.)

it's not an attitude problem. it's something else. just Baez as a person. You get the good with the bad. Joe Madden was able to redirect Baez well...

Well said, Matt, and thank you for your professional insight. I've been a Cubs fan since before you were born (my father first took me to Wrigley Field in 1959), and we all adore Javy 'cuz...how could you not?!? When his head is in the game, he's electric, and at any moment he's capable of doing some astonishing thing that will make your jaw drop. When his plate discipline is under control, he's a force, but when it lapses, there's no reason ever to throw him a fastball -- he'll chase breaking pitches out of the zone for a couple of months. For the sake of Tigers fans, I hope they get 'good Javy' back. If they do, they'll fall in love with him again in the way we still feel about him in Chicago. Great channel!

He has really been pretty average his whole career with the exception of 2018. Not sure why this guy gets overrated so much, but I'm guessing it has something to do with playing for the cubs. For a guy treated like some future HOFer, he's only made 2 AS teams in 10 years. 23+ mil a year? Please

Matt, it's kinda an old story now happening in week 1, but what do you think about Ollie Mormol hanging Tyler O'Neil out to dry to the press for his lack of hustle? I thought that was really odd to take it public, and not a good way to start a season.

Well I remember in 19 or 20 Ronald Acuna had a bad attitude and hit a ball and barely jogged to first base and Snit took him out of the game. Word is Freddie Freeman pushed for that but still. You are getting paid big money and the team and fans are depending on you so I have no problem with it

Matt since you manage as well you should have a peer conversation with the Tigers manager and let him know that the phrase "Cmon Javy you gotta start earning that money" works wonders😂

I don't know what it is but the Tigers should just give up on schoop and move Baez to 2nd. For whatever reason it seems like Baez performs better when he plays 2nd instead of short.

I haven't seen him play much in RECENT years (even when the Tigers have played my White Sox), but this doesn't seem like the Baez who played for the Cubs and Mets. As far as I can tell, he didn't have these lapses back then. It's not like he's a rookie. Kudos to Hinch for handling it the way that he did. The last thing the media needs to see (and with cameras EVERYWHERE these days) is another dugout scene.

Baez owns a restaurant/club of some sorts in his home country. I just wonder how much that affects a player on the field. Every business has ups and downs and all sorts of other things that surface. Also, we have all seen how personal problems affect player performance. Makes me think of Yogi's quote, "Baseball is 90% mental, the other half is physical".

Baez seems like he has some attitude problems and/ or he thinks he's WAY more important than he is. I'm a Braves fan, I watch every Braves game and a lot of Mets games when the division is tight and all I remember Baez for is being the deadline move that tanked the Mets in '21. He played terribly after they went and got him to try and shor up the middle infield when Lindore got hurt. He played awful, the Mets own fans were booing him and I think there was a whole thing where he started flipping off the fans on the rare occasions he got a good hit. Whether his issues were it seemed like the Mets went down the toilet as soon as they got him.

It makes sense he just tries to play with a ton of flair like when he was with the Cubs. The problem is he's not on the Cubs and he's on a bad team so at the end of the day he's trying too hard and doesn't have the best attitude to deal with it.

This is really a classic case of disillusionment. I don't know what Baez was expecting when he signed a 6 year deal to play in Detroit, but it apparently wasn't this. They only won 66 games last year, and its obviously going to be more of the same this year. The guy is just not focused and motivated. But it seems like maybe he was expecting more of an effort to bring a competitive team to Detroit, and what they got instead is this loser. To me both the Tigers and Baez are to blame for this.
