I felt every single word of what you said. It's so frustrating to hear people tell you what to do with your body, or give their unsolicited, dumb diet tips (like "drink apple cider vinegar and you'll never be fat" LOL like bish whet) Not sure if this is helpful, but one thing I will say that worked for me is going low carb and cutting my portions significantly. It takes a while to get used to, but it has been the biggest game changer for me. In 1 month of going low carb I lost 12 lbs, and I'm sure you know 12 lbs might not be much, but for someone PCOS its a lot considering how hard it is to lose even a lb w pcos.

I talked to another women who had weight gain and we both had the same story. To loose weight we had to work out Constantly and hardly eat..her lowest weight was 175 lbs she is in the 300's now. my lower weight ever was 130 I'm currently 197lbs. It gets worse as you age. I found out I had pcos about a year ago..no wonder I had to be so extream to keep weight off. The doctor wanted to put me on Metformin to loose weight. I did not do it. My friend is on metformin and still in the 300s.When you don't feel well.. have fibromyalgia pain keeps you down and your a caregiver you want to reach for what's simple, peanut butter sandwich..I see this will take more research.

I just hate pcos. It's so freakin unfair and I know there's a lot of us having to deal with it but gosh I feel so freakin miserable. I just can't stay positive and love my body when my acne is getting worse and worse... I'm considering getting back on BC but I'm afraid it will actually makes things worse. I was so glad to quit taking it and I'm just so lost. Sorry for the complaining 😬 needed to take that out of my chest! Thx for the video though :))

Mathilde Cartier I'm in the same place you are, it's taking everything in me to stay strong and determined. But I really have no other choice 😫 it's rough, my acne has gotten pretty bad since being off BC. And for that very reason I know going back on it for me prob a bad idea. My acne was way less severe before I ever took BC in my 20s. I actually think it's one of the main culprits in my hormones becoming imbalanced in the first place....stay strong girl we can do this. For me I think I need to take sugar out

I had super early onset pcos around 9 yrs old. I got acne inversa . In all the spots i would never want. The drs always told me it was diffrent things until i saw a show on some network with a girl named whitney something, and she explained all her symptoms and im like wtf that sounds exactly like what i have! Im down a ton of weight still got about 150 to go. I have had the bad shedding of hair for the past 5 yrs or so. And ive had the unwanted hair for well over 13 yrs now. I noticed my flare ups are alot less when i cut out refined sugar all together. Wfpb worked well with my pcos. But keto works the absolute best!

I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago. I gained 70lbs in a little over a year--I'm down 45 now, but it is a challenge. I'm glad youre spreading the word, more women need to know about it! My symptoms were weight gain (and no weight loss with diet and exercise--food journal and fitbit tracked by my doctor), acne, and lots of facial hair 😶😶😶. I really encourage women to get checked out immediately, if you are experiencing these. You will save yourself a lot of trouble.

I'm 16, turning 17 in 2 months, I was diagnosed with PCOS when i was 13 so I've gotten used to it all by now but its just staring to make me feel so down and bad about myself and I don't even know why. I've been eating healthy and have been a vegetarian for 2 years now, I rarely have any dairy and I go to the gym 3/4 times a week, yet I can't seem to lose weight. Last year, I went to a nutritionist and she simply told me to eat more fibre and fruit which hasn't helped at all. I dont know what to do or how to feel good about myself, I feel so self conscious when anyone even looks at me, it's not like i'm overly over weight yet I feel so gross. Olivia Marie You don't need to have cysts to have pcos. If you have enough of the other symptoms which include irregular menstral cycles, facial hair growth, head hair thinning or male pattern baldness in a female, some body hair growth and insulin resistance leading to easy weight gain and difficulty losing weight. I hope this helps.

Actually pcos is directly connected with insulin resistance, to reverse that you need to be on zero sugars and low carb. Intermittent fasting is the best option to fix blood sugar problems. Dr. Eric berg talks a lot about this on his channel and how to do it properly. I have pcos and had insulin resistance, I went Keto and started intermittent fasting and I no longer have blood sugar problems.

