It’s mad to think that only 2 drivers (max and Charles) had faster times in quali than Ralf, who is in his late 40s and hasn’t driven the car in nearly 20 years. Also consider that the Williams wasn’t the fastest car. If you get one of his brothers Ferraris or kimi’s mclarens or Alonso’s Renaults and put a young driver in it e.g. Alonso. He could very well be able to beat the 2022 pole time of max.

Which Electronics? Hybrid and ERS?
@michaellavery4899 Жыл бұрын
@@mondexponent2126 It seems like incorporating these into the power plant has made it so complex, potential manufacturers have been put off competing in F1. Surely it doesn't have to be so complex if it can be run in road cars 'reliably'. Also, the amount of changes the drivers has to make to the various settings he has access to is removing the essence of 'pure driving'. It's not just F1. It's road cars too. Parts are sealed and disposed of because a sensor doesn't like a reading. Now for the f2004 with slicks.
@thesourceofthenile Жыл бұрын
This car had traction control originally, just as other F1 cars from that point until after 2008. I don't think it would've needed it to run fast with slicks and likely just used the lowest setting for help with getting on the power faster with corner exit. F1 was dangerous because of grooved tires until TC allowed the cars to become much more driveable. Even greats such as Hakkinen and Schumacher would crash while leading races or performing at the top due to grip-related issues. These cars deserved slick tires and it's nice to see that V10 F1 cars are consistently being used with modern Pirelli rubber instead of the more durable grooved compounds of its time. I spend a lot of time in AC and there is a great mod for the Ferrari F2004 with slick tires and engine performance rebalances. It will run well below 1:08s in race pace and is faster overall at Austria compared to modern machinery. The new cars are something special with ground effect, but the minimum weight for the cars needs to be lowered as does the size. The racing shows though, and it is clear that we are in the best era of F1 in a long time, and I hope the close field can be more competitive against the top teams to show how good the racing can really be.

Ralph was not driving at the limit, that is a historic car, so, he has to be careful and will not drive the wheels out of it. That is a pretty good lap, maybe at 90, 95% at times, just not overdoing it. Impressive for an old guy, he has not race on a F1 car in over a decade, and even though a race winner, Ralph was never competing for the championship, top 5 at his best, he was not the best but also he was not the slowest and could fight for a win. That was why he drove for so many teams (Jordan, Williams, Toyota) and did quite good.

The thing that stamds out to me when watching the old clips os the size of the cars and the cornering. Theyre so nimble becauae theyre not bogged down with this battery technology which, quite frankly, i dont care about in the slightest. Id rather see better racing by reducing overall weight. Plus you could actually hear the cars back then too
@zorkitipafed46262 ай бұрын
The issue is, weight reduction != better racing. Of course, some measures have already been taken to reduce team budgets. However, as we can see, this doesn't take away the problem of Formula 1 not being a mono series. Each team has a chance to build something breakthrough and dominate entire seasons as a consequence. Equal competition is not in the DNA of Formula 1. In some periods there were minutes between the leader and second place, in some they were separated by seconds, but there were almost no seasons without an unequivocal favorite. The only thing left to do is to watch how the guys behind them have fun, for the chances of a fight between them are much higher.

Oh, even the Minardis would destroy today's cars! Forget about the grooves, tire technology has developed so much that these cars would be way faster. It's like in road cars, tire development outpaces car development. Also, this car was in demo mode, higher ride height, soft suspension etc. Ralf last drove an F1 car over 15 years ago! 2000s F1 cars were rockets and the races were sprints, they would be pushing like mad every single lap. There were 3 stop races, it was like 60 qualy laps & you had to be supremely fit. You had to be a little mad to drive these cars on the limit, Ralf probably has 3-4 sec in reserve just from driving & fitness.

All BS here, the V10s had somewhere between 800 and 900 hp maybe the bmw had 920 in qualy in Monza 2004. The V10s had better power to weight by far and with full slicks they still would be faster than todays cars. What modern cars have in advantage is, slicks, DRS, better aero, better brakes, better chassis and shocks, and last but not least and what most people forget, it's not only that their combined power is 1050 hp, the V6turbo makes more torque than the V10 and combine that torque to the endless and full torque there from first seconds from the electric motors, it's about 3 or 4 times more the NewtonMeters that the V6turbohybrids make. So they have more torque and power everywhere, out of the corners and on the straights.
