Back to add my own theory: Crouch Jr isn't just doing it for his own enjoyment, but to sort of get back at his father. He was kept under the Imperius Curse for years. Maybe after that long, even if he's evil, he doesn't think people should be forced to another's will, and is actually training them to fight it off. Remember, he puts Harry under multiple times just to see him do it more. And I doubt it's to try again. He knows that the more you get put under, the easier it gets to shake it off.

This is maybe a more depressing take, but personally I've always felt Harry resisted the imperius curse so easily is the method theimperius curse uses to compel obedience, it's basically happiness/bliss/pleassure, something Harry's been denied pretty much his whole life. And by the end of the series, I truly think Harry just mistrusts being happy, after his first year of hogwarts he is instantly afraid his friends hate him after Dobby takes all the letters, year two has everyone in the class turn on him, year 3 he gets lied to by fudge, every time Harry has really opened and let himself be happy, it comes crashing down, thought he had a home away from the Dursley's in book 3, and that was ripped from him too. So the imperius curse just being..a carefree feeling makes Harry question it, and the second he's aware enough to question, realizes he doesn't want to do it. Edit: The main reason I feel this more than just the 'strength of character' argument, is because as Ben even points out later in this video, a lot of the main cast share a lot of the same traits as Harry, but most, sans perhaps Neville, at least are way more comfortable being happy. And even Neville, despite how rough his grandmother can be around the edges, I feel still felt loved by his family, still got gifts, like f rom his uncle algae, and perhaps that helps him also lean into it.

This explanation is way happier than the one I've been using in my head since I read the books. The books say that Harry experiences a bliss sensation, which he immediately rejects thinking that "No of course this can't be right". I always thought he could resist the Imperius Curse because he is not used to happiness or safety, and believes that if he feels that way, something is wrong, and therefore he becomes on edge. It was my opinion that the little voice was Harry's thoughts, being smothered by the curse, saying "Hey, this isn't right. Safety is an illusion, don't trust whoever is telling you that you're safe". It's a much sadder explanation, so I do like this one better, but it's the one I've had for years.

So I just realised something (20 years later but whatever): This lesson is a perfect opportunity for Crouch Jr to try to put Harry under his command with the imperius curse. Dumbledore trust him completly and allow him to use a forbidden curse on all his students, including Harry. We know that someone can be kept under the imperius curse for month, even years without anyone notice it. So having Harry under the imperius curse would have secure his victory and Voldemort's plan : Harry wouldn't have tried to save more than 1 person from the mermaids because Crouch wouldn't allow him to. In the maze, harry wouldn't have tried to save the others either and certainly wouldn't allow Diggory to come with him. So Maugrey aka Crouch forced harry to try the imperius curse again and again and again (Harry is complety sore after this) not to train him but to try to get the best of him.

You're absolutely right that Harry wouldn't be getting any warning from Voldemort, but that doesn't mean that when _teaching_ someone how to do a thing, you should start by giving them the hardest lesson and discouraging them every step of the way.
@DavidJones-tp7td4 жыл бұрын
I agree, mostly. A child that had been abused and/or neglected as much as Harry would see anything that seems perfectly trustworthy as a trap. He would view everyone and everything with suspicion. His friends had to earn his trust. Rom did this by not asking for anything and (Ron being Ron) giving indications that he (Ron) didn't fully trust Harry either. Everyone that tried to push friendship on Harry (like Draco) was immediately rejected by Harry. His past has taught him that overt kindness is just the calm before the storm. While Harry is a fictional character, his mindset is all to real form many people and usually because they have endured the same type of early life as our fictitious friend.

My friend and I had this discussion about him once. We both agreed that his innate stubbornness, and the fact that he was a born fighter, and well knew what manipulation looked like. But I think there is another element to it. Half of fighting against something is just knowing that you can fight it. Almost all the other students lived in the wizarding world. They knew and feared that curse. A teacher saying that you can fight it would, probably, not do much to really make them believe that you can. Especially when they see their classmates easily controlled. Harry had no ingrained conceptions. He took the teacher at face value when he was told it can be resisted, and then his considerable fighting spirit and stubbornness came into play. Also, it probably helped that he knew the attack was coming. I imagine the Imperius Curse is harder to resist, if you are taken by surprise. And that experience in knowing what it felt like, and having some experience in fighting it, gave him an edge in resisting Voldemort.

I actually think he was playing his role, after all, no one, not even Dumbledore, knew he wasn’t the real Moody. So playing the role meant doing whatever moody would do, and moody probably had prepared a course schedule soon after the end of Harry’s 3rd year (which is a good guess for when Dumbledore would’ve sought him out after Remus quit due to Snape) and planning a schedule and course work for 7 different classes would take a lot of time to make. So moody probably had most or all of it prepped before he got jumped, and Barty Jr. used it as is, filled in the blanks, or tortured/imperious’d moody into finishing it.

