When I was 38 I bought my very first car, period, and shipped it back to Ireland. It was a 68 fastback mustang and it was in bad shape. I had never worked on a car before but like you, over the next 7 years as time and money would allow I built my BULLITT clone. I have that car 20 years now. I got married late, built a house etc . When things went south here with the banks I lost my good job but I have managed to hold onto the house and the mustang. It hasn’t moved out of the garage for the past six years but it’s there. Not a show car, a driver that needs improvement but hey, it’s all good. Found your channel by accident but I love it and your work. Inspirational. Keep up the good work my friend. Declan

I like your story. So much I'll share in the wealth as the old saying goes. I ran across a 1967 mustang. It's in great shape overall for what it is. Somebody to fix it up and then wrecked it on the front right passenger corner. It is not a fastback. I was looking at it for a parts car for a 66 mustang but there's a lot of stuff that doesn't interchange. Reply back to my comment if there's anything you think that will fit from this 289 v8 car onto your 6-8 fastback. I'm not talking about giving it away for free but close enough. You of course you pay shipping. I don't know how many of these cars over there in Ireland. Plus here in the middle of the United States in one weekend I looked at over 600 cars between three locations within an hour of each other. Fella could build a 68 mustang by providing parts to his countrymen. Keeping the Spirit alive that this man did with his 57 Chevy trucks

Love your story. It reminded me of when I was building my car back in the early 80’s. I started out with a 57 short bed when I was 16. Sold that and bought a 57 2 door post sedan. Drove all over the country looking for parts. There was no internet or anything back then. You just had to look and knock on doors. I still have the car and it is still cherry. I doubt if I ever sell it. The kids can fight over it when I’m gone!!

So I'm sitting here flipping through the tube and run across your video. After a while my wife heard me laughing and "that's rightin" and she got to watching with me. You had us both laughing our ass off at the fact that you are just like me and us as far as that, from the house situation, selling your baby to get the house and losing the house and missing your ride. I'm more of the 60-66 C10 but the situation is identical! We really enjoyed your way and way of explaining things. Paramedic ie: Panoramic and I actually understood. Lol. Reminds me of my first purchase. Took my Mom to her friends house. Of course we got lost and I saw a 1970 Nova sitting on a corner lot. I walked up and knocked on the door and asked if it was for sale. The Lady called her son and same thing he asked me what its worth. I offered him $75 bucks. Exchanged information and met up with him later that day. Title in hand and my older brother helped me tow it home. straight 6 with 3 on the tree and it smoked like no tomorrow after i got it started. I was in my mid 20's and regret selling her.

Good story...from a fellow tri five addict! My first Chevy was a 59 Apache Fleetside truck that I bought in 1962 while in high school. Chrome bumpers grille and hubcaps...had 3000 miles on the odometer...nicest truck in our county..LOL Followed it through 3 owners after I sold it and ultimately ended up in a carport with a rotting tarp covering it. When my son was in highschool taking auto shop I tried to buy it but no deal. Sat neglected for another 20 years and finally dissapeared for good...the last owner had passed away...

When I bought me 1972 GMC SUBURBAN 3 door, everyone thought I was crazy because it needed so much work done to it. I made a long list of everything that needed to be done. Little by little I got each thing on my list scratched off. After getting it running and stopping right body work was last on my list. I did body work everywhere in the park out on the side walk, in the drive way until it was ready for some good primer that was my big mistake if you primer it your going to have to take that primer off it will be inbeded with dirt in the primer if you drive it around in primer it's best to put cheap paint on it. I drove it around in primer for a few year's. I had to sand that primer off to reprimer it for paint all in one weekend it was like sanding a boat by my self. Took it in to get painted the Monday got my suburban back 3 days later let it set for a week then put it back together with brand new chrome bumpers and light's. It didn't have to much chrome to put back on.

I live in Toronto and prices for tri fives aren't cheap here in Canada but oh the deals on tri five Pontiacs, Buicks, etc are so much lower and it's got to be similar in the States, no? Man, I'd be more than happy with a '55 or '56 Pontiac that with the money saved can build a cool street rod. It's funny, I never used to even look at tri five Pontiacs, Buicks, Olds, etc for decades but now I think I would be inclined to NOT buy a tri five Chevy to build because the others are more rare and of course the savings. Thanks for video bud 👍

Good show! I like your views and style as driving them. I like Chevy's but my search was for a '56 Ford F-100. I loved the big front end! Big window models are very scarce and when I got info. on one of those, I checked it out. It was in the old, Spanish speaking part of El Paso. This was in 2000 and was junky but running. I finally bought it in 2007 after wanting it all those years. I affectionately named it "The 7 year itch". I'm blessed and amazed that all that time nobody else saw the value of that model and could have beat me to it. Possibly because it was in the backwards part of town. I've gotten many offers for it but this is a keeper⚠️

@@Tri5Club I know what you mean. I know a guy that has had a Pinto wagon for 35 years and hasn't done anything to it excepts let his dogs live and tear the seats. At 75 and suffering two strokes, he still says "I'm gonna rebuild it". Sometimes this is an indication that they WILL sell but are waiting for an enormous offer! Good luck, Pal.

