Grass can help your toddler learn HUNDREDS of words.
You don't need fancy toys, flashcards, or apps to help your toddler learn to talk.
Use things you already have around your house.
This video is an at-home toddler learning activity. I share how grass helps toddlers learn new vocabulary.
Hey! I’m Adrienne, Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist from LearnWithAdrienne.com and you want to help your child:
☀️communicate clearly
☀️listen well
☀️gain life skills
Speech and language strategies used in this video:
☀️verbal routines
☀️modeling
☀️labeling
☀️nouns, verbs, adjectives
☀️repetition
☀️sensory exploration
☀️joint attention
In my KZbin videos, I teach a variety of strategies to help children learn to talk, but in my online class for children, I teach much more in-depth, revealing the actual step-by-step system I use with my own speech therapy clients to get them from saying only a handful of words to talking in sentences and having conversations. My online class is structured with checklists and printouts where you can track your child's progress.
So zooming out, my KZbin videos teach the “what” and my online class teaches the “how.” The goal of the online class is to give you the skills needed to plug in the speech strategies into your daily life with your child and to implement the building blocks, strategies, and concepts during meal time, car riding time, play time, outdoor time, etc.
Here is more info about the class so you can see if it would be a good fit for what you are looking for with your child:
The Steps to Help Your Child Learn To Talk: www.learnwithadrienne.com/ste...
P.S. For safety, always fully supervise your child when doing activities that I recommend in my videos.
Video Description: How do I get my toddler to follow directions, to obey, to listen to me? In this video Adrienne, a Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist who works in Early Intervention, shares tips for getting toddlers to learn new vocabulary. Using simple toddler activities, parents, caregivers, teachers, and speech-language pathologists can learn how to help your toddler talk more and understand more language so that they can communicate better. These tips are helpful so that they will be prepared and ready for preschool, kindergarten, and life beyond the classroom. These tips are strategies for parents, caregivers, grandparents, babysitters, childcare professionals, and speech therapists that you can apply right away with your toddler. Strategies include: following directions, comprehension, repetition, colors, vocabulary expansion, verbal routines, and prepositions.

Yes. I plan on using them. My eldest (2yr and 8mo) is a little behind on speech. Anyhow, he understands, and is observant. So I describe everything! My youngest (22 months) has picked up many things, and is saying phrases.

I really liked this video. My son has always had an affinity for grass and nature but I forgot all the words that I could use to describe it. This really helped open my mind to what I can teach him. I keep buying stuff but it's not helping because I'm not describing or teaching to him. He's 3.5 now and has been screened for ST. He has the speech of a 1 year old and 7 months. This is very helpful. Thank you.

Hi Adrienne. Thanks for the extremely helpful videos. I don’t think that my baby who is a year old would sit and listen to so much language at once while holding any object. How do you suggest communicating this? In breaks or use only 1 quadrant one time or any other way? Thanks you

I want to ask bilingual questions. Since English is a second language for me, I think I can speak in Chinese with all the vivid and rich language in the four quadrants. But I am concerned about teaching my child in second language to describe the concept fully as you introduced. Should I insist on just my primary language or should I try both? Which choice would be more beneficial to my child?

When you do this with your kids, do you do all the steps on the same day? or do you take a few days/ weeks before you go to the next quadrant?

Hi! I’m glad you are enjoying my videos! Thanks for your question. It is concerning that your son is barely talking at his age. Does he seem frustrated with not being able to communicate? By 30 months, the average number of words that children say out loud is 450 words. I recommend looking into The Steps to Help Your Child Learn To Talk: www.learnwithadrienne.com/steps-to-help-your-child-learn-to-talk Hope that helps!

200-300 words at 24 months? Really?
@elenaklassen601
@elenaklassen601 4 жыл бұрын
Russian children are also supposed to say 200-300 words by 24 months. My children both used more than 800 words at this age but I was constantly teaching them. My son spoke 500 English words and 300 Russian words but he didn't use sentences until two months later. The daughter spoke in small sentences since she was 20 months old. However, I have observed many children who didn't speak much at the age of 2 but finished school with excellent marks. I think it is like walking: some start walking as early as 8 months old, others at 18 months but everyone learns to walk in the long run)

No worry if the child doesn't speak much but it is necessary to talk to her all the time, in simple sentences using gestures, as Adrienne shows, and everything will be alright!:)

Remember that "words" are also approximations. It doesn't need to be perfectly pronounced. If it is used in a meaningful way and in the right context, you can count as word.
