I was thinking along the same lines: fence it in, (easy with the portable electric fencing), then bring in the goats - who could eat lots of the greens more quickly, & bring in the chickens at the same time so they can catch the bugs & get some greens too.

@@evj1326 You are correct. Pigs can survive ingesting toxins, but why do it?. It would be interesting to find out if the little ladies actually did eat the leaf that she threw in with the bug.

@@evj1326 Good point. But now that I think about it - goats do eat poison ivy with no issues, so I'd like to know for sure, just out of curiosity. I know when potatoes in my compost pile sprout, unlike the squash seeds that sprout & grow enough leaves to blossom & produce fruit - some kind of critter last year came along & ate them. I do see potato sprouts & they stay around a while, but it seems something must've eaten them as a whole plant didn't develop. The best butternut squash I've ever had grew for 2 consecutive years in my compost pile. Now the groundhogs have found us so I'll need to put up some serious fencing to grow anything here. One year the compost pile gave me 29 gorgeous Butternut squash. I've never seen any so deeply colored on the interior - almost a coral pink leaning towards the inner color of a blood orange, & they were the best tasting butternut squash I've ever had before or since. The following year, the compost pile produced 26 Butternut squash. The squash got pretty big that year too. I had to pick them though they were still growing. I didn't know if they could become so big they'd turn woody inside, so once they seemed bigger than any I'd ever seen in my life, I didn't dare let the last few go any longer. They kept well too, in my unheated back hall. I live in MA, so it's Zone 5B here. It can get down to -20, but that only lasts a few days. So it's nice & cool back there. I kept them in plastic milk crates so they had good air circulation & the last few lasted about a year. The vines were sprawling all over that corner of my yard. To mow I had to lift 11', 12' long stems & lay them back into the compost pile, so they were criss-crossing & continued sending out long arms & produced huge, healthy leaves & fruit well into late fall. They even went through a couple light frosts. The leaved wilted exposing a few more Butternuts - about 10'' to 11' long & the wider base width must've been 6.5" to 7" diameter, (so side to side), so maybe 15" in or 16" in circumference. I was able to give several away & sent my daughter back to college with a few too. Se loved having them to cook in the dorm. I guess they like really rich compost to grow in. I never fed them any other type of fertilizer.

I found a link saying - NO - on goats being able to eat the greenery of potatoes - unless sweet potatoes, but they can eat cooked potatoes if mixed with ...,& sometimes raw potatoes with salt - "as a treat", and more. Jess, if I may .....check out fairgrounds or equestrian facilities along your route to your new home. We have hauled horses across country...and it is invaluable - should the need arise- i.e. a emergency with an animal- most fairgrounds will allow you to unload animals and provide a respite..with fresh cool water, and secure pens. I m experiencing a bit of anxiety on your behalf - the enormity of the logistics... we lift your family in prayer, for the smoothest transition possible.

On my first overseas tour, my HHE went to another COUNTRY! I didn't get it for five months, which was actually pretty freeing. I made a list of the vital things and lived only with those. After minimal "stuff" tending, I had time to go out and play.

We were a Navy family. Dad served 24 years. We traveled with him to several coutries and states. Mom was an expert at making those moves. A plate, bowl and silverware for each family member which gets packed in luggage before heading to the airport. She saved empty coffee cans to use for cooking and disposed of them on our last day. We moved every two years. While giving thanks to the service men and women out there, remember the spouses who serve right along with them.💕

Jess, we use about three chickens each day (different ones) to pick all the bugs off the potato patch. We put a premier fence around the potato patch and the great grand kids pick the chickens for the day. I don't know why they don't damage the plants, maybe because there are so many bugs? Maybe? They do an amazing job. Just my two cents, lol. I have to work smarter as my body has aged, but my mind is still young lol.

Also, soaking in a vinegar water solution sets the colors. Just another option. I do not know the ratio though. My family and I use to tie dye and print t-shirts in the late 80s..(🤪 showing my age! 😄)

I totally relate to this. We sold, packed all our stuff, put it in storage and moved to the country. Currently living in a van on my parents property while we make plans for our future homestead. Living with the minimum and a few comforts... it’s hard. I wouldn’t change a thing though. Just enjoy the process as much as you can xx Cathi xx

I didn’t move 700 miles, nor did I move a farm. I rented a home for my son (who is autistic) to be in the best school program from age 6-21. We condensed 2 homes to move into 1 newly built home. We started a garden on our new property this spring. We used PODS also. They are fantastic! God’s Grace and blessings on you during your move!

