Tony had a lot of bad luck. If he had his fight with Khabib and won, I think things would have been different. Also, I agree with Kiiyon about that knee injury. I wish he would have taken more time to heal from it. He's such a beast that he fought six months after that surgery, which is crazy. Doing a double weight cut leading up to his Gaethje fight wasn't the best move, either.
@maxanderson37333 жыл бұрын
This is probably one of the biggest downsides to being a professional fighter. It doesn’t matter if you have god tier talent. Bad Luck and outside parties can still shoot your career in the knee caps
@calebfoster18323 жыл бұрын
Chandler was a highly decorated and long time Bellator champ before coming over and flatlining a top ranked guy, it wasn't like he was a nobody who got a title shot with one insignificant fight. Tony did get interim title and title shots multiple times throughout his career and was an interim champ, but his title shots with Khabib never panned out do to what can only be labeled really bad luck. It wasn't like he was blocked and kept out of the picture for title contention and never given opportunities by Dana. Those opportunities were given to him but taken through acts of God-type circumstances, not Dana holding him back.

Tony Ferguson the type of guy to go from slighlty overrated to criminally underrated within a year.
@crystalskunk36583 жыл бұрын
Idk if it was that he was that overrated but just people didn't actually understand what they were looking at and why Tony won all those fights or the toll it took on his body, especially the damage you take doing his style of wrestling. That's why Ben Askren and Cain Velasquez can barely walk and why Justin Gaethje never takes anyone down. Tony just pushed it harder than anyone else and it made him extremely dangerous but he had to pay a severe price and now it's catching up with him.
@lawrence43013 жыл бұрын
People are using the aged and horribly beaten version of him now to try and make weird claims on how bad he was historically. I don't know if he would have beat the version of Khabib that he was previously set up to fight at the time, but he would have done worlds better than current Tony would (and this isn't a knock on tony now, time beats us all)
@duh_istine3 жыл бұрын
And thats why mma fans are the worst
@louismorrison72073 жыл бұрын
He didn’t, he was always massively overrated by fans, he was great because all of his opponents went in there with the sole intention of finishing him and got over aggressive when they hurt/dropped him, gassing themselves out. As soon as someone like Gaethje with a smart game plan came in (picking his shots and slowing breaking him down) Tony had no answer to it. The game moved past him and the vast majority of his opponents aren’t even ranked anymore (other than dos anjos and Lee I believe). That being said he definitely deserved a title shot for his long winning streak
@mr.i65273 жыл бұрын
@@louismorrison7207 Saying that all of prime Tony's opponents "just went for the KO" is massivley simplifying things. RDA was literally just the champion just a year prior to Tony demolishing him. Yeah alot of his opponents aren't ranked anymore, so? Are we to hold that against GSP? No we wouldn't, we judge based on how good their competition was when they faced them (and Tony's happened to be pretty damn good). Gaethje beating him didn't "expose" Tony. He was 37, time caught up and the new generation was finally able to catch up to him. This is just what happens when you get old, it doesn't mean that Tony was overated.

I agree with your narrative totally! One reason I love the UFC is that from a win in TUF we watch these fighters grow in skills + their own personality's. From the time the fight is announced, if the fighter is one of your favorites, that's when the excitement builds right up to the night of the fight. We fans become as tight, following every interview etc, that we are like the fighter's second family. Tony Ferguson was amazing because of his overwhelming confidence in his abilities + his outspokenness! His fights have been some of the most exciting. And just because he lost his last 3 fights, to me, doesn't mean he's slowing down. He fought well in those fights + his opponents probably would have beaten other strong opponents. I look at it as not who won the fight but by which fighter fought the best. We all know how those scoring the fight can score the fights opposite to how the fans + commentators see it. So I hold Tony in the rank of the best of them. In short I think Tony Ferguson + your channel are both the best!

some Khabib and McGregor fans doesn't like Tony because of how Tony imposed a threat towards both without actually threatening them.

Tony is the BOAT. The Tony Ferguson that fought Anthony Pettis would have beat both Conor and Khabib of that time.

@@therealkiasu It would be worse than the Diaz fight because Tony is way faster and more creative than Nate offensively. Hits way harder too

Tony is the type of guy to half-retire to complete his 12 fight losing streak after a 12 fight win one.

Damn such an incredible video and you're right Kiiyon, a lot of people seem to have forgotten how much of a beast Tony was, one of the best lightweights of all time. He's my favorite fighter and you did him justice with this upload. Keep up the good work, glad I'm subscribed.

Tony’s hands belong on a 6’8 NBA bball player, anyone ever noticed the size of them paws?

Thank you for making this video to remind folks of they type of FIGHTER was/is. If it wasn't for politics the fans would've gotten Tony v. Khabib BUT at the end of the day Tony is still a legend.