HowDoTim, I'm very intrigued with your story. It surely brought back a lot of memories of my first truck that I got running at the age 12yrs old just before my 13th birthday. It was a early 1955 Chevy 3/4 ton tow truck with the tow boom removed.I drove it in the back yard with no brakes for a couple of months, but learned the hard way after I side swiped a VW bus on the passenger side door. Also never use a12 volt battery on a 6volt system as well, especially later I figured it out that blew an inline fuse🙄 long after. We had another 55 GMC 1ton flat bed I also got running back in 1981 when I was 15yrs old as well, it had a 327 ci in her . It smoked like a bomb when I fired her up,only learned the hard way again,by adding 2qrts of used 50w racing oil that was giving to me ( 7qrts)in a apple cider jug, man she smoked up the whole yard .that was very imbarrasing?🙄 Seven qrts , instead of five qrts ooopppsss?????? Heavy lessons learned, but only just the beginning 😁.I 've got so many stories to tell my friend,I've had a lot of fun building hot rods, racecars and trucks as well.Keep the climb going my friend, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your progress on those tri-five. Indefinitely; you got set of keepers and Good Luck 🌟🌟🌟🌟.R.C.✌️

I admire that you maintain a can-do attitude. My hobby is like yours and bringing old cars and trucks back to life is a different sanctuary and emotional rush. I do disagree with you on one thing. If others like your builds enough to buy them then you do quality work. I know what it is like to go to the pick and pull superstores (salvage yards) and match fit builds. LOL. I am working on a 52 five window that I put on an S10 frame, a 65 C10 and on deck is my 57 truck (small window), my 67 mercury cougar (will be a 390 build) and a 66 ford galaxy. Although that is a lot going on, working on these cars is a stress relief and I have met some amazing people through my love for vehicles. I have been in this hobby since I was 14 and bought my first 67 cougar which I still own and now at 56 I wouldn't change a thing. Keep doing it man, keep doing it.

Over 20 years ago I went looking for a 58 or 59 just because the cab was the same as the tri-5 but cost less. Got a running 1958 truck for $1,300, big window, inline 6, short bed stepside. Did most of the work myself, learned buy watching truck shows on TV and youtube. Can drive it anywhere and I also bought a 66 a little over a year ago and now working on it.

I've been building cars and motorcycles most of my life and flipping classic cars for the last 2 and half years and the first thing I tell someone who's looking for a car to either fix up and drive or to flip and don't have much money is "find you a car/truck that not everyone wants". Instead of spending 10 k on a 72 Chevelle roller go find you a 73 or 74 Chevelle that you can buy for $500 that you can drive home, 1st it's going to be cheaper and 2nd most of the "off year" cars are still running and driving. My first flip car was a 67 Ford Falcon, I paid like $600 put another $1000-$1500 into it and sold it for 7k, My present car is a 73 Buick Regal, I paid $1200 for it and drove it 50 miles home, I'm keeping this one though because it was in such good shape, the interior looked brand new minus the carpet and headliner which both needed replaced and the body had alot of patina on it, not rust other than surface rust and faded paint. So far I've rebuilt/repainted the engine and transmission, repainted the engine bay, cleaned and repainted the frame, put all new bushings and bearings on the suspension, put another headliner in it, went to a carpet outlet and bought a couple of carpet remnants for the new carpet and cleaned and sprayed some bedliner in the trunk floor, I bought some IROC wheels from my next door neighbor for $50 for the set of 4 and sandblasted and repainted them, put new tires on it. I'm getting ready to repaint the car, which brings me to another tip that I learned.... when painting a project and you don't have alot of money go to your local paint supply company and see what they have already mixed up and was a miss-mix, I was originally going to repaint my Regal the factory poly green but I got a REALLY good deal on a gallon of miss-mixed 1993 Mercedes Medium Pewter for $25 just to get rid of it, and that saved me even more money because I now I'm not putting a landau vinyl top back on, saving a couple hundred bucks but now I have to dye my interior black now but even with that it's still saving money because I did it before I replaced the headliner and carpet so I just did them black. I'm also not going to rechrome anything, I'm painting the grille body color and the chrome around the windows and Bumpers will be black. I haven't sat down and done a complete price break down on my Regal but I KNOW I haven't put $3,000 into it and that includes the $1200 purchase price. I will say in all honesty that my Regal was in alot better shape than the usual "project car". My next project to flip is a 75 Torino, I do alot of mid-late 70's cars simply because of the price of half way decent projects I can get into, sure you sometimes get lucky with older or more popular cars but that's few and far between, I paid $900 for the Torino and drove it home and really all it needs to be a good daily driver is a decent paint job. I'm going to spend a couple days to a week prettying it up and slapping a decent paint job on it totaling $500 and get 6-7k for it as a daily driver.