I tried to count the number of times I've moved in my life (I'm 73 now) and I stopped counting when I got to 50 moves haha. Three of those moves were across the Atlantic Ocean and one the Pacific. My last and most recent move in 2013 was my 4th trip across the Atlantic. I moved my entire life that filled a large ship container (it did have my car in it as well) all by myself as I'm single, and I moved from California to Tuscany Italy where I live now. Not only was the planning, packing, paperwork, passports, legal documents for Italian residency and a thousand more papers required to be in hand, but I was cramming to learn Italian as fast as I could. My adult son thought I was crazy, out of my mind nuts haha. But I love living in Italy. I just wish I had done this when I was younger. I am thankful God led me here. So let me say, based on my extensive moving experience, you are doing great. Your move definitely, as you say, has a lot of moving parts, but you are doing it, one day at a time. And your forever homestead is on the other end of the move waiting for you. You know God is leading you, He provided for you, and He will continue to bless you Jess and those whom you love. Sending hugs from my side of the world to you all.

If you're going to move those deep freezers with frozen food in them make sure you get a bunch of dry ice put in there and then take off it should be able to keep the food Frozen don't open it until you get it plugged back in

My ex-husband and I moved from the east coast to Wyoming in July. We took an upright freezer with dry ice inside but laid flat in a trailer. I don't remember how long it took...3-4 days? When we unloaded and opened the freezer, not only had everything thawed, it had gone bad. Everything had to be thrown out and it took days to get the smell out. The freezer still worked though! Eat all you can and give the rest to family and friends! ☺️💕

@@robinrummel1359 It is seventeen hours driving time from the northern part of SC to Dallas, TX, so the AR trip could easily be made at night. If that freezer is absolutely full, theoretically it should do fine. We went 30 hours without power one summer before our HVAC got fixed and all my frozen stuff survived, just don't open the door.. LOL! The bigger question is how in the world did you move a full freezer?!

He was in his pick-up with 2 Irish setters pulling a U-haul trailer and I was in my VW bug with a rocking chair tied to the roof and a very unhappy cat! That was in the late 70's and I was 23...young and foolish! 😂

I don't know if you've planned how you're moving your pigs yet, but I raised pigs for 4-H growing up. We had to transport them in a trailer in august and we would make sure they had wet straw to lay in. We'd just spread a bale of straw and spray it with a hose. Good luck on the move!

Jess, I'm more & more impressed with you when I see how many things you can process & still remain good natured & clear thinking. You are killin' it at being a great parent while being a great planner & manager - & with no drama. You are teaching others as you do all this. I really liked the way you recently taught Ben about delayed gratification, too. When at the nursery with your mom & the young boys, you'd turned over some responsibility to the boys to help you curb your urge to buy plants, & to help you to resist. It was so funny when one had said - finally, I have some authority! LOL How bright that boy is to realize that & then to make that observation funny! And then, a couple of the boys started wanting to buy plants! Bet you never imagined that would happen that day! Then, when Ben wanted a plant for his room, you knew the time wasn't right, but didn't just shoot his idea down - you respected him & also saw that as a learning opportunity, & it occurred to you - on the spot - that you could offer Ben your phone so he could take a picture of the Ponytail Palm, with the sign - showing the name of the plant, so he could buy one for his room after you move. He grew up a bit because of that & didn't balk or back talk or get all angry & bratty like so many kids might do. Wow. Your kids are going to benefit from you & Miah being their parents & good teachers about life. Now, even more so because of your vision & the better life you've been creating for them will lift them up as well. We're all getting to see your family grow, as well as your dreams & your gardens. Thanks for sharing your lives with us, & I love seeing the animals too, as I don't have a farm. 🌻

The potato patch issues is a good reason why the old-timers used to burn off areas of gardens. After you dig the potatoes, pile up the vines and burn them along with the straw mulch, the heat will also destroy any eggs and larva in the top few inches of soil (a bonus will be killing off weed seeds) and the remaining ash will be good for the soil. Don't let others stress over the move get to you, you have things covered and God has been providing solutions all along, He will cover the extra contingencies too. How wonderful that Noah and his bride will be moving with you to help and provide family love too! 🙏💞 Prayers for a continuing smooth transition!

