When Chris sings "I won't love you either way" you can feel that gut punch, that love that was there and is gone. He's helped me realize that music can be a kind of acting. Because the story in this song isn't his, but the soul is very real.
@acyour3 жыл бұрын
You don't "Fall out of love" or "That love is gone". It was not love. It was fascination and infatuation. And there for a waste of time. True love Never Dies.
@DBEtah3 жыл бұрын
@@acyour Disagree. That's a fun romantic notion but love isn't magical. It's the result of chemistry and commitment between human beings and people change and when people change their chemistry can change or their life circumstances might lead them to changing their commitment to one another. That's just life. It's far more capricious and arbitrary than a sonnet.

@@acyour It may seem cynical, but love (any relationship really friends family ect) is like a bank account, into which both parties make deposits and withdrawals. When those start becoming lopsided in either direction love dies. There's no such thing as true love. Love is a delicate flower and has to be maintained, care for, pruned and watered.. or it will die. No matter who you are, no matter what your story.

I suspect he’s had other relationships that didn’t work out out. I also suspect he has friends and maybe relatives in loveless relationships. Or maybe he’s just a hell of a songwriter who has the sensitivity to delve into human emotion and put it into song. In any event, I love this song.

other theory: he sings this song & put all his emotions in it because his wife always loved that song and she was the one that encouraged him to record it after it was already recored 9 years prior^^ "My wife always loved that song, which should worry me, but she just loves really slow sad songs and she always wanted me to play that song So, I felt led to do it and if I'm gonna sing something, I'm gonna sing it with every ounce of belief and try to put every bit of believability in a lyric that I can."

Chris can tear my heart out and bring me to tears faster than any other singer, He can make you feel emotions you didn’t know you even had. His voice is pure emotion even when you can barely hear what he is singing. It creeps into your soul and just pulls all sort of emotions out of you. That is pure talent that few have and even fewer understand. The man is a phenom! A gift from God! And I will listen to anything he sings because everything he sings is pure gold.

I had a really rough patch with my wife several years ago. This song came out and hit me like a ton of bricks. We got in a fight while the kids were out of town, and she said she was leaving again. I told her I wasn’t begging her to stay anymore, and if she wanted to leave I wouldn’t try to stop her. She stormed out, and came back 30 minutes later. She asked why I didn’t chase after her, and I played this song for her. It literally changed my marriage. We are now fine 5 years later and have no plans to ever be apart. Music is powerful.

After I discovered the world of Chris Stapleton, I got on iTunes and I purchased every song of his that I could. I have not found a bad song yet! Speaking of this song though, the lines that kill me, almost literally kill me because I actually understand them, is “you can go or you can stay, I won’t love you either way.“ And you are absolutely right. No matter what song Chris sings he’s able to feel it and portrayed the emotion as he sings it. I think that’s one of the most brilliant things about him!

Whenever a friend exposes all their heartache to me, it breaks me. I carry the pain for days. I imagine this with Stapleton's songs. Supposedly he is happily married. But these heartbreak songs are so gut wrenching. So, this is how my imagination goes....A friend comes to him & dumps his troubles on Chris. Chris listens. Then, Chris goes & writes a song about it. Probably not the way it works...but...