Good video, I found out I had PCOS when I was 15 (14 years ago). I think it's important to note that a plant based diet that isn't balanced can have way too many carbs for someone with PCOS. Eating fruit around the clock is a lot of sugars - and while it's better than chocolate around the clock, for sure, but is still too much, especially for someone with PCOS. Dairy doesn't effect me as much, though I don't eat it in excess at all, 4-5 servings a week typically. Carbs, especially processed carbs like breads, are by far the worse for me. Whole grain carbs (whole grain rice, oatmeal, etc) don't affect me as negatively for sure. Switching to natural skin care helped me tremendously with skin problems. Cutting out sulfates, gluten etc from skin and hair care routine was way easier than the dietary changes!

God gave us what we need to heal out bodies. Last month I cut back on dairy, fried foods, and sugars, and meat and I feel a lot better. I'm basically doing a dairy free keto. I lost about 5 pounds which is not a lot, but I will keep tweaking until I figure out what works. I feel hopeful. I drink organic spearmint tea with sweetener or no sugar and its helped with my rosacea. I love mint tea. They road to healing is to research and know that you are NOT alone. This was a great video. I have pcos and have been vegan for the past year and a half.. even with the change in diet I did not get my period and I struggle everyday with low self esteem. I absolutely hate my body and the fact that I have to spend a half hour plucking hairs out of my face every morning. I get depressed and anxious. I have recently started taking the pill per my doctors request after a year of not taking it. I hate not knowing what to do with my own body. I thought I was doing the right thing by not taking the pill then I still never got my period then got scolded by my doctor for not taking it. When I first went vegan I dropped 20lbs really fast then within a year I've gained it all back probably plus more weight, but I also never exercised and still ate processed food. Now I am trying to focus on my health and getting my weight under control. I'm taking my doctors recommendation of going back on the pill and I'm staying vegan but I'm going to cut way back on processed crap. I've started exercising once a week but am going to up that to at least 4 days. Hopefully I can change for the better but pcos is something I will probably struggle with the rest of my life and it gets discouraging. If anyone reads this and had advice I would gladly hear it. Thanks. 💕

I was diagnosed with pcos when I was 16. Pcos is just horrible, unlike any other disease. It has ruined me so much, it's like caring for a body which has failed to work as a normal body. It's not even our fault that we have it, but by not dealing with it we destroy nothing but ourselves. It's frusting(so much indeed). The worst part of having pcos is that it makes us not be yourselves. Feeling the fatigue kills us and our friends and families. But it is so much comforting for me(hopefully for all of us) to see that we are in this fight together, and we are gonna handle that shitty problems as best as possible. Please don't give up and study your case because it's different for everyone. Remember: PCOS doesn't makes us less than what we are, what we are capable of. My good wishes with you.

I'm 17 and i was recently diagnosed with pcos, i had my first period very early (i was 11) and when i was 13 i started having irregular periods with a heavy blood flow during periods combined with severe abdominal pain. I started gaining weight in just a few months i went from 45 to 55 lbs and more in the future. Now i know and i understand that it's Soo hard to lose weight and maintain a steady weight, i mean I'm a teen and i have body image issues, so i started working out. The results are slow, very slow. All i can recommend is a HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING. Try it, i swear it works in every body type and it helps us with pcos. The other important thing is to not skip meals, have a good breakfast with all the elements and cut down on carbs. No dairy, i know it hurts i personally love dairy but no dairy. Exercise atleast 5-6 times a week. And above all don't give up.

I was diagnosed at 15. BC helped regulate my period and went off of it at 17. I got pregnant 4 times, but lost one ovary at 29. My diet is already limited, I can't eat processed/dairy because of IBS, I can't eat more than once a day (maybe 2 meals a day, if my blood sugar drops) and I eat smaller portions than my 10 year old. I've had three doctors say my body retains a lot of fluid (I once had so much fluid in my body, I had to have a catheter.) I gained 20lbs... I've gained at total of 70lbs over the past 5 years. I can't even walk for two days out of the month due to cramping... 😭 If I cut out much more, I won't eat anything aside from water.

