I reviewed Vampire Survivors back at the beginning of the year and had a great time with it, but back then it was just kind of a really cool little thing that kind of went in circles after a while. I played it again when it hit 1.0 and within two runs I was blown away by the amount of new content I was seeing. I dipped into my savings for the two dollars necessary to get the DLC and plan on checking that out when I get more time. I almost want to make another video for it, but there are so many games out there I have a hard time justifying a revisit.

Vampire Survivors encourages community discussion because there’s more depth to it than meets the eye. If you want to make a broken character, you need to learn projectile limits for each character and each global stat limit. If you want to just play vanilla characters with strong synergies, you need to learn what weapons scale with each of the stats. In this game, just when you think you’ve beaten the game. There’s usually more things to do.

i really like the game, i think its really fun while you’re still unlocking all the content, but once you get everything, its just not fun anymore. you just pick any character, finish all your items at 10 minutes and sit still for the remaining 20. arcanas are stupid, 1 weapon runs are literally better than 6 weapon runs, and the blue dlc lady is so much worse than every other (non-troll) character it hurts.

It's funny because it's a game I played exactly for 5 hours, and I don't think a game as wasted my time as much as this one. Sure there are secrets (as far as I got I think I found all the artefact and coffins that I could), but when any new step is a 30 minutes run that will usually be the exact same thing it was before, except in another direction, I have a hard time finding it interesting. I think you still need to find the core gameplay loop interesting, and honestly VS does absolutely nothing to me. Numbers going up is just boring to me, and becoming a all powerful god doesn't get as fun when it's the expected endpoint of every run. As far as auto battlers go, I already played SNKRX and I should probably have gone the Super Auto Pets way.

Very well said! I heard the hype and finally just tried it on iOS. It basically felt like an idle/ clicker game that takes longer. I felt “gross” after playing it, like I was being manipulated into thinking it’s fun because numbers go up a bit every time. I will now watch the spoiler section of this video because there is no way that mystery can be worth the time.

@@dougiehockeym8071 Yeah the idle game comparison makes sense. I can be pretty into this kind of game when the presentation is interesting, but usually they don't ask me to sit and do nothing for 30 minutes. Or at least they're easy to multitask, while VS asks you to at least pay attention to it. I'm sure if they made the game work on a 10 or 15 minutes time scale I would have been more into it. But from what I've seen, the only shorter level is also a level where nothing (that's I've seen) happens. I've also heard there's a "hyper" mode, but apparently you don't unlock stuff with it :|

Sounds like you guys have only a shallow experience with the game. There’s more to it that you can only experience after many hours. There’s also an extremely high difficulty scaling that requires you to actively play until you’re fully setup. The setup process *is* the fun.

"becoming a all powerful god doesn't get as fun when it's the expected endpoint of every run" It's more of a requirement than an expectation. On level 1 for example, If you weren't strong enough by ~12 minutes or so you would get absolutely destroyed by werewolves. Theorycrafting builds (and fitting it to match what RNGesus gave me) to try and pass checkpoints like that is what made it fun for me, personally.

@@nickfranssen6893 Yeah the fact that it's a requirement is the reason for why every run is like that :D My point was that becoming overpowered in games, mostly run based ones, is fun when it's a "surprise", when it's a reward for exploiting the game, or the result of a very lucky roll.