We moved from Nevada to Lewiston Idaho. We had 21 Chickens, 2 Ducks, 6 Cats, Parrot, Tortoise, Turtle, 3 Dogs,and a Pot Belly Pig. They all made it,without a problem Thank God 😊

5 years ago I moved 15 horses, 9 dogs, 20 "fixed" barn cats, my furniture, my moluccan cockatoo and my household goods with my 16 ft. Horse trailer: a friend was able to help with a load of the horses one day. I moved all 250 miles!! It can be done, where there is a will you will find a way. Luck to you in your move!!

Pack everything you think you won't need immediately when you get there. Move those things first. Or put them in the rear of a POD. Animals last thing to be moved. And in the heat of summer, move them at night.

Also, get the goats on electrolytes and Probiotics before the move, it will decrease the chances of stress related things going wrong during and after the move. Take a 55 gallon drum of water that you can transition them over to the new water.

I truly hope you see this. If you're going to travel through the night take the southern route not through the mountains. They're called smokey mountain for a reason and having just recently gone through them at night it was very difficult to see the road. We ended up stopping at a hotel and leaving out early because of the fog (smoke). Be blessed

I’ve got a killer moving tip. Start making a non-negotiable list for things you need while in transition. You’ll add stuff to the list everyday and you’ll be shocked at how much you need those things while moving. For example, extra chargers, adapters, toilet paper, paper towels, utensils, extra earbuds, etc. As a kid who moved a lot. Kids need creature comforts so the more comfy the kids are the easier your move will be! Good luck!!!

My husband and I moved goats, sheep, alpacas, turkeys, ducks, chickens , horses, cats and 11 dogs on our own from Missouri to Georgia. Moved 3 vehicles, two trailers, a flat bed and a livestock trailer in addition to the huge moving truck we rented, . Many many trips but we did it.

When you are making a large move and moving a lot of things and animals the overlap that you all have is ideal. You can move slowly instead of all at once. We have done it both ways (not with livestock animals) and we have always loved the moves where our new place was at our disposal for use to move in segments. Makes both tearing down the old place and setting up the new one flow much easier.

If I had to do it again, I would sell or donate as much as possible. I’d keep my best animals, the rest would go to new homes. Keep tools and equipment, your best seasoned cast iron.... anything that can easily be replaced would not be moved. Keep your washing machine if it works well. Especially if it’s old, newer ones are garbage. You got this! Will keep you in our prayers!

Bird in your greenhouse reminded me that this my first year with my greenstalks, I had a bird build a nest, and lay her eggs in one of the pockets. I couldn't help myself, I let mama bird have it. This week she just moved out with all her little babies. It felt like a sweet nod to my garden season this year. 😍

We also used pods a few months ago when we moved to South Carolina from florida. We had 4 pods and I have a ton of candles. Pods put their containers in climate controlled and my candles were all fine. I have over 38 of them. Pods is the way to go

I love your channel.. You guys have a beautiful family. I wanted to say that since you already have a well established channel with lots of subscribers you should contact Bluetti or Jackery and inquire about one of their larger solar powered generators in exchange for a you tube review. They generally come with solar panels and can also be charged by your cigarette lighter port in your vehicle. This would keep your freezers completely frozen on the trip out to your new place seeing how they are already frozen to the temp you need them to be. You would not have to waste any of your charge from the generator to cool them down you would simply be maintaining the temp it is currently at. Just an idea for you guys since you are moving in the hotter months.

Good thinking on not letting anyone know that Miah is gone. My hubby works for Priefert Ranch and Rodeo and travels a lot. I never let anyone but trusted friends know when he's gone. Praying with you for an easy move!

With any category of things... consider classifying them as totally essential every day, seasonal use, and will keep but not basic. Number and name the boxes and packages and make a computer list to help you find stuff later on. When loading the pods, stack the less needed items at the hardest access place and needed items near the door. Make a winter pod and a summer pod...then you don't need to unpack many things for months. Happy sorting. I lived in a family of hoarders and somehow married an even worse hoarder...

just revisited this video... I just watched Jill's tunnel. It is beautiful too. A garden is whatever we want. The tomato lady has wall to wall tomato. The flower lady has mostly flowers. I love both. This is such a great example. Our personality really comes out in the tunnel.