Just found your video, I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. I gained over 50 pounds or more in a year and I stopped getting my periods for over a year I’ve tried everything to lose weight because I didn’t know I had PCOS until a few days ago. I thought I was just eating really unhealthy foods and so I quit soda like 10 months ago and haven’t touched any soda since. People have told me “You stopped getting periods because you’re overweight” so I thought I’d have to lose weight in order to get them again but my weight was just going up and up. I’m still overweight and it really makes me depressed. Ive even tried water fasting to lose weight. I tried everything but I’ve lost multiple friends, and even became homeschooled because I was embarrassed of myself and didn’t wanna show my face to anyone and I’d get jealous easily over other slim, pretty girls. So that would depress me even more because I wanna be like them. So I just wanna say thank you for your advice and hopefully I start loosing weight soon. I’m sorry you also have to suffer with PCOS. It isn’t fun.

I spent my teens and early twenties teetering on the edge of this, but what finally pushed me over was actually going on the pill. It was only one stupid month, right after I got married, and I hated it. So I quit, and spent the next year feeling very sick. My doctor told me my symptoms were all in my head, but of course this was the same doctor who thought it would be a good idea to give estrogen pills to an overweight woman with a history of thyroid issues. Body fat is already a source of excess estrogen, and estrogen slows thyroid function, which also means more weight gain. I've learned a lot from self study and the functional medicine crowd. The most helpful things I've tried have been changing how I eat, just as you've mentioned, studying the Fertility Awareness Method, timing my cycles with lunaception, addressing emotional trauma with somatic methods and mindful exercise, and taking a multivitamin for people with poor methylation, since that is how your body gets rid of estrogen. Next up, I'm trying the Fasting Mimicking Diet, which is supposed to be great for insulin resistance and inflammation, and N-Acetyl Cysteine, which I've heard is as effective as metformin. I'm also finally really going to try to dig in and lose the weight. Thanks for the encouragement!

Everything else regarding insulin levels, says to eat less frequently, even intermittent fasting. It makes sense because when you eat carbs, insulin spikes. When you eat protein, insulin goes up a little, and when you eat fat, insulin barely goes up. Which leads to the keto diet...which freaking works...but is so hard for me! The Tedtalk on insulin by a dr Sarah was amazing. I did keto last year and lost a bunch of weight, cured all my cysts, and I got preg w #6 (not to mention, to my dr's surprise, improved my triglycerides, cholesterol, and undid the advanced fatty liver damage I had). Now that I have 6 kids, I am having a hard time getting back into keto. :( And stress is inevitable w 6 kids. I love being their mom, and want to be healthy for them. Prayers please!🙏

Being on birth control is not bad or terrible, it is a way to manage symptoms. I was on the pill for 20 years to control my PCOS. I would feel guilty about needing "toxic" meds, go off then have my uterine lining build up because my body just does not cycle correctly. Birth control helps the lining stay thin, which in turn helps with cancer prevention. Now I am on Mirena IUD and love it. My point is that sometimes medicine is a need, it is not terrible, there is absolutely no shame in taking it to address your health. ❤💪

I just found out today I had pcos, I have been told by lots of happy go-skinny doctors just to "eat less" and "exercise more". God if it was that easy if they knew what I had. But today there was this doctor that my size and told me that I had pcos. I am a wrestler and the exercise regimen they keep us on is pcos friendly but its not working. I have been at 190lbs for 6 months which is freaking holding me back from wrestling tournaments and matches. I just feel like crying and giving up on this because I have been exercising vigorously twice a day at school and incorporating lifting for 1hr and running doing bleachers 3 times a day plus running endless miles(3-5) for 3 times a week and I am freaking doing everything possible . I don't want to give up but in the process of doing the right things I feel like a failure

I'm pretty sure I've had pcos since starting my period at age 9... I've always had really painful periods so I thought maybe endometriosis but the difference is the cysts.. I had cysts that would painfully rupture every month and I always had irregular periods, I never knew when it was coming lol so I've been on the depo shot since I was 14 I stopped for 2 years and got pregnant and had my son and immediately got back on it lol this is really helpful because I'm trying to lose weight

So true food is medicine. Im Mexican and when i decide to go vegan for my pcos and over all health i was like this is gonna be so hard. It started a little tricky at the beginning but started making my favorite foods plant based and healthy. Ive been plant based for 8 years now and it has really changed my pcos and life. Eating lots of greens has helped i know that sounds boring but i became creative with my meals. Pcos is a bitch it can make you prone to cancer and diabetes all you can do is choose your health.

