Check out my thread here on this comment section of this video. Everyone is learning that the name of the language is Castellano and Íberoamerica is the region with most Iberians in the world. There are more castellano speaking Iberians with names like Ortiz, Jimenez, Gonzalez etcétera in Íberoamerica than there are in the Ibero peninsula. Saludos Iberos por el mundo y saludos Ibero Eliot un castellano hablante mas.

hi Elliot, just to let you know you may also have a kind of audience you didn't consider before. It's probably not huge, but let me discribe it to you. I'm a spanish national that had a similar adventure to yours, but I went the opposite route, I learnt the english language. Now I'm here in London, 12 years after I landed, it was only for one summer, and here I am, met my other half had a couple of wonderful kids. I like to watch your videos in english so I can see what you speak about my country. Happy to see you thrive in Spain, one day I'd love to go back, and honestly Malaga is one of the places I'd definitely go. Keep the good work up! ❤

As one of your earliest followers and when you mentioned the time when you started you tube is truly unbelievable. Where does the time go man. As I have been to my house in Spain a few times this year and to go back to Alicante again in November, I always find my Spanish always improves when I am there as necessity dictates that you have to know some Spanish. Supermercados are the typical example when you need to know more than you think either in reading or speaking. I have always thought that you are an inspiration to many and at least interesting to watch for others interested in Spanish culture and Spain in general. Sadly there are now so many rules and regulations on most things that it’s surprising that anyone anywhere does anything??? Always great video as always interesting and informative. I think I have been in Spain about 8 weeks this year not long enough in my opinion Well done as usual

I commend you on learning Spanish so fast. My girlfriend studied Spanish for many years, including her Rosetta Stone and Duoling app. All she says is Hola and Hablo poquito Espanol. Unbelievable! I can see the value that is worth towards a career back here in the States. Either A Spanish Teacher, Translator for the courts, or Social Services. If you run for office, you can receive the support of Hispanic-American constituents. The possibilities are endless. I have an associates in Media and now that I'm majoring in Political Science, I would like to mention your name and KZbin channel over the air because I volunteer at the radio station. So that others (students, Etc.) can have an influence in learning Spanish. 90.3 WHPC FM Garden City, NY (Nassau Community College Radio)

Me alegra escuchar a alguien decir que la inmersión es la mejor manera de aprender otro idioma. I’m older than Elliot but everything he’s saying is facts. I’ve been traveling to Spanish speaking countries since 1996 but I could pick it up or if I did it was basic. Once, I developed that desire & dedication factor…no lie, my brain 🧠 got rewired. In fact, the way I learnt Spanish was not by going to classes but by interacting in the streets and listening and then by asking questions. Obviously, you need the basics of grammar + form + structure of sentences but being immersed in those countries for a long period of time will make you fluent in no time…why? Because you have no choice.

I totally agree that if a nonspeaking Spanish person falls in love with a Spanish person who doesn't speak English, one will learn it immediately. Also being dropped off in the middle of nowhere in a Spanish place, one would most likely pick it up faster due to survival instincts. Keep that radio station on and listen to Cardi B, Shakira, Bad Bunny, and all other Spanish artists that are in style in the American Pop Scene. Keep those soap operas on TV and don't change the channel. Especially if the soap operas contain beautiful women!

Once my Spanish is good enough, gonna read through the books and use them to further my Spanish. Not interested in going to any form of school to learn language, my experience have been that school is one of the worst ways of learning a language.

.. Just my two cents on being "fluent" in any language and I am well aware being fluent does not mean you speak the language flawlessly but more so you can speak it without hesitation and engage in any depth of conversation on a wide wide variety of subjects....Being able to maintain a conversation high velocity does not constitute "Master or expert" ... If you think you're a master or an expert in a given language you should be able to without question, (for example in English) go any English speaking country in the world from Scotland to the Southern US to South Africa and you will be able to communicate and understand without any major problems... I guarantee you if you came here to Medellin, an eavesdropped on taxi drivers chatting on the corner or try to speak with them you would stumble and fall my friend.... so I don't want to break your bubble but I think you should be a bit more humble when it comes to language abilities and rating yourself as "expert or master" .... Just my two cents.. By the way I speak "fluent" Spanish as well as native level German, however I would never call myself an expert...

Spanish language doesn't exist. It's called castellano. Just ask any Catalán, Gallego, Valenciano, Aragonés, Basque what the national language of the Kingdom of Spain is. They will tell you it's castellano. Only the castellano región calls the national language Spanish because it's a for of supremacy that's been around since Franco forced everyone to speak Castellano and call it Spanish to diminish the other tribes of Spain. Espanol no existe. El idioma se llama castellano. Saludos Ibero Eliot

I'm sorry but I understand you have no idea what you're talking about. I call it Spanish because I'm from Málaga and to me castellano is the Spanish spoken in Castile (central part of Spain). I don't care what Franco wanted to call it or his intentions behind it. I only call what I speak "Castilian" when referring to my mother language while talking to someone from a Catalan, Galician or Basque regions because it makes more sense to me in that context, not because they hate the word Spanish. I understand Catalans or Basque or whatever call it Castilian but it doesn't make any sense that I call it that way and I don't call it Castilian but Spanish. Also, the institution taking care of the grammar and the good health of this language is the RAE. "Real academia española", meaning Royal Spanish Academy. Not Castilian, but Spanish.

@@Juan_Dystopian Institutions are run by oligarchs that's why. So of course they would call it incorrectly. The language is called castellano. My family is from Argentina and even we know that there is no such thing as any language called Spanish. RAE is subordinate to the English monarchs that's why they say Spanish instead of the correct name which is castellano.

@@Mongoose-ct6us Every normal person in Latin America and the rest of the world calls it Spanish. Academicians make more those distinctions. It's pretty clear Basque isn't Spanish though for example. I am from Switzerland and yes Swiss German is different than German, but I tell people to whomever abroad that this is German, is just a more meta simpler way of speaking with normal people. But yeah it's Castellano, but evry person that use the word castellano were usually super critical of my language skils when they most of the times themselves only speak 1 or 2 languages.

Latin se fue a Espana se transformó en espanol y se fue a los Americas. Latin refers to the language family and therefore the areas where it is spoken, including Latin America. English is primarily Germanic, so more in the past USA is not a latin country and is germanic country, not only regarding the language but also the culture. Nowadays we can argue USA is more and more a latin american country with immigration. And similarly for countries south of the USA, Spaniards mixed with people and therefore mestizos the largest ethnic group is actually partially Spaniard. Additionally to that they speak Spanish in majority (or Portuguese for the matter). So Latin America has lots of cultural roots that go all the way to Rome and which distinct it a lot from the USA. Latin America, and thefore Latinos is a term mostly used by contrast to the predominantly Germanic culture of the USA. It's an Americas perspective, not a European one. But Spaniards get really offended to be put in the same basket as Latin America, instead of being seen as Europeans, but well that's normal everyone have their bias depending on where they live and those perspectives are not entirely wrong, Spain does share a culture with parts of the Americas and should be happy the Americas is making Spanish a very important language on the world scale. And unlike Britain which lost its cultural inspiration to the USA, Spain is still very much leading the Spanish-speaking cultural influence ahead of Mexico for example.
