THANK YOU guys for all the views and subscribes! Great comments! Let me know if there is a concept or play you'd like me to look at in depth, or if you have a clip of yourself you want looked at (We can make a video for the channel out of it or we can do it privately).

Dude this is so helpful from a fantasy perspective! It's great to break down goalie performances to be able to look past the numbers. Would love to see more of this in the future!

That 4th goal looks like bad news bears. How in the world can Kempe walk down broadway with that bubble of 4 Rangers around him and still be the one to get the puck cleanly. Puck watching is a high school level issue.

1st goal - as you say, didn't swivel his hips to get the angle change, but idk if that would've mattered 2nd goal - his chest is down, so his lateral movement is limited, bad fundementals 3rd goal - like you say, late move, so he's forced to slide. Should've been a simple shuffle or short t-push and get into a ready stance to set his feet at the top of his crease. 4th goal - that defense is ... certainly a thing that happened. The most I can say for Igor is that maybe - MAYBE - I might like to see a push back, but can my man get some help? And I say that as a Devils fan. 5th goal - once again, my kingdom for a defensive clear when they have numbers in the slot. For Igor, if you watch his motion, he's not leading with his head/eyes. If he gets his head around, he can pivot his hips and get a good angle for the push across rather than trying to push across the top of his crease and reaching. I'm not sure if that's him being off his game or a chance in the way they teach goalies since I stopped a few years back. Two goals are on Igor. But that doesn't change the game result so I'm willing to say he's getting a bit frazzled by having to compensate for his team not helping him. He's trying to be the spark rather than being the foundation.

Second goal chest is down I think because he tried to cover so I'd say the issue is an incorrect read that he would get the cover in time. The fifth goal I think you're right he moves before rotating but I think it's because that puck was on his defensemans stick first and he was expecting a much different play to develop in front of him (Still not sticking to fundamentals and moving before his angle is set though). I think hes been anticipating and moving too fast for a few weeks now but I'm not sure he can recover his game with that type of defense in front of him. Thank you for the comment!

And goalies are still told to always set their angle and lead with eyes and head first, I think it's simply a result of the play being fast and Igor feeling like he didn't have time (But this is of course not an excuse, my coach used to tell me 'you always have more time than you think'). I think it's a bad habit to move before your angle is set on a puck that's out that high and not in tight. But It's something we don't see much from Shesterkin when he is on his game. I think he's way off right now and struggling to get back to form.

@@Jbeen3596 Yeah valid point on him reaching for the cover. I think my only critique there is that I might like to see him try to hook it in with his stick and bring it to his glove so he can keep his chest up as long as possible, but idk if he would've had time to do that even. With regard to the second comment you made, that is a valid point and I think there is something to what you reference with your coach and the follow up point that you made - to me, he's getting a bit out of his base fundamentals because he's trying too hard to be the guy we know he is and get his team to get the cement out of their asses. He's definitely off, but it's being compounded by his team putting in no effort in front of him.

I’ll tell you exactly why his mind is focused on the high danger option instead of the shot: The Rangers defence can’t take away any passing lanes in their own end off the rush, so he’s hesitant to commit on a puck that may come into his kitchen. There are two problems here. Fist things first, he needs to take his mind off the fact his team isn’t playing good enough to help in front, and be more aggressive to the shooters to force them to make the secondary option he’s expecting or stop the shot that’s right in front of him. Simplifying his approach. Secondly the Tangerine coloured stationary objects in front of him need to take away the passing lanes by having a back checker draped all over the guy taking it into their zone. Win their battles and get it out.

I agree. Whenever I find myself over thinking like this I like to tell myself ‘play the puck in front of you’ to remind myself I can stay on top of the puck and still get to other options

Cant even blame him for the third goal, really. He was covering the exact play that happened on the 4th goal. Which he would have had for the 4th if not for the yet another playing walking down broadway

Similar but check out the area the puck is passed from on the fourth goal. Much further from the net. It’s a lot less risky to play deeper and be looking to jump pass options when the puck carrier is outside of a dangerous shooting area. Once the puck carrier comes below the circles and inside the dots id consider that puck in a ‘high danger’ area, meaning the shot has to be respected fully. This is how I was coached to prioritize my positioning on such plays, but in a fast game it’s hard to do it right all the time and stay confident in yourself. Also 100% the rangers let yet a second player walk all the way through all of them on the rebound, nothing he can do there I think.

Not the best play by the Eleven Million Dollar Man.... But we could have Brodeur...Roy...Hasek...anyone in there, and still lose with: Very little goal support from the offense Terrible giveaways Rushes allowed Game played in our zone Multiple shots allowed, multiple puck battles lost 'Defense' acting as if the Kings all had No Contact Jerseys.

Quick would’ve given up a couple goals max vs the kings imo.
