Jess, another thing about the east coast is that we clear out pine trees and keep the hardwoods. Interestingly, I’ve watched videos of folks in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and surrounding states that cut hardwoods and save pine trees. Here in northeast Georgia, we know that pines have shallow roots and fall easily, grass doesn’t grow very well under them, they are easily destroyed by pine beetles, and they have little shade. We cherish the shades of the oaks and other hardwoods and appreciate their sturdiness to stand for even 100 years! Welcome to the east coast!!
@thistlemoon13 жыл бұрын
No kidding about the shallow roots. We’ve had 2 fall on our house in 10 years.

Very true. I’m in central NC and we call it tornado alley. To expound on your thought Dr B,, when we have hurricanes, accompanying rain, and the subsequent tornadoes, the pines fall easily.

@@nadiajames3883 My German step-mother’s parents had a stone summer kitchen with big, screened windows for summer canning and jelly making, but it was its own little standalone building out back by the pond with a 3/4 bath and enough space for a double bed and a sofa, so they added a little wood stove and made a tiny guest house out of it. We also used it in December for baking Christmas cookies with all the women and kids together around a bunch of folding tables, and all of us kids in our pajamas, rolling out sugar cookies and making pressed almond cookies. Sugar sprinkles and the family cookie cutter collection spread out everywhere. Their big Akita, Honshu, kept knocking cookie cutters off the table with his big, curly tail… It was a lovely, cozy mess that I remember very fondly even 30 years later. ❤️

I love your new property. Great place to ride bikes too. Hydrangeas are a great choice... my Mom had some that looked like snowballs and provided some shade for her patio, which was a good spot to take a break from weeding the garden. My parent's farm was on a river, and we planted several weeping willows there... those willow whips turned into huge trees... probably 10 Dads tall? LOL We also planted about 150 blue spruce for wind breaks and a Christmas tree supply. 🙂 I can't wait to see your new garden design there. Yes, plant your perennial food plants as soon as you can. The quicker those get planted, the better. I was a Rockhound from the time I started walking, I think. I still have a hag stone I picked up on Pismo Beach in California when I was 8 (55 years ago). 😁

Sean from Edible Acres KZbin channel has a nursery and talks about permaculture, guilds and what he does to get alongwith wildlife. For example He likes to plant black currants directly along with a fruit tree, because the deer don’t find those trees easily. 🤔🌤💕🙏🏼😉👍💛💛💛💛🌈⛅️ Try Thrysallis a great shrub tree for the south. Would accent the Hydrangea well. Profuse Yellow blooming spring, summer and fall. Just for future chill time there is a great vlog from Kirsten and Jorg a British YTube channel. They are German and go places, etc. they recently posted: World Famous Hidcote Manor Garden. Thought 💭 Food for Thought for your sculpting of the land. Not the formal bushes, but the rooms, each Garden and the groupings of the flowers. The whites and pale pinks monochrome’s and others with color and texture. Just thought you would enjoy to relax!

Plant a bleeding heart ❤️ bush please. It is a favorite of mine that I have never achieved planting. I am 61 and do not see the possibility for that in my future. I would be honored to my core Jess. God bless you folks. 🙏🙏🙏💝

Are y’all going to practice Joel Saladin farm/Animal plan? I think y’all said your new place is Zone 8? You’ll be in the same as me(I’m in Texas, though),which is convenient. I can watch you and know when to start my seedlings…..excited for you and your family!
