It took 2 1/2 years and a lot of trial and error. Including exercise was important, but diet was the biggest factor. Switching to all organic diet, increasing intake of vegetables, and eliminating refined sugar was the biggest factor. Now 13 weeks pregnant. 🙂

One of my biggest problems with even getting PCOS diagnosed is most doctors don't seem to have any clue on what I'm talking about. I've only just become aware of this in the last few weeks (though I've clearly had this problem since I was a child), and I have no idea where to start or who to ask. The few doctors I've already spoken to seem to have no clue what so ever on this particular issue. So if you have any tips on where I can go to get help I'd most appreciate it. I'm from QLD, Australia (not from a big city like Brisbane or Gold Coast), so if specialist care is needed I may need as much information as possible. Thank you.

My sleep insomnia is terrible and very frustrating. I’ve created a routine to wind myself down but the past month I’ve had such a hard time. Hello Rachel. I'm really glad that you overcame the PCOS situation without any meds. It gives me hope and inspiration too. So I'm a university student and I'm not in a situation where I can go to gym or buy equipment for weight training. So what do you suggest I do instead? Do you happen to have a workout video which doesn't involve equipments, and can be a close enough substitute for the weight training. I do not have fat anywhere on my body except the thighs and the lower abdomen. I do workout more or less regularly, I'm a vegetarian and I follow a strict vegetarian diet. But my periods are really irregular and I have been diagnosed with PCOS as well. I'd be really grateful if you could give me tips on the questions I posed before. Thanks a bunch.

I don’t know what to do. I was just diagnosed with PCOS last week, but I also have bipolar II and my relationship with food is really emotional. I suffer from severe, debilitating depression and have for years. No medication has worked so far and I’ve tried at least 15. Changing my diet means cutting out 50% or more of my happiness chemicals for the day. I’ve tried to diet so many times and I never make it past a week. I have zero self control, I’m miserable, and I’m completely broke so I can’t afford the diet you’re recommending. I don’t even know where to start.

Girl I am in the same boat. Really struggling with the binge eating. The way I am trying to tackle it, is that I make one big meal per week which will feed me for a few nights or lunches. This meal has to be healthy but yummy. So this week was a giant Bologna’s with shredded zucchini and carrot and mushrooms hidden in it. I used that to make tacos one night and spag bowl another. By picking Vegas that are in season it was actually quite inexpensive, the other meals I tend to binge eat still, but trying to keep the cheapest Vegas and greens in my fridge and because I eat so much chocolate I am giving myself a quota of 1 bag of Freddo frogs a week, if I eat them all in one go (which I do) tough titties, so I am learning to ration them so I can spread out the dopamine. I have found making rice dishes be for the big meals are usually my cheapest, and will get the bag of frozen veg to save in money if I am really tight. Also trying to force myself to get 30 mins home workout off KZbin to try and increase endorphins (if I’m honest I’m really hit or miss with this). Sounds super lame but I will get a timer and smile as wide as I can for a minute, feels so fake but actually helps increase dopamine. Let me know how you are going in the future and we can keep each other in check, I am sick and tired of life passing me by because I am so depressed

I know this is not healthy at all but I can't get my body to eat anything else). Is this also a symptom of PCOS? I have multiple other symptoms and I'm going to check with my female doctor to see, but just wanting to know if this is another symptom I could include?

@RachelAust

There are a number of factors that could be causing you to not lose weight. Consistency plays a big part - it has taken me years to reach where I am at today. I would recommend speaking with a naturopath to see if they can help as well.

I bought the mesomorph training plan. Can’t afford a personal trainer to help me determine my 1 rep max or whatever. Can’t find any consistent info online about how either (every resource says something completely different) 👎👎👎
@RachelAust

There are a lot of calculators online. Generally, if you can comfortably lift something for 12 reps that is your 80%. For example, you are lifting 10kg for 12 reps, your 1rm would probably be around 14kg.

Yeah thats true its not, i think theres specific brands that make sure they are but we just stopped buying them at all. Im not but my partner is. Sensitivity is a thing though too because of general bad gut health its a harder food to digest.

@Tiffany Davison Insulin resistance is a symptom of PCOS, gluten sensitivity is not. Gluten as it relates to insulin can be a problem due to spikes in insulin

soliferi oh great! Thank you! I’ll be sure to let my dr and specialist know that they’re both wrong... are you taking appointments? Gluten sensitivity and bloating can be a symptom of pcos. I know because it’s a symptom that I’ve been battling with. So before you go off pretending to know every detail about everyone’s PERSONAL PCOS symptoms and journey, think about how it might effect them and the fight they’re dealing with.
