Looks great! Just a suggestion from someone who also does railway modelling, when you are ballasting the track, take a makeup brush and sweep the ballast until it settles between the sleepers. Most real railways don't have ballast on the sleepers, and I've found that using a small amount of ballast and then brushing it into place makes for a nice, clean track bed. Just my suggestion, the layout still looks great though!

I’m still offended that, as a Home Depot Associate, you went to a Lowe’s to get the board for the layout. @Mike__B Жыл бұрын
@@ToastTheThe Closer maybe, but depends where he lives as a 2-3 mile drive could take well over 30 minutes one way, hopping on the freeway and hitting up the Home Depot right off the freeway may be much more convenient (and in a way less sketchy neighborhood) ... plus you can always swing by In & Out and get a burger!

A ballasting tip from a fellow model railroader. Your best friend for ballasting is a 1" foam brush. With the brush you can level off the ballast from off the ties/sleepers. Plus the beveled edge is about the perfect angle for the slope of the ballast. Thank you for inspiring me to continue work on my Little Western layout. The benchwork, lighting, and backdrop are done. And I am now in the process of laying down the cork roadbed. Hope to soon start laying track. Keep up all of the hard work reuploading these videos. KZbin can be such a pain at times.

A bit more than a decade ago my dad started making his own. One of the most fun things about it as a non-builder (apart from occasionally giving trains a ride) is slowly seeing it progress over the years into a better railway. He recently took out the middle station of the three, something that had remained from pretty much the beginning. It was just a basic track layout so that he knew where everything led, and to just first get the entire whole running. But now seeing it get actual station details like ballast and signage is such a beautiful difference. In such a way am I excited to see how yours will look in a few years

This video gave me enough inspiration to create a layout for a lifetime. I feel like I'm setting myself up for disaster though, your realistic takes on the RWS locomotives really inspired me to make my own. At the same time I'd like my layout to take inspiration from my local scenery and having a whole fleet of UK locomotives surrounded Australian rolling stock, flora, fauna and architecture doesn't sound visually pleasing lol Now I'm stuck between "UK inspired layout fitting for realistic Railway Series locos with the odd Australian rolling stock" or "Australian inspired layout fitting for the Australian rolling stock with really out of place UK locomotives" I have yet to find a good "middle ground" for this dilemma and worst is I can't even move on to the actual track plan phase as both countries differ in that area too, meaning depending on which I choose the I feel the track layout will differ greatly.. send help, all I wanted to do was build a model railway and I've unintentionally backed myself into a corner of procrastination and indecision
@nathanw7114 Жыл бұрын
If you do want to run your UK stuff, there isn’t any harm with a little “modellers licence” in both track and stock (it is your layout after all, you could try and have it split; there’s the potential for some interesting and prototypical scenarios) Or you could look to real life and try going down the middle and making up some stuff of your own (if you look at what the museum at Thirlmere does with their own interpretations of these characters I feel there’s plenty of scope for originality, Thomas lore notwithstanding..)
