When that video was shot it had a 600 CFM Carter carb, it now has a 750 CFM. It was also shorty headers, now Jegs long tube headers. Hi, I'm Chucky, wanna play?

It's not the car, it's you. You also might want a different set of tires because you're losing quite a bit of time continually spinning. Also you should be able to hit 60 without switching in to 3rd gear.

What gears ? Try the 327 with 4R70w trans. I have a old school built carburetor 1985 block with 40p heads that would just laugh at you.

I had 373s in my 2v and i was blowing tires at the top of second gear with 315 tires too . Thise straight axles are fun if you want rip tires and donuts but can be awful for straights

Ive beaten a lot of high powered cars because they cant put the power down. My auto 2v held out against a kb blowzilla sn95 until he caught traction and started rolling out. Gotta try the doctor pepper launch prep.

Yheah I used to mess with my friend who had a 600hp terminator in my 200 hp coupe.,.in a short off the line I could take him just because he couldn't launch. Made me crack up. If we'd have gone 1/4 mile or anything past 40mph I'd have been no race at all..it was just fun to mess around.

@@jamesrichardson1748 Basically same scenario for me. The car had basic pi bolt ons on a npi 3.27 geared Mustang. Probably only put down 215hp to the tires but it weighed 3250lbs with me in it so it would consistently run low 14s, sometimes dipping high 13s on almost completely stock Ford/Lincoln parts. The 1/4 e/t may not have been amazing but the 60 foot and 1/8th mile were impressive for so little money. Now its going 4v and hopefully i can maintain those good launches.

I know this is older but if it helps I shift my cobra at 7100. I have the limiter at 7200. Defiantly don’t need a 2-3 shift for 60. Mine is bone stock except a little bit of tire and I hit 6.0 to 6.1. I think with a better driver that’s myself and a better transmission this car would do 5.8 in real world condition. The 1-2 shift on my t45 is tough But definatly use the rpm band of these cars. It’s the entire point of a small v8 DOHC

This car has 4.30 rear gears so the top of second gear was somewhere around 48 MPH if I remember correctly. This car Probably could have done 0 to 60 close to the 4 second range with proper traction.

That third shift kills the 0-60. Change the gearing and i'm sure it would be fine.

Exactly a set of 3.55 u can hit 60 in second gear that would bring u to 5.5 seconds..But that’s all ur getting out of a stock 96-98 cobra because of the lack of low end torque..

I used to hit over 60 with 410 in my 97 cobra you gotta rev it all the way to 7k. I just had 275/40/17 which are under 26 inch if you had 26 or even 28 inch you could easily get well past 60. These cars have long gearing in the trans and rev high compared to gt of that year. It should be hitting above 60 before 2nd redlines.

Because a stock car has less power and God awful 327 gears that makes you easily clear 60 in 2nd gear. 0-60 is more about traction than anything. Its a stupid stat imo.

Hows your trac loc? Mine will burnout with both, but spins one between first and second. This may be your issue.

The rear was completely rebuilt when I had 4.30 gears put in. The main problem is Traction. This car is not setup to go straight. With that said though, I could definitely get a better 0 to 60 time than I did in this video. This car has kept up with bolt-on coyote cars so it definitely has the potential. One day I need to try again and get a better time 😎👍

Ok, the 0 to 60 numbers you are chasing were done with the car being power shifted 1st to 2nd. No letting off the gas. And don't discount the fact the car with those numbers had new rubber, lower altitude, different surface, different fuel, cooler temps ..................... stuff like that.

I actually wasn't power shifting. Just trying to shift as fast as possible. The car has 4.30 gears in the rear. It's incredibly difficult to get this car to hook on the street even with the 315 wide ultra high performance summer tires. Though what hurt the times the most is likely because I didn't air down the rear tires. I may try it again before it gets to cold and see if I can get a solid run.

@@KarzKreated Yep, lifting when you shift is a no no for et's. And it wouldn't kill you to get a set of DOT legal slicks .................... just saying. Something that will hook 2nd gear. When you hit a great 2nd gear at red line it really releases the endorphins! You throw some tires on it and start power shifting the 1 to 2 shift like you're spodda. For 0-60 that's all you need. The clutch and the shifter, simultaneously with authority and leave the right foot to the floor. Doesn't hurt to have a rev limiter too (-; That car has one already yes?

Ah I see what you mean. I misread your first comment! I've been reluctant to power shift it. I'm not sure of the cars history and at well over 140k miles, the stock t45 trans is likely on borrowed time. But next time I try, perhaps it wouldn't hurt to keep the go pedal on the floor 😁

@@KarzKreated I would get a 27 inch slick or drag radial on the back that way you easily clear 60 in 2nd gear. I used to clear it with 4.10 and under 26 inch tire but you have 430 so that may be the different between clearing 60 and not clearing 60 in 2nd. Little taler tire and drag radial and powershift you'll be amazed how much time drops off

You can build a termi clone for less than a real one. All the Cobra engines have great power potential when boosted, but 97 through 2001 will need rods and pistons to be happy above 500 hp. 97 through 98 Cobras have a solid rear axle where as the 99, 01, 03 & 04 have IRS. It really depends on your goals and what you want out of the car. For me, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another 97 through 98 Cobra.

It's much faster than what I was able to get in this video. I was having a hard time with Traction. If I can get this car to hook up and not spin on the 1-2 shift, I'm sure it could get to 60 around 4 seconds flat.

These cobras can get into the 4sec range with just a good set of sticky tires! This foo was spinning the tires bad because he has summer tires on with too steep of a rear gear for those tires! With just drag radials he would cut down about 2sec

Dude 0-60 is a stat about TRACTION not how fast the car is. Obviously when you're running 430 with a street tire traction is gonna be very limited so the time isn't gonna be good. Idk what is wjth everyone's big obsession with 0-60. It's a stupid stat. Do a 60-130 or a 40-120 or something if you wanna see how fast the car is. 0-60 is all about traction.

I have the same problem with my SN95. Tired old 168k mile 302 and whooped T-5 with no 2nd gear synchro left. Exhaust and cone filter plus upgraded clutch and 3.73s. Absolutely shreds NT555s on the 1-2 shift. My best time on the street was 7.3 seconds with the dragy. At the track it went 14.93 and cuts consistent 1.9x-2.0x 60’ times so it would’ve had to have run mid 6s 0-60, but on the street it has no grip.

I have a Dragy as well. Tried it on my 97 Procharged Cobra, 440WHP. It sucks, I have ZERO traction til 3rd gear even with 315 Nittos on rear. 5.3 to 60mph for me. 1/4 was a 13.3 @ 117MPH...So it's good, I know the car makes power, but has ZERO traction.

315 aint gonna do shit if they're street tires you gotta have a drag radial or slicks. If you wanna put the power down you gotta bite the bullet otherwise you're gonna have shit times. Going wide helps little compound of your tires is what matters.

This car, in theory, could do it around 5 seconds, or a little under in the high 4 second range. They were mid to high 5 seconds completely stock. Still reasonably quick even compared to today's standards. People often forget this erra Cobra only made a shade over 300 HP. It's the 03-04 Cobras that are the ones to look out for.
