Fixed mine over the weekend. A couple of things, the space is tight, the actual part to repair is small I just used a cut off from a wire coathanger. It is possible for the "male" part to come out, it is on a hinge, so don't panic like I did thinking it's not the same, you just need to realign it back in, other wise it is pretty simple. Many thanks Mario !!! (Now to fix the Window slider which broke this morning).

Thanks a million for putting this up! I just fixed my Dads C240 with the same fix. A bit difficult to get under there to see, as I am 6'4" . Had to also fit a washer behind the clip I had to create. Works perfectly now.

I think this video is perfect as-is. We ALL seem to have somehow been able to accomplish the task right?? Thank you for the video, it helped me out greatly, my first thought was "cotter pin" when I discovered what had happened on my 2003 C230 Sport Coupe, but wanted to see what other people had done first. Amazing! On a side note: pretty ridiculous how this mechanism is constructed isn't it?? It could have been made MUCH better than this. Shake my head.

The key word you're using is "somehow", which tells me precisely you had to basically figure it out by yourself, what actually went wrong and how to fix it.

Just did mine. It took me about 30 min cause I couldn’t find a R shape cotton pin to lock it in place. Thanks for the video fam 💪🏿💪🏿
@krisw76254 ай бұрын
Thank you guys for all these comments! Extremely helpful. I had to fish around to find the post, get it in place, and then move the handle forward to engage the post in the little hole. Then I used a zip tie to lock it in place, but a cotterpin would be the easiest. But who has a cotterpin lying around? I used the light and selfie setting to get a lot of it done, but mostly just did all of it by feel. Just a huge thank you to ALL OF YOU!
@soupisfree7 жыл бұрын
Alright let me clear up a few things, just did this to a 2003 C230. it a T20 and you remove the 3 screws he pointed to in order to mover the trim piece out of the way as shown. You don't need to remove it completely. once you move thatout of the way you're going to want to use a cell phone with the selfie veiw or a mirror and a light to see what your doing. I used a cell phone, set it to selfie mode and i had i light source. the the opposite end of the locking handle is where you want to put your mirror or cell phone, push and pull it and you should see something like in the video. to find the rod you might need to just feel around for it, thats what i did. Once you slide the rod back through the hole like in the video you can then put a clip through the center of the black rod near the end like in the video. i ended up modifying a coder pin for this. if you notice that the locking leaver under the wheel pops out of place just prett it in a bit harder and it should be fine.

It worked! Tip: You've got to have an excellent sense of feel or wedge yourself under the steering column on your back with a light. Also move the lever up and down to make sure the placement is correct. There's also a metal cylinder that fits in there which has popped off. Star screwdriver size: T25

Good video, definitely an easy fix if you can stand on your head! In my case the plastic rod had completely slipped out, so it was a matter of finding it and sliding it back on the lock. I used a small screw to keep it from sliding off again, but anything that holds it in place will work.

I had same problem - when you lie on your back facing up with the panel off, look toward the steering wheel. move the adjuster around to find the piece you are looking for, the 'part' that goes through the middle is resting on the unremoved dash part if that makes sense. You have to lift it up and put it through the middle.

If you have the original spring and plastic part, you can reinsert it back onto the metal rod then add a fastener in where the original one broke. Just slip the spring over the plastic part and place over the metal rod. You would then have all the features for the telescope steering column

The selfie mode on my iPhone along with a small flashlight tucked into that area really helped with seeing where and what to do including getting the shaft back into the receiving hole. I broke the tip while trying to use a cotter pin so there was no hole anymore. Solution???? I used a grey wire nut, which threaded onto the remaining shaft cross-section PERFECTLY!!! Thank you Supah_Mario for the video (I just ran it at 1.75 speed) and the commenter @soupisfree regarding the selfie and light aspect!!!!

It worked! Perfectly! Thank you so much. Yes the music is annoying. Yes the close ups seem to last FOREVER. But it works. Helpful tips: 1. I used a key ring ...ring. (I didn't have one of those pins.) I did bend the start bit so it was easier to get on. 2. It really doesn't seem like there's a hole there, because much of it is a slot with no hole. 3. The centre bit had fallen out and down on mine. It was easy to locate and reinsert.

My problem seems to be removing the black cover in the first place. I can do everything in the video, but I still have the black plastic flexible rod that runs from inside the car to the orange hood opening latch under the dash, and I do not see a way to disconnect it. In the video (2:40) he runs his hands around the hood opening latch, but he never does anything with it. You can see that after he removes the electrical connector, the black cover is still not completely off, but then the video skips to the actual tilt adjustment mechanism and doesn't show how he disconnected the hood latch rod. Since I can't feel the metal rod that goes through the mechanism (it's like the adjuster is just sliding in space, not connected to anything), I'm going to have to be able to see it to make it work. I have a 2006 C280. If anyone has a tip for disconnecting the hood latch rod so I can remove the black cover, I would appreciate it.

Hi Derrick you need to move the steering wheel all the way upward and move the drivers seat all the way back. You also need a flashlight and be careful with your back it's a tight fit but you can get it done.
