I still remember how in my first ever playthrough of Pokemon White in like 2011 I caught myself a Venipede early on and after it evolved into Scolipede it just broke the game and became better than my starter. Somehow my 10 year old brain managed to realise that Swords Dance plus Megahorn is a good combo and I felt so smart for it.

Darumaka outclasses Tepig's evo line as a physical fire-type; and Petilil outclasses Snivy; especially if you evolve it in the 2-level window it has between Giga Drain as Petilil and Quiver Dance as Lilligant [Also the in-game trade one comes with a 100% chance of 31IV Sp.Atk]. The only one who dosen't get outclassed early in-game is Oshawott, and even then, Basculin gives it a solid run for it's money when it shows up [Basculin's Adaptability STAB is disgustingly powerful. I remember using it in USUM and Z-moves would oneshot Totems though Protect... that's 30% of the expected damage there] And Oshawott dosen't get outclassed simply due to lack of competition. Gyarados is post-game after all and Unova has a surprisingly small pool of Water-types.

My first playthrough I ditched my Pignite for a timburr and never looked back, it eventually became a solo challenge with a severely underleveled emolga providing the only backup I needed. I tore through the game never once considering the fact that I should probably get more pokemon until I got to the elite 4 and literally all the wild pokemon needed like 20 levels to be worth using, and my 12 year old attention span was not gonna do that. It was fun though.

So as bug type pokemons back then, they were useless. Gen 5 changed that by a lot, it brought a lot of good moves like Quiver Dance and X-Scissor and brought also a lot of good Bug-type pokemon like Scolipede, Volcarona and Genesect the first Mythical bug type pokemon

For all the Bug types they introduced in Gen 5, almost every single one of them were either monsters or at least above average. Leavanny is the weakest, but it's stats are undoubtedly better than filler trash bugs like Butterfree, Beautifly, Dustox, Kricketune, Mothim, etc. Along with Scolipede, there's Genesect, Volcarona, Accelgor, Galvantula, Crustle, Escavalier, Durant. Every single one of them is solid for an ingame playthrough, and a huge perecent of these have great designs as well.

Leavanny is a very useful Pokémon in single player. It has Razor leaf already when you catch it and learns Steamroller quickly. Later replaced wit X-scizzor. Leavanny evolves through happiness and with how fast bikes are and the long straight stretches of land in the bridges getting it up to it is easy. Butterfree also is useful very early but becomes outclassed usually before the 5th gym. Leavanny is more than strong enough to last you all the way to the league and even help you beat it.

Leavanny Is not the weakest, it had 490 base stats total and 500 in gen 6, that's way more than galvantula's The only thing holding leavanny Back it's His typing, but in single play it doesn't matter that much, leavanny can tank anything (even weaker fire and flying attacks like air cutter) and can OHKO a Lot lf things, it also gets Sword Dance and some nice coverage moves

Scolipede was one of my favorite mons to run in gen 6 singles. I was always playing around with wacky sets with it since speed boost + baton pass lends itself to a lot of creativity. I remember an Iron Defense passing set I used for a while which I'd use to pass to slow specially bulky mons with high power and sweep with pokemon you wouldn't think could. So much fun

I thrilled when I saw this on my recomended. I got into pokemon in gen 5 thanks to the Scolipede line's design. I literally just saw a Venipede card from the TCG that a kid in school had and I instantly clicked. Scolipede's been my favorite mon ever since.

Fun fact: Scolipede's height of 8'2" isn't some random big number. There was actually a real creature, scientific name Arthropleura armata, that was the exact same length (I'm assuming that Scolipede's height actually refers to its length, which seems to be the case with long Pokemon like Gyarados and Furret.) Consider yourself lucky that you don't live during the Carboniferous period, aka 330 million years ago, which was associated with significantly higher oxygen levels. These higher oxygen levels made it possible for arthropods, which breathe through holes in their exoskeletons, to be significantly larger. The maximum size of arthropods relates to atmospheric oxygen as bigger bodies require more oxygen and that need grows faster than the available surface area for respiration. With higher oxygen levels, the point at which the need for oxygen outgrows the ability to aquire it also gets higher.
