I remember a few years ago watching the All or Nothing documentary, as a Devils fan, thinking Keefe was exactly the coach the Devils need. I have nothing but respect for Ruff, but I'd see the footage of him giving speeches in the locker room and it was an old man talking slow to a group of young, fast players. It would put me to sleep. They needed motivation.. someone younger and just the right amount of fire under him.

It's pretty clear now that Monty was already heading back to the Blues end of last season. Another reason why they went quiet on his contract negotiation with Bruins. His heart is in St Louis not Boston. I wanted Claude Julien brought back into Boston, before last playoffs. We got our 2011 cup under him I was laughed out of every B's chat room "Julien is washed up. Nobody wants him.. Never coaching again" But I knew he'd be an excellent partner to Monty. Julien coached Tory Krug in Boston With this dynamic duo? Blues could get dangerous. I'm a B's fan, my colors don't run. But I'm a fan, not a fool!

I think Berube and Warsofsky have had the largest impacts on their respective coaches. Keefe has an easy year to year comp given how off base the team was last year with injuries and rookies being forced to move up earlier than expected. Berube has the Leafs playing more like a playoff team would. And Warsofsky has made a net 1.08 goal per game improvement in the Sharks from a year ago. And like you mentioned, they are a more entertaining product this year. Much more engaged and they're fighting to win games, especially late games since their opening 8 game rough patch; with the Sharks 7th in 3rd period goal scoring in the league since 10/27. I don't think last years Sharks team was ever outside the bottom 5 at any point in time in 3rd period scoring.

Keefe has been great, but he's also dealing with a different on ice team than last year. Better, wiser defense. With the addition of size, experience, and better health, and better goaltending. Not saying Keefe has nothing to do with it, but I'm sure that helps.
@thepinkplushie12 сағат бұрын
There's probably such considerations for most or all of the teams on the list I'd imagine. Speaking for Toronto, the team is very similar to last year just with slightly worse offense, slightly better defense and WAY better goaltending. And that last element is probably having a big impact. When your team is getting above league average goaltending every night either of your tandem is in net, you're going to pick up points and improve stats.

Biased as a hawks fan, but the shift away from Richardons "try not to lose" system to a more offensive one is a great benefit to the hawks mix of young talent and already defensively responsible veterans. Guys like Tuevo dont need to be told to defend, he was simply being smothered under richardsons constant line shuffles and timid use of D on offense. I think richardson is a good coach, just not what this group neeeds at this time. Id love to see what sorenson can do with more prospects hes been coaching coming up from rockford. There is way too much established skill on this team to be playing as bad as they did. Its refreshing to see a D-man pinch down the boards lol

How can you give Monty so much praise after the shit he pulled two years ago? He let Bergeron lead the team his first year in Boston. He didn't have to do shit and we set record after record. In the last few games the year, he should have told the important players to rest and stay off the ice to avoid injury. What happened? Bergeron got injured, Pasta got injured and Marchand got injured. STUPID. That was his first test and he FAILED. A coach needs to lead a team and prevent them from doing stupid shit like getting major players hurt in meaningless games. Then, the playoffs start. We win game 4 against Florida and go up 3-1. We are owning them on both ends, but Ullmark gets badly injured and flops around on the ice. Suddenly, Ullmark can barely f--king move in the goal. Monty keeps him in for game 5. Ullmark looks like a fool, completely off his game, which makes sense, considering HE'S IN PAIN AND HAS LOST FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT. Everyone and their mother expected Swayman to start game 6 - but nope. Where's Swayman? ON THE BENCH. Where's the INJURED Ullmark? In the net. Gee. Our goalie is hurt, I wonder what, oh what, may the result be? Well, big surprise. Ullmark flops around like an injured seal. Obviously he was hurt badly. The team kept it secret from the fans, but we knew something was f--cked up. Finally, when we were up against the shit, let's just throw Swayman out there. A fantastic goalie that has proven his worth all season, banished to the bench for the series for 6 games, and even when the starting goalie was FU(KING INJURED for the last 2 games. To no surprise, a cold Swayman fought and fought and took us to OT, but he wasn't ready because he had been benched for too long. Had he been put on the ice for game 5, I guarantee that series would have been won. Monty can kiss my ass. I was so freaking happy when he got fired. Good riddance to that man. I like him as a person, I'm glad he got his life on track, but the choices he made that playoff series were unforgivable. I wanted him fired before last season, but he stayed. We did alright but I knew his days were numbered this year. He lost the team's respect last year, and it only got worse this year. There's a reason the team was playing like ass this year, and as soon as THE PROBLEM was removed, the Bruins went back to their usual winning spirit. I don't even want to hear about Monty again.
@blackenedmagic888Күн бұрын
"Back to their usual winning spirit"? Since Monty got fired and Sacco replaced him as the Bruins' head coach, the Bruins are 9-4-0 (three of their wins in OT). Sounds good, right? Until you look at their opponents - of their nine wins, only three were against teams with a .500 record or better (Philadelphia (in OT), Vancouver (by far their most impressive win), and Calgary (in OT). Add in the fact they got absolutely dismantled (and then some) by Winnipeg and soundly beaten by Seattle and there's definitely a reason for Boston's fans to have concern. To make matters even worse, starting tomorrow with Edmonton and going though all of January, they have to play a lot of high-end teams. Let's see what kind of "winning spirit" they have after that - somehow, I get the feeling it won't be a lot...
