Great tips, Keltie! Long haul pilot here 👩🏽✈️ please don’t do any high intensity training the day you arrive after a long haul flight, that includes jogging and any other activity that gets your heart racing. It’s not uncommon for people experiencing cardiac arrests or similar issues when doing an intense workout after a long haul flight or long travelling day. Flying / long travels are not what our body’s were made for and it puts our body under a lot of stress, i.e the radiation, the jet lag, the dry air on board, the not so great meal options, etc etc. Unfortunately I just lost a colleague due to this exact situation a couple months back, and unfortunately still a lot of flying personnel and travellers underestimate the impact of it. I do recommend going for walks after flights! It helps a lot with jet lag and recovery of our bodies, also low impact workouts are fine (like yoga or easy pilates i.e.). Enjoy your summer and stay safe and HYDRATED ❤

I can’t imagine having to fly long-haul that often, so it’s impressive that you developed all these strategies! I’m thinking for my next overseas flight the main hack is going to be: use credit card points to get business class seats 😂 I had to take an emergency flight back home to the states from Germany once, funded by travel insurance so we got biz class flights. Never slept so well on a plane in my life.

If you're travelling from outside the US, two weeks before leaving, double check if you have your ESTA Visa. On the day of travel last year, my partners ESTA Visa application was lost, and we had to frantically apply for it ahead of time. Good thing I planned for us to get our family to the airport 5 hours before our flight. Apparently, it had happened to several people. I will be make sure he doesn't do that again. 🤦♀️🤷♂️😂 I found that making a checklist weeks in advance on my phone helps as I always added items to it. I started packing days before all the outfits and vacation essentials wanted/needed in case I missed something to give myself time to run to the shops to get it. It works to have it all planned out. On the day of leaving, I put on my flight socks, outfit that was laid out, and grabbed my packed bags.

My must-haves are spare underwear and travel sized toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, face wash and a travel toothbrush. I only bring a backpack as my carry-on luggage which I guess makes it a personal item, so I can't fit a lot outside of my devices, chargers, and meds. I always have those bc you dont know if you'll lose your checked luggage and I want to have something with me just in case. My jetlag cure is simply staying awake the day I arrive no matter how tired I am, then going to bed on their timezone. I don't sleep well or at all during flights, so I'm always exhausted, but that makes it a lot easier to switch my body clock bc I will be tired enough to fall asleep at 9-10pm UK/Sweden time. I am trying the sunlight trick now though. Jetlag is easy for me to get through, so I don't worry about it too much.

I was just talking with friends last night about my perfect method to avoid jet lag traveling east to west. Almost exactly your method, except I go go bed an hour early, wake an hour to 1.5 hr early for a couple of days until I'm on close to the right time zone, then maintain that until the last night before the flight at which time I try to make sure I don't get enough sleep so I'm tired enough to sleep on the plane the next day.
@kinseylise85954 ай бұрын
2:30 My body is a MACHINE at this fight lol. It'll make me nearly fall asleep standing from 5-6pm but by 9pm I'm wide awake. I was constantly bamboozled by this through high school and college and it made recovering from all nighters tough! Great advice regardless!

I get up and stretch (reeealllly stretch) in the little area next to the bathroom on the plane - helping make it less weird!! And I also sleep as soon as the place takes off, I actually wish planes had sleep zones : I know putting my seat down bothers the person behind me, but whhhhyyy are you taking the 9 o'clock meal on a 7 hour transatlantic? America to Europe switch is piece of cake actually just remain on America time the whole stay, you will still go to sleep at nighttime, 3-4AM isn't unreasonable time to go to bed, basically all throughout my college years I did that without even traveling, you get to catch up with the local nightlife as a bonus. East Asia is harder since you'd have to go to sleep during daytime which is torture

And I didn’t stay consistent with it throughout the year just summer and immediately lost the weight I had gained and now I’m back at it again this summer but I made it my goal to be consistent even through school I just wanna make sure I don’t have to worry 😅

Please don’t pack nuts to eat on a plane, since there might be a person with nut allergy that you could put in danger.
@KeltieOConnor4 ай бұрын
Oh my gosh SO TRUE! Thank you for that reminder, considering my brother had a deadly peanut allergy that should’ve occurred to me sooner 🤦🏼♀️ Lesson learned, the nuts are no longer for me 🫡
@monnmary4 ай бұрын
Wait, a smell of the nuts can cause an allergic reaction? Genuinely asking
@kinseylise85954 ай бұрын
@@monnmary From someone who got a little snippy with me in a different comment section, apparently nuts can trigger a complete reaction for a very small subset of the allergic population even though most are only allergic upon contact or ingestion. I always assumed everyone who was deadly allergic from the air would, you know, be dead from passing by a pb&j in a small room. Someone else also noted that while she didn't get anaphalaxis without contact, being very near to nuts in an enclosed space would make her throat itch and give an impending sense of doom (one of the symptoms of an allergic reaction, and also very unpleasant). That's probably more common than dying from someone bringing nuts into the same "airspace". I think the main consideration for not bringing nuts/nut products is that the plane may not always be wiped down thoroughly (especially small stains on fabric if you just spill a bit of peanut butter) so someone with a contact allergy could be harmed.
