Still playing my 1991 Seagull S6. It has held up great for over thirty years!

A couple things. The "Slim" is because it has a narrower nut than the standard ones. As for consistency, if you look up how Seagull guitars are made, there's a great video on how things are tested and put together to make them all sound the same. I have a spruce top Entourage and a cedar top Performer. LOVE them. I'm constantly having people come up at gigs asking what kind of a guitar I play because they sound so great.

I have an S6 and Maritime SWS cutaway and they’re both excellent. One thing that’s noteworthy about them is that they stay in tune really, really well. They use that narrow headstock and the strings are more inline with the tuners.

Yes, I like the headstock design too.

Just bought my first Seagull...the S6 Original...I've never been more impressed with a guitar. I've purchased some expensive USA made guitars, but they really didn't impress me save for a single Taylor. Even if you don't consider price...the Taylor isn't better than the Seagull sitting in my guitar rack. The Seagull is definitely throwing shade on my Takamine. Everything related to guitars is subjective of course...just my 2 cents.

To answer your question, yes, the wood used for the table also comes from Canada. Whether it's a solid cedar table or a solid spruce of Canadian wood. And the selection of wood is done very carefully.
@FlowforthInstruments3 жыл бұрын
I suspected that was the case. Thanks for the confirmation.
@stanh243 жыл бұрын
It’s called “slim” because it has the narrower nut, 43.7 mm, whereas the non-slim is 45 mm at the nut. I prefer the 45.

I bought a Seagull 12 string around 87-88, all acoustic. It was such a fantastic guitar. I ran into a rough spot and needed some cash and pawned it temporarily with full intentions of getting it back quickly. I went to pick it back up and someone had dropped an amp on it and broke the neck 😢 I never have found a 12 string that plays as good. I own a Breedlove Atlas 12 now that's very nice but still not as good. I also own a Seagull Entourage Black CW GT QI now and love it. They do make great guitars.

I just went to my local guitar store intent on buying a Taylor 114. Instead I bought a Seagull Coastline. It sounded better, the neck was better and playability was the same but I liked the wider nut on the Seagull. It was quicker and easier to tune than the taylor. It was also cheaper.

Godin, innovates a lot. Robert Godin explained all the R&D involved in the seagul. Nothing in a seagul is conventional. The shape is unique. The head stock and the tuners are made to keep in tune. The reason that they are cheaper and better than other brands is because they have woods in their backyard. Over the years, they have made great instruments like the multiact. Robert Godin is a great guy. His story is a story of old rags to riches. When he started to sell his guitars in the US, he often did not have enough gas to go home: sell or die. lol . Also he truly enjoys people playing and bringing joy to others with his instruments. Also even if those guitars are factory made, they are using some boutique methods to build them.

I just bought a Godin pre-Seagull called a Minstrel. Even way back then, they manufactured a good quality guitar. Funny part is, the logo on the headstock IS what eventually the logo for the Seagull line. This is my third Godin guitar (Seagull Entourage and Art & Luthier Wild Cherry are the other two). All are quality built and sound great.

I agree with you on everything you said here, man. I'm a fan of Godin guitars as well. As a matter of fact I just bought a used Seagull Entourage Q1T CW, the black one. I bought it online at Guitar Center for $ 350 USD, as a Xmas present for myself. I already have another acoustic-electric, which is the Taylor 110E, I also bought it used online for $ 550 USD. Comparing this two guitars, each one has their own voice and nice characters. And I decided, I'll just keep them both and let them grow old with me...it just makes my day everytime I play my Seagull, it's my unique way of happiness, so to speak...😊
@FlowforthInstruments3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, keep them both...!!! Great finds, both nice guitars with different voices. I probably set up a half dozen Seagulls last years, all really decent guitars. I don't come across Taylors as often because people hold onto them. Stay happy..

Godin makes them in Canada and they are quality guitars. Update 8/27/2021 : I got a used Seagull 'Entourage' with electronics. I am selling off my unmarked Oscar Schmidt dread with cutaway and electronics. The Seagull is a used one with case for $300 delivered. Bone bridge pins for about $12-15 fitted well do beat the plastic ones for tone and are much sturdier. Use a pin lifter to remove the pins when changing strings to NOT damage the bridge holes.

@@FlowforthInstruments I am curious about these guitars for more fusion based music ala Al Di Meola, do they like a low action? Can you play them above the 10th fret? I would like something like my old 1980s Ovation as far as playability.
@FlowforthInstruments2 жыл бұрын
@@toddwilliamson8557 Every player is different - but as someone like Al Di Meola plays scales and arpeggios at 100 mp/h he would want a nice low action. The action of a guitar has more to do with the set up rather than the brand or model. You could certainly play jazz-fusion on one of these Seagulls - but you might need it set up for optimal performance.

LOL. Yes, the depth of the body is my one complaint. I've had my SM6+spruce for over 20 years, and its still my go-to for finger picking, but... I don't know which one of us is getting fatter, but I know she's not as comfortable hold as she was when I was 22.

I like the Cedar, the spruce are nice but I'd rather have something D28 copyish in size. For "boomyness" the Seagull S6 is my favorite of all time so far, no price limit.