I've felt for a long time that part of why he can resist the Imperius curse is that he has had to sequester Voldie in his mind since he was so young (without even realizing it, since he was turned into a Horcrux as a literal baby). It also would contribute to his lack of skill in Occlumency--his mind is preoccupied with maintaining internal walls rather than constructing new ones to protect the outside

Harry: **gets it by a literal torture spell** Also Harry: no.
@kurt120032002 Жыл бұрын
1:14 actually it is easy to explain how. It is in the books. The pain he feels due to his magical connection with Tom, is not his pain. Tom is in pain being in contact with him, and part of Tom being inside of harry and without any protection, tom soul is tortured, and he feels his pain. After the part ot Tom's soul leaves his body, and the connection is no more, he is both immune to Tom's torture, and he feels no more pain in his head. When Harry was literally burning Tom and Quirrell alive with his bare hands, Harry lost consciousness because of the pain, but not from his pain, but from pain he felt in Tom.
@v.v3654 жыл бұрын
What if there is something to the “voldy soul piece” theory? What if the imperious curse has a weaker hold on Harry because of the two souls inside of him, like the curse’s power is divided between the two souls, so Harry’s natural defiance is powerful enough to break through the Imperius curse?

This would actually fit for one other character in the series, Luna. While Neville and Ginny both helped her to lead the reformed DA, Luna is in a unique position to the other two. She's an outsider who's father ran one of the few papers that supported Harry during the first parts of the second Wizarding war. She's outspoken and flamboyant to the point that she had a lion head hat to support her friends in Gryffindor. She's someone that Harry never had an issue being around at all times. Which is saying something compared to Ron who goes through plenty of friction with Harry throughout the years or Hermione who strains against him while on the run.

Only that which destroys an object beyond most magical repair, can destroy a Horcrux. The sword wasn't required for Nagini. Death is still death. You cannot magically repair from death. They just happened to have the sword. Dumbledore say's it's a bad idea to choose a living thing. Because it operates on its own. If it was virtually indestructible, it wouldn't matter. Also if being a Horcrux made a person immortal. Why didn't Voldemort just force 20 death eaters to use him as a Horcrux. Instead of splitting his own soul. It makes no sense. Also the cast tried dozens of things. To destroy the locket and it was completely undamaged. Harry was almost near death every book. Doubt a bludger can damage any other horcrux.

I think the piece of Voldemort's soul in Harry wouldn't want to "obey" Voldemort. It would want to control itself, like his every horcrux

Best instance of Harry "sticking it to the man" is. "No reason to call me sir Professor."

Crouch is teaching the class to resist the curse and it takes Harry a couple trys. Crouch is so excited to help voldermort with his plans but it's almost like he doesn't want to make it too easy on him, this is why Crouch is my favorite character also it's David Tennant

For the record the reason Harry survived the killing curse is because when Voldemort remade his body, he took Harry's blood. By doing that he took inside himself the protective magic that was protecting Harry from Voldemort and was tethering Harry to life. As long as Voldemort was alive he was keeping Harry alive. And because Harry couldn't die the only thing the Killing Curse killed was the piece of soul Voldemort accidentally put inside Harry.

And yet, the Cursed Child play script exists... I'm with you buddy, the whole play is just a huge contradiction. At least that's how I see it.

@@MrSpacelyy that’s the resurrection stone , it lets him see people that are dead , not the philosophers stone witch granted eternal youth , the philosophers stone doesn’t stop murder from happening as I understand it, but nonetheless two different stones

@@MrSpacelyy omg imagine using "watched the movie" as a flex. And not even being right. The stone has nothing to do with staying alive. Not even the philosopher's stone protects from killing curses.

No. He didn't die because he was the master of death, which is why he had the "choice" to come back or not. If it was his mother's protection, he wouldn't have had a choice.

There was also the fact that Harry was the master of the Elder Wand. It could never kill it's true master.

No, it's because Harry took the wand from Draco in a completely separate incident. (...obviosuly. :3)

Harry isn’t bad a oculusmency he isn’t trying. Harry wants the ability to see in voldys minds. When he first starts he gives Snape a hard time.

Snape dosent says anything about Harry being bad at occulusmency, al he says is that Harry needs to try harder. So I think just like you.

I mean his mind is also being penetrated by a guy who has bullied him relentlessly for 5 years. You try cooperating with an adult who bullied you at 11.

I also think that during his first year he developed his mistrust of authority even more when no adult listens to him about the Philosopher's Stone and has to take care of it himself. We also see Snape (who mistreats Harry for no reason), Lockheart (who is unreliable and incompetent in the face of danger), even Fudge. It's no wonder he didn't go to anyone when Umbridge was torturing him.

@nurdle86734 жыл бұрын
my idea is that the imperius curse only works on one soul, so for harry, it is imperius-ing the voldemort soul part, and a part of harry's soul. this is why harry is can still hear the voice and needs to actively resist it, because it's imperius-ing a part of his soul, but not all of it
