Probably the best and most creative "through ball" passers to have ever existed the godfather of the LaCrouqita move and a big influence on the Legendary Iniesta. Alot of Spanish players this day even Carzola have been influenced by the way this man played and the style of a "spanish" playmaker

People dont realise that the recent boom of top quality attacking midfielders that that World cup winning Spanish team had, it was almost single handedly influenced by Laudrup. I'm a Messi fan but , Maybe , i think this man might just be the GREATEST PLAYMAKER in history. Laudrup is totally in top 5 now. He's super UNDERRATED and extremely elegant. He has the passing range of pirlo mixed with his brain and shooting , smooth dribbling skills , IQ and decision making of Iniesta , kaka's gliding on the pitch and ambidexterity , Xavi's through balls and Messi and Maradona's FINE DRIBBLING and ball control. Truly one of the GOATS of footballs

Laudrup would totally school players and dribble them with closed eyes . He would lob a pass from the outside of the foot while looking away. He just do things different than messi. I heard a story.. I don't know if it's true or not. But when Michael played for Real Madrid, he and his wife went out to dinner. Suddenly the King of Spain comes and sits at a table. After a couple of minutes he waves Michael over to his table. Michael politely accepts the invitation and they have a chat. By this time there were rumours that Michael was leaving Real Madrid. So King Juan Carlos says - So I hear you're leaving us. Michael says - Yes that is true. Juan Carlos replied - Guess I'll be the only king left in Spain.

A special/genious footballer does what others can't do, even trained professionals at the highest level. I have watched football for 35 years and I have never seen a greater passer of the ball than Michael Laudrup. He could anticipate plays 3-4 moves before anyone else and put in passes that broke the space-time continuum. There are no words to describe the flowing dance of football Laudrup orchestrated whenever he was on the pitch.

The Laudrup Bros were my biggest idols when I played (and still are) only to be surpassed by Maradona (who is untouchable and god tier). Loved your video it only lacks the Danish run in world cup 86 and 98. In both occassions they had a team that could have won the world cup. Though..... and I quote Michael Laudrup himself: "..We could beat every team in 86. But nobody could beat Maradona!" Lastly I want to mention how sympathetic the to brothers are. I have meet both players and the both times are special memories for me and a rare occasion where meeting your heroes only made them that more special to you... where more often than not your heroes disappoint.

Why do you keep mentioning how many goals he scored, as if he should be judged by that? He's main task was never to score goals. Number of assists would make more sense, even though that would also just play a small part of he's total value as a player.

Sad that Barcelona do not give him greater respect in their Hall of Fame. A disrespect to him for the championships he played a big role in. Easily the best passer of all time. There used to be a 90 minute compilation of just his passes. Even his worst through ball is better than many of passes of top attack midfielders today. Ozil, Iniesta, even Messi do not pass as well as Laudrup. He passes through players but with a soft touch which makes it easy for them to shoot or for first touch

No doubt the best player of the 90's. Period. Don't care he didn't win as much as other players. Doesn't change a bit about his massive talent. The Barca Dream Team Recipé: Goigoxtea give the ball to Pep. Pep pass to Laudrup. Few dribbles and touches to leave 4 Real Madrid midfielders behind like statues. Raise his eyes and see Stoichkov full speed in behind the defence. Deliver a perfectly timed killer thru ball. GOL!!! Kick Off -> Repeat with Romario next up to finish it...

So being Danish, I'm heavily biased. But. I think Laudrup is top 3 all-time footballers; a few short comings in the physical and defending departments, sure, but he literally changed football; with his vision, his deep passes, setting up team mates, creating something out of nothing, none had done what he did when he did it, and few can do it now. To me the quote from Alan Tate who played under Laudrup, as the coach, for Swansea: The he (Laudrup) was still the best player on the squad. At 48. 14 years retired. He was my football idol as a kid. Wild thing is, in '92, after the euro win for Denmark, I got to meet him. I played in the Brøndby club at the time (Brøndby was a real working class club, with multiple teams for ages 5 and up). I was 10 at the time and my team had just concluded our last training of the season, as kind of a "have a nice summer"-thing, right before the annual summer party for the whole club. When we got up to the clubhouse where we'd normally have french fries and a coke, we were treated to the majority of the '92 national squad (believe it was 9 past, and at that time current Brøndby players). We got to take penalty shots at Schmeichel and (can't remember who) dribbled around and made us realise how far we still had to go, if we wanted to become pro :'D Those guys were so frickin' awesome and down to earth.

Your perfect nr. 10, they don´t make them anymore. So many gifted players have come and gone in that position like f.ex. Pirlo, Zidane, Platini, Rui Costa and Puskas ... You have not mentioned Laudrup in the best era of danish football. The Euros 84` and the World Cup 86` and the World Cup 98 where he actually captained the team to a quarterfinal which was lost 3-2 to Brasil. Those were his glory days at national level. In his early days he played as a striker in a traditional 4-4-2 with fellow danish striker Preben Elkjaer, topscorer in Italy with Verona when they won their only ever scudetto title. The two of them made out a formidable duo, the best attacking duo at national level in Europe. They scored a total of 12 goals in the 8 qualifiers for WC 86. Elkjaer scoring cascades of goals and Laudrup the ever so elegant provider and scorer of quite a few goals himself. He played in a danish national team full of confident brilliant players from top clubs around Europe and he had no demands from the Danes who just simply adored him. See the 3-1 goal from the WC 86 where Laudrup outplays the entire Uruguayan backline and scores a brilliant goal in the 6-1 thrashing of the regarded outsiders for the title Uruguay. Denmark became favorites to win the title and everybody was talking about the modern genius Michael Laudrup. In Barcelona he was a number 10 or if you like a false number 9. And his passing was so outstanding that sometimes you would get the feeling that the whole Camp Nou didn't see the possibility of the pass before he made it. Taking out a whole defense with just one touch and delivering it with inch precision, masked to perfection. Never seen passing at that level before or since, simply the best at the masked pass. His stats for assists where through the roof. As you could see when he arrived at Real Madrid. Zamorano was not doing well as striker in Real scoring 11 goals in 93/94 season, then Laudrup arrives and in 94/95 season Zamorano became top scorer with 28 goals. Whether Slatan or Laudrup is the best Scandinavian is up for debate. In my biased view though being a dane there is no comparison. Laudrup was different class, he was a genius, he was a once in a lifetime experience with elegance, class, superior vision, brilliant technique. He was simply Wonderfull to watch and he inspired so many great players to follow like Iniesta and Guardiola. For me he is my all time favorite behind Zico, with Messi as number 3. Zidane was a great player but he didn't surprise all of us and inspire us the same way Laudrup did.