I was diagnosed when I was 29 yrs old. I gained 50 lbs in one year, skipped 2 months period and started noticing my hair thinning on the sides. I had very thick hair all of my life and now I'm 48 and I have hair loss along my hairline and sides and overall thinner hair. I struggle with weight since my late 20's whereas as a teen and college years I was size 3/4 and no weight issues. I feel PCOS takes away all the beauty in a woman. Hair, figure, skin. It's very unfair when other women do not have any of these worries, but life is unfair. The ONLY time I've seen my symptoms subside was when I ate extremely clean and exercised on a regular basis. I lost 50 lbs in 4 months doing this. But as soon as I stopped that routine, I slowly gained weight back. I actually lost weight while pregnant and breastfeeding (which my doctor explained to expect since I have PCOS..I loved being preggo). On a side note, I do not use BC or take any type of prescription meds. I just live with it.

I had absolutely no clue that I had PCOS until recently. A couple years ago I gained a lot of weight and couldn't put any of it off. I got off the birth control pill and popped in an IUD thinking that would help but I only noticed more problems. My doctor told me I had some cyst action going on on my ovaries and that it should go away thinking it was from IUD. Never really felt any relief. I saw something about the mistreatment of animals around that time and became conscious of my diet and started making more plant based choices and suddenly started to lose weight and have less health issues. I guess I got on my own little diet targeting PCOS without even realizing it. Plant based is definitely the way to go for decreasing the symptoms and to help you feel better.

@JB-rh3xd7 жыл бұрын
Try to do a local Google search and reach out to a few with your concerns and see what they say! Try to look for one that focuses on the quality of food vs. counting calories.

Check out Instagram. Just type in PCOS in the search bar and lots of things pop up. To start just cut out sugar, dairy, caffeine, and gluten. Try to avoid fat free brands, and processed meat.

Yes be careful when choosing a nutritionist for pcos! The first nutritionist I went to told me to drink all the diet soda I wanted. That is awful advice! I knew just from reading blogs on the internet that diet soda and caffeine is so bad for your hormones. So, do your research and find a nutritionist who has testimonials and references from women with pcos that they have helped.

One thing I learned along the way is that birth control mess up the good and bad bacteria in the gut and that this is also a major contributor to the problems and we need to repair out gut microbiome and take a good pre and probiotic. Also, I question the frequent meals or snacks since others say every time you eat it spikes insulin and intermittent fasting is better for this.

At this point I'm genuinely curious about something: I've been on birth control since I was diagnosed and have stopped gaining weight, have no acne, my body hair has gone back to normal and all other symptoms I had were gone within the first month of taking it. Now it's just a matter of losing the weight I had gained before BC (which is still very frustrating). Since my experience with BC was so positive, I'm curious as to why so many people seem to be against it having never tried it. I'm Italian and it's quite normal here to take BC because of PCOS, no one even questions it. Could you guys explain to me why lots of people refuse to take it? I'm a bit ignorant on the matter, my doctor simply told me I'm not likely to be affected by the sideffects given my blood tests and stuff, but never really explained all of them.

Hi!! Metformin could help you stop taking birth control. I also started with birth control, but at one point I found myself wanting to be overweight and have acne instead of taking birth control pils, they made me feel horrible. And then I went with a new gynecologist and she prescribed me metformin. Now I have regular periods, I've lost weight, and overall I feel better. Maybe you could talk to your gynecologist about it? 😊😊 Btw, thanks for this videos, they're so helpful!!

