I started practicing meditation on a daily basis about six months ago and I have recently come to realize that most of the people around me are often times hasty, hurried, reactive, distracted, agitated, and impatient. I used to be very much like them.

If you keep and intensify the practice you will be able to regain the perception of your own flaws. Then compassion grows. That initial phase is the most delicate to the ego, who tend to misjudge the first improvements as a change in character. But that will take years.

I know what you mean. The struggle, for me at least, is to not view myself as "above" them. I sometimes notice serious meditators can be a bit "holier-than-thou" about people that don't do it and have less control over their emotions.

I’m 42 and just started meditating trying to keep my attention on my breath. So far I have to say it’s not hard, but not as easy as it may sound. Right now I do on average probably 10 minute sessions. My stress response in many ways is poor so I’m hoping meditation can help me manage stress and perhaps increase my stress threshold. My favorite part so far is when I slowly open my eyes and the feeling of relaxation I feel. I’m from the US and our culture as a whole doesn’t seem to value slowing down. I think we could all benefit from slowing down. In some ways I think Covid introduced the idea here because we had too slow down. It gave us time to think and value some things that we weren’t before. Just my thoughts. Peace

I started practicing meditation because I have morning anxiety and sometimes it gets extremely hard to survive the rest of the day because of it. I really got some amazing results after a few days only.. Like throughout the day I feel full of energy and there's a sense of positivity everyday, I feel happy. Also there is one thing I noticed that earlier my head used to feel heavy as if there's some load up there but now it feels like that load is gone.... I'v been meditating.. on and off for almost 50 years.. My experience with meditation.. over the years is.. it never fails to surprise me.. but I have no control whatsoever on how it effects me.. I just let it happen.. Lucid dreams and visions.. Out of the body experiences.. Glimpses of the future.. Intuitive insights.. Creativity.. Wisdom.. Feeling completely intoxicated while out walking.. comparable to being on drugs. Seeing a strange pure light.. that does not originate from the sun.. but comes from somewhere deep inside me.. Levels of consciousness that I didn’t know existed.. that overwhelm me with their beauty and feelings of bliss.. etc. This is not something that the human-race should ignore.. IT’S A HIDDEN TREASURE.. inside us all. Just like the iceberg.. there is so much more to every one of us.. than what meets the eye.. what Jung referred to as - THE UNDISCOVERED SELF . "That which the dream shows is the shadow of such wisdom as exists in man, even if during his waking state he may know nothing about it... We do not know it because we are fooling away our time with outward and perishing things, and are asleep in regard to that which is real within ourself." - Philipus Aureolus Paracelsus

I teach mindfulness meditation online as part of a mindfulness therapy program that I offer. In essence, mindfulness meditation is learning to embrace experience directly without reducing it through labeling and judgement or prejudice. When you can fully embrace anxiety or depression in this way you create the exact conditions that promote healing and transformation, which is why it can be so effective in promoting well-being.

Dear Scientific American: At 0:22 of your video, the animation displays neuronal signals propagating BACKWARDS (i.e., from axon terminals toward dendrites). If you mean to suggest that meditation rewires one's brain to that extent, it is certainly to be avoided. That can't be good for you.

I absolutely love meditation, it has drastically changed my life for the better, but this is false. Life intends for us to be mindlessly striving and anticipating for the future. The two natural things are to focus on something that you are highly motivated to focus on or, alternatively, let your mind wander. Meditation is, by definition, unnatural.

@@acardinalconsideration824 Hi, very late to the party, but your comment is interesting. I think it is society, education/values and technology which makes us be mindlessly striving and anticipating the future. Heyy. Did it help you?? I'm thinking to start meditating. Yea and ik I'm asking you after 8 years but that's ok.

@@ahmadtakash7605 start it now. It will be beneficial in the long run. I know it's never too late to start something new. But really Im telling you, meditation is best medication for brain. Don't trust me! Try it for at least one week everyday for just 10 mins. Here on KZbin, you can search and start meditation in "meditation for beginners". It's just 10-15 mins in whole 24 hrs that you will give to yourself and it's important.

Meditation takes time be patient. It can be really hard, it can take a week, months but do it every day without a fail. You can feel high from meditation. It feels really good. Do it everyday especially when you wake up make sure is the first thing you do. Good luck.

how has meditation changed you?

It didn't change me it has destroyed me. I am suffering from mysterious head pressure that no one knows how to cure. Be careful I found hundreds of people on internet that share same consequences of meditation.

svarogthegreat actually that is the third eye opening... I have the same thing just let it go, there is nothing in meditation that can destroy you, if not transform you into a more calm person.

+WINSTON RODRIGUES it depends where you will put your focus during the meditation. if you're focusing on your breath, i think it's easier do it with your eyes closed.

It depends,if it's things such as energy meditation than eyes closed If regular meditation than open
