I love all dogs but some are true stand out gems and I hope this training helps them realize they genuinely hit the lottery. A naturally sweet temperament with that much motivation makes for the greatest companion imaginable. He's not trying to challenge anyone. There's no intentional disrespect or ill intent. He just desperately wants to please and didn't know how. That's a once in a lifetime, if your lucky, sort of dog.

The problem areas can be alleviated by using a "place" and "leave it" command. Teach those two commands to your dog, and when they start barking "leave it" and "place" the dog on a floor mat. I suggest going to a professional to get help with your specific problem, but it might help.

Another great video that every new dog owner should watch. And do not despair when you as simple dog owner can not get it right at once. Tom as a professional speaks dog. Our oldest dog is now passing puberty an suddenly understands how wonderful it is to heel. The youngest is just entering the puberty meaning he gets selectively deaf and tries his own things. But we already know that by keeping up the rules for six months or so the result will be even better as we knew basics while raising him.

Nice training, at first I had a very bad conception of your techniques due to using prongs and e collars, but then I realized how you use them minimally and overall mostly train in positive reinforcement. I don't use a prong collar as I already trained my dog loose leash walking using a front clip harness, treats and walking the other way when he pulls. I got my results but took about a year, I guess we could have do it quicker with a prong or slip collar. Nice videos and keep the vibe of No Bad Dogs!!!!

I watch your videos all the time and what you tell the owners is invaluable to me for learning how to train. In regards to the prong collar, my dog, who is pretty well trained always had trouble with pulling on the leash, we tried all the gadgets and tools, extra training with them and just couldn’t consolidate the walking on the leash. It wasn’t until I walked someone’s else dog with a slip, who was so responsive and easy that I realised how different my pooch was. Totally disengaged with me on the leash. Bought the prong, and wow, the progress we have made is amazing and I hardly have to correct him. Engages and settles the brain, like in this video, it is amazing. Not sure why I waited so long 🤷‍♀️, think it was the bad press it gets and was afraid to try. I shouldn’t have worried.

I used the prong collar for a few weeks just to get her to understand the behavior that I wanted her to have while on a walk and now most of the time I don't even walk her with a leash because she understands exactly what I want from her. Prong collars are great if you use them properly and as a productive tool and not as a last resort.

If you've never heard of prong collars before I highly doubt you know what you're doing with one. You don't mess around with prong collars or use them without any knowledge. They provide pain as punishment, that is not something to take lightly. Please just go see a professional trainer.

I love this video, it is on point, shows and explains what the prong-collar actually is and does. In the country I live in the prong-collar is called a “choking-collar”. I hate that word, it reenforces the idea that the collar is hurtfull to the dog and is part reason why absolutely nobody uses it here. I try to tell people sometimes but as soon as they hear “choking-collar” they just shut down and wont listen. It is so sad. People should really educate themselves a little bit before getting a dog. Anyway I love You guys, the amount of dogs You helped, not just saving their lives but saving them from a life in stress and missery, it is really something.

Just watching the owners as well, their praising undesirable behavior is something I see alot of people doing not realizing how much trouble it causes. Its counter productive and I hope it was pointed out to them. Good work and an important video. More people need to know about how prong collars work and their benefits.

Omg, that black dog looks just like ours and with the white on the chest :) and behaves just like that! He's from a shelter and we have had him for only 3weeks. He's doing so much better already, but he's pulling the leash a lot! And he goes crazy when he sees a cat! Have tried Easy Walker, but now he's sore under in his armpits! We just bought a Julius K9, and I hope he will get better soon! So sad that you have sold out the safety clip and the prong collar in your webshop! Keep upp the great work Tom, I love your videos and I have learned so much from you :) Thank you!

I prefer slip lead but the prong works too. My dog uses a regular collar now because she’s leash trained, but as a pup I would use slip.

@TomDavis, can you make a video that demonstrates how to properly use a martingale? And also one that demonstrates how to choose the right equipment for every dog (ie: martingale, head collar, prong, etc.), as well as how to properly use them?

When I used a prong collar on my mastiff I got called an animal abuser. He’s a sweet dog, he’s fully leash trained now. A 4 year old could walk him. But I got a LOT of crap for using a prong for the first year of his life

Watched many of your videos. Have been trying to teach my 4 month GSD to heel with no luck. She is already showing lots of leash reactivity towards dogs and nervousness. Maybe the prong is worth a shot...

I’m a big fan of prong collars. I’m using one on a little 15 pound Chihuahua mix, because if I don’t there is absolutely zero correction. Soon as he has his “school clothes“ on. he’s quite awesome and very few corrections are needed. However, he doesn’t watch me very well. So I have resorted to using a little food to get his attention to look up at me. Also working very well.

I put the Herm Springer prong collar on myself to see how it felt. I think everyone should do it. It just makes me think of a Mama dog grabbing her pup. My dog had become quite leash reactive after getting attacked and now with the prong collar she is much less reactive.

I love watching you work with the prong collar and the walking the dog. My dog has gotten so much better on walks. My issue is, when I get home and the prong collar comes off, he gets hyper and wants to constantly play. How do I tell him to calm down? Do I leave the collar on him??

I understand the benefit of training with a prong collar. But I see so many dogs wearing them all the time not just while being trained. Maybe in the future, do a video on how the prong is a training tool not a crutch.
@kairu_aname
@kairu_aname 3 жыл бұрын
Teach them. Ask them to train with you, and then take the collar off. If the dog is collar aware, then have them wear a regular collar with it. And a long leash Maybe they don't have another collar, you left out so much information.
