other resources: whisper, more specifically whisperx for timestamped transcription of your video ffmpeg has a detect silence command on audio (although this won't cut your video) programs that do this are timebolt (too expensive), recut (reasonable), jumpcutter (by carykh - stupid cheap) if you want to read my writeup and try out some python you can modify that can be found here: www.cgmatter.com/member/how-i-edit-fast

A little confused cause you said Timebolt is $70 a month in the video but it's currently $17 a month which is only $3 more than Recut. Was it more expensive before? I got the $17 subscription a while ago so I just wanted to make sure you knew if they did reduce the price.

Wtf??? I have a self-developed program that does something similar for automating rough cuts when I used to edit for another channel. It creates metadata files for Premiere Pro so that the cuts are non-destructive, which tell the program where to remove silence, and it also switches it from the mkv container to the mp4 container without reencoding. It's also designed to process entire folders of clips at once. Neat to see other people with a similar workflow!!

Apparently some people were interested enough to like this, so: It is written in Go and uses the WyattBlue/auto-editor project on GitHub and ffmpeg, with multiple goroutines to process in parallel. I had to add a workaround to correctly name the clips in the output metadata xml, because auto-editor wasn't working correctly to do it.

release? 🥺

Unfortunately, a release isn't really viable. It's rough around the edges and specific to my own workflow, and I also don't have the ability to sign my own software since I only do this as a hobby

This is sick! Love that you did this without opening a traditional NLE. But for dummies like myself, I appreciate recut for its GUI. Been using it for a while now and for my courses which have a lot of video lessons, it helped a ton.

Woah, this is exactly what I needed, thanks! Just spent about 30 min just cutting the silence
@BintrMagMorganorts3 ай бұрын
Hello, the silence cutting is good but I'd encourage you to leave your voice at regular playback speed, I've been watching less lately as I find the sped up tutorials very grating. If people want to slightly speed up a video, KZbin has playback speed options for them. Been watching for years, thanks for sharing so much knowledge.

So, obvious question: how good is Blender's video editor for this kind of workflow? It already has python scripting, could you turn this into a plug-in?

I find both of the methods you use are a bit excessive. I'm fine with smaller gaps (less cuts) and normal playback speed, which would result in 1-5 minutes longer videos. You can always speed up (but not down, at least not without a noticeable quality loss) a video on the KZbin player if it's too slow for your pace. I use the left/right arrows though for skipping parts, not speeding up the whole video.