Girl, I keep going back to your videos. I have been struggling to eat a typical "healthy " diet, including all food categories. It just doesn't work...I feel like I'm not going anywhere. I'm eating so much healthier than before, and I'm still at a plateau. I'm still having cravings, especially at night when my baby wakes up...it's just horrible. I'm not getting enough sleep, I admit, and this might be the main saboteur along with the stress of caring for a baby. I am considering going whole food vegan, because at this point it's the only way I can begin seeing any changes in my appetite and weight. And seeing that I can fit into old clothes would seriously improve my self esteem. I have tried vegan before and I lost 7 kg in a month and a half. I felt amazing, my cravings were gone, I wasn't even visually attracted to other foods anymore. I went on vacation and had to eat whatever was available, and eventually thought I could eat normally again. Gained the weight back, and now I'm back from scratch trying to get healthy. It's just...I'm not a very predictable schedule person. I don't have time to be counting calories. I barely have time to look at my macros. I wasn't raised to count macros. Not even to eat intuitively. So it's a HUGE struggle to have to overthink these things on a daily basis. I guess I'm just looking to learn a handful of recipes and stick to those boring recipes until I have time to learn new ones. Being a mom is really stressful and time consuming, and I'm soo prone to depression and hormonal imbalances right now. I feel like a hot mess. You give me hope. I love you.

im on the verge of tears while watching. im so frustrated at how everyone thinks im just lazy hence why im gaining weight. for 3 months now i have been jogging for more than 2 hours a day just to lose weight. i have cut off a shit ton of food on my diet. im only eating twice a day but i never seem to lose any weight. i even tried drinking hot water before and after i eat because they told me it would help my weight loss. but everytime i talk to someone they just think its all because im lazy. i have worked hard to reverse my pcos while a lot of girls i know who are my age eat so much junk and dont exercise at all but dont even gain weight. i feel so wronged lol. idk i just. its so not fair. i just weighed myself and i gained 3 kilos. and it sucks cause i have been exercising like craaazzzyyy

Nikki Beray I know it is so frustrating! Be careful with working out to much it can cause hormones to overdrive and create more testosterone. Walk for about 30-45 minutes and do 10-15 of light weights will help. Also try berberine it helps with weight loss and helps cells to let go of glucose. Keep your head up 🥰 I know it’s hard I’m only down 2 lbs this month.

Dear Jovana- thanks for sharing you knowledge it is helpful and you are so sweet. I struggle with the same condition. I have done hours and hours of research and I agree with you in terms of the "food is medicine." By far that is consistant way to "heal' I noticed that you mentioned birth control and I have heard that birth control can really affect a women's body negatively and it just covers up the PCOS symptoms. Once you get off of it your irregular periods will return and you may also still struggle getting pregnant, danger of breast cancer. I see a Naturopathic doctor and she has given me supplements which can increase my insulin resistance or other things that can deal the PCOS symptoms thoroughly--- like inositol (I do a brand called conceve from green first because the blend is good for you- increases insulin resistance and fertility), also cortisolv which helps with cortisol levels, progesterone during certain days within my period, spironalactin, etc. She also has me "chart my cycle" by following something that not all doctors do which is Creighton Model NFP or Napro Technology (they also advocate for organic birth control). It is good because allows the women to pay attention to her natural body symptoms and see what is really wrong with her particular cycle or PCOS, etc. She and her doctor can then help her body accordingly versus the one size fits all that may happen with birth control. All of this things I mentioned really deal with the wide range of issues. Although 2 of those things are prescriptions, they are better than the prescription birth control. I hope this helps I would be glad to share more links/info if you are interested--- here are some...1- www.fertilitycare.org/ (find out more about Creighton Model and Napro Technology) (here you can find doctors or trained health care providers that know about this too). This technology has proven to be good both for the women and also for those couples struggling to conceive ( you can still wait to conceive too) 2- I also found a Doctor/author called Dr. Fiona Mcculloth drfionand.com/ - she gives a lot of good info too and explains-- she had youtube videos too. I believe she also doesn't like birth control for the same reasons I noted, I like 90% of her work, but I don't like her IVF stuff and she doesn't use the Creighton Model, otherwise she says a lot of the same things my doctor says and she backs it up with science. I hope you are doing well. I just wanted to share since you mentioned concerns about coming off the pill. Best wishes to you and feel free to reach out.

I'm so mad your doctor told you that going on birth control will ensure you get your period! On birth control, you only get a monthly bleed but you dont ovulate. That's not a menstrual period! I guess he meant it does allow your endometrium to shed and that is true. But with PCOS after getting off birth control your body may have a lot of trouble ovulating on it's own again so beware.
