You're spot on about the Smith machine! This one's a bonus but I have epilepsy so I can't do freeweight exercises like a bench press, thankfully certain machines like the Smith saved my life when I had a seizure in a gym while my dad spotted me. In case someone has a condition and sees this: don't let yourself feel defined by a setback, but by your ability to aspire to your potential!
@Newcomer774 ай бұрын
Bro free weight bench press is better because of shoulder stability Also it can still add to increase of injury risk and it gives you a false sense of how much strength you have you can smith machine bench press 315 but on a free weight it’s probably 255. And it doesn’t mimic everyday activities and it could end up hurting you in the future. And all because you didn’t die and it “saved your life” doesn’t mean it’s a good exercise

@closinginonclosure4 ай бұрын
Eh, I wouldn't be so sure. For example 2:32 he goes on about doing partial reps "past failure" which makes no sense. That's an impossibility if you're actually at failure. Genuine failure means you can't do another rep of any kind, so "past failure" can't exist of you're doing it right. Mike knows that. Also 0:53 He says he got 3 additional high quality reps. They definitely weren't high quality. You can't see his form is horrible and he's using every possible muscle outside of the target muscles to complete the rep. Dr. Mike would tell him he's done when he can't do another rep with excellent technique and proper form.

Chest Building Overview: Many people have well-developed shoulders and arms but lack chest development. The goal is to achieve a well-rounded chest that appears robust and muscular. Smith Machine: The Smith machine allows for safer, closer-to-failure reps. It helps maintain tension on the chest muscles, leading to more effective growth. Mixing up the angles (incline and flat) is essential for comprehensive chest development. Avoid Pre-Exhausting: Pre-exhausting the chest with isolation exercises before compound movements (like bench press) is generally unnecessary. Focus on getting stronger on main compound movements for better chest growth. Partial Reps Past Failure: When you can no longer complete full reps, continue with partial reps to further stress the chest muscles. This method should be used sparingly, not on every set. Use Machines: Machines allow for better focus on rep quality and range of motion without worrying about stabilization. Position the machine handles correctly to optimize chest engagement. Pause Reps: Pausing during reps increases time under tension, crucial for chest growth. Focus on the stretch position and control the movement for maximum effectiveness. Deep Range of Motion: Aim for a deep stretch in exercises to maximize chest engagement. Using tools like a cambered bar or deep dumbbell presses can enhance the range of motion. Chest Positioning: During pressing movements, focus on lifting your chest towards the ceiling to enhance muscle engagement. Proper form and mental focus during exercises are crucial. Complementary Tricep Training: Strong triceps contribute to better pressing strength and overall chest development. Include tricep exercises like pushdowns and overhead extensions in your routine. Programming: Spread chest training across two days a week for better results rather than one intense session. Balance between incline and flat movements, along with accessory exercises like flies or dips. Bonus: Chicken Breast Recipe: A recipe for juicy and flavorful chicken breasts, including brining, seasoning, and using mayo and breadcrumbs for added moisture and flavor. Cooking details: Bake at 425°F for 25 minutes. Overall, the tips aim to build a fuller chest through varied exercises, focusing on technique, and ensuring good recovery and complementary muscle training.

I know this advice worked because in the words of my girlfriend (it's weird seeing you with an actual chest cause I've known you for 12 years and you've never looked like that) Additionally, I've lost 300lbs of body fat and managed to stay natural due to influencers like yourself, and that's not a joke or a troll

I grew my chest by simply increasing the frequency, focussing on bench press 3x per week. With 1 day of rest between sessions and 2 days after the third session. - Day 1: low weight bench press 8-10 reps, incline dumbell press, machine press, flys and dips, rope pulls for triceps as extra - Day 2: medium weight bench 5 reps, after that slow rep bench 5 reps with pause at lowest point, then lighter weight incline bench 5 reps to finish the chest. After that shoulders overhead press and lateral raises. - Day 3: heavy weight 3 reps, but only one chest exercise, focus on triceps: close grip bench, skull crushers and tricep pushdowns. Start with 2-3 sets to let your body adjust to the amount of volume, then up the sets every week and then up the weight ever so slightly every week. This increased my strength significantly and great gave me great chest growth, and I didn’t even go to failure in every session.

My workout regime has "evolved" over the years of my training journey. :3 I started off using only machines, but then once I got to a better gym, I started using free-weights. Then my training went from being there for at least 1-2hrs a day, twice a day, to once a day for a minimum of an hour. I got good resulsts, but this all was in the span of 1-2 years. Then as I gained more information through study and my mother (who is a gym rat), I started to shake things up with a better split; and my mother helped me get past some food insecurities I had due to growing up obese. Then I started using different methods for reps; 8-12 reps, sometimes more depending on if I wanted to use a number generator, which helped me get gains. And again, started changing things to where my friend and I would match reps to push each other. Finally, I started to realize that it's not the amount of time I'm in the gym, but my intensity. I can be there for 40min now and leave satisied, knowing I pushed my hardest. I'm almost always sore now from my sessions.

One extra tip I would like to add that helped my lagging chest grow. As will mentioned, in pressing movements other muscles can take over, namely the triceps and front delt. The relative contribution of each of these muscles can depend on the resistance profile of the exercise (when it’s the most difficult). Ones that are harder at lockout (I’m looking at you hammer strength plate loaded) bias the front delt and triceps. Ones that have a more even resistance, like the Nautilus Leverage machine, are MUCH better for the chest. If you must, only stick to the bottom half of the movement where the chest has the best leverage and get that tension. Hope this helps!’

Hey Will, do you sell workouts plans? I like your approach to lifting and cutting out a lot of the nonsense.

Compound barbell bench press Activate shoulders/triceps/forearms/lats/core/chest pre-exhaust isolation exercise, target the chest more specific and activate the chest Improves the mind muscle connection, Goal specific: 1) if you're a classic bodybuilder and you want the sculpt build a good chest and struggling to build a chest Pre-exhaust is a good idea to introduce to your training 2) modern day bodybuilder, goal is to lift as much weight using the biggest exercise what gives you the best ego first then finishing off with isolation exercises