I have such great heart strings being plucked for this time for you. We are retired AF and moved about 17 times in 25 years. I see all of the kitchen stuff still on the walls and in cupboards. Stay calm is easier said than done but you CAN DO ALL things thru HIM who gives you strength sweet family. We have done a few of those 12 hour trip moves and you will do it because you KNOW WHO IS YOUR STRENGTH. Be praying for yous all lots for peace, wisdom and strength in the mighty name of Yashi. I have been working on moving our farm as well. Only 100 miles away lol So watching these videos and Jill's videos have been a bit of inspiration. We just culled 8 turkeys, 10 ducks 14 hens and 6 roosters to the freezer and now I will be making a lot of fowl meals lol

Sounds like you have a good plan! Maybe you could hire a few drivers and make like an old "wagon train" and take everything in one convoy. The drivers could bring tents to sleep in while on your new land. What an adventure!

I probably don't have to suggest this, but I get this idea from my cousins recent move, cause I helped during the final stage. They made sure to make it handy by using coolers and a couple buckets they could access easily once they were staying at the new property. Which contained all the fixings and supplies for grilled meals in order to cut down on cost of transportation and buying stuff they already had but couldn't locate. But please don't forget to either make and have ready your own favorite insect repellent or stock up on your favorite brand! That was one area they had forgotten about. Just thought I'd mention, just in case.

Jess, you better get packing because in the last day it's not ending! Pack the kitchen leave only 1 pot, 1 frying pan, 1 or 2 baking pan or sheet, keep only 1 cup per person and pair down the plates that you leave out.....I don't envy you a bit. I bless you!🤗❤

I haven’t been watching y’all very long and also didn’t realize until recently that y’all live in Vilonia. We lived in Vilonia about 9 years ago. We moved to Oklahoma (for work) and 3 months later the tornado hit and wiped out the subdivision we had lived in. I still have family there and Vilonia is an amazing little community to live in! I live near the AirForce Reserve air base here and jets fly over often. Makes me well up when I get to see them. My daddy was a pilot and shared his love of flying with us so it reminds me of him. I've never had potato bugs here but haven't grown large plots of them so maybe that's part of it. That little pupated larvae looks too cozy to me. Karate chopping spiders is a summer sport here with all my arches and covered pathways. I moved a stack of tomato cages and they had newly hatched orb weaver babies all over them...I squeeled like a little girl so happy to see them. They are so cute in their little yellow and black suits. I still don't like then crawling on me much though. Oh my gosh, your cosmos...those are glorious! I wondered if Jeremiah was going to share what was going on over at your new home. How exciting! This is pretty interesting to hear your process and how you all do through it. Praying for you in this process. BTW, I just made a HUGE decision regarding the sales of all the stuff here. It was not a fun process but God made it clear it needed to be done. This whole thing is harder than I could have ever imagined, and God's sanctifying process feels like it is at times in overdrive...but I am very glad.

For your freezers, check the tag on back near the plug to see what the AMPs are or use a meter while plugged in. Buy a larger than required inverter that plugs into the 12v plug in the truck which will make 120v power. If moving several freezers run one for a few hours then switch to another to keep things good and cold. Don’t put dry ice in a closed freezer in will react and go hot and spoil everything!

I moved twice in 5 years. From SE Iowa to Pittsburgh 5 years ago, 12 hours. It was horrible lol. One year ago moved from Pittsburgh to our farm in SE Ohio, 3.5 hours.... just as bad. You don't realize how much stuff you have until you box it to move. Good luck guys, God bless!

Why do people thumbs down on a vlog like this? I don't get it. Putting that aside, we are retired military. Moving is always stressful. Only once did we pack ourselves and move ourselves since it was house to house in same town (Jacksonville Ar. Lol). I swore I'd never do it again and that was just across town. I have one more move to do in my life God willing, which will be to our future homestead when we find it. I sorta dread it cause we will have to do ourselves. We will remember pods though, that's a game changer. My thoughts and prayers are with you!

Jess, when you transport the chickens if it is really hot and humid when you move them. Try putting bags of ice on top of the cages it will add extra cooling for them and when it melts you have water.
