it's wild b/c i was compeltely free to play had nearly 50k lucent spent and then once i was max we own the siege castle and gained another 4.1k lucent from earning and quit lol. TNL was never going to be a long term thing for me so i 10000000% knew i wasn't going to pay anything, if it had a subscription i would be down to spend on that. my biggest regret/fear about spending any kind of money is exactly what shroud said, spending and then it becomes obsolete merely weeks later. That and the fact that it kills your motivation to play once you get the max gear.

This game is about zergs. There are servers in Europe filled with several guilds of russians(one guild split into many) just zerging with 300+ people and destroying even whales guilds because they are outnumbering whales. And whales guilds transfering to other servers because they cannot compete.

I have a rather controvesial opinion on the whole microtransaction topic. But I know that game development has become a lot more costly over the years. The cost of making and maintaining a game has grown substantially, and a 50$ box price with nothing else is not cutting it anymore. Someone has to pay for the continued development of the game. Who is gonna pay. You? Obviously not. The solution was microtransations, so that a few thousand whales will pour lots of money into the game, so that hundreds of thousands of F2P players can enjoy the game and it's future updates without having to spend a dime. That's just how it works nowadays.

I played L2 back in the day and the epic stuff from bosses usually wasn't even on the market (all those bosses were controlled by the top guild and average Joes couldn't even sneak peak at them). So if you're not with the top guild the only way to get one of those - to swipe. And even then normally only "low" grade epic stuff was available like Frintezza or Ant Queen. I bought the latter for like 100$😄. Plus unlike Korea (i think) our servers were one of those f2p servers BUT 95% people were buying so called premium account for like 10$ a month which doubled your exp, money drop and stuff. Without it there wasn't much sense in playing with x1 rates

In my guild alone at least 30 people dropped over 50-100k on Raid and 30k in WOR. And these guys are insanely good at strategy. Thats interesting cause lost ark pvp was way better then what I've seen in this game I'd agree big scale (which isn't much of a thing in lost ark) is better in throne but small scale arenas were very skill intensive in lost ark since you had to chain CC to kill people, which takes coordination very reminiscent of BDO style but in a different format essentially and BDO pvp is top tier in its complexity in small form combat cause you can just mash and win you have to know when to use your super armor skills to negate a knock down or when to use your CC, BDO shoulda had like 1v1 or 3v3 arenas the one type of structured pvp they had was a mess. Other then that I'd say the small scale pvp in lost ark and BDO are top tier cause theres high skill ceilings in both when it comes to 1v1s no gear diff.

I rarely buy anything for progression because that’s a slippery slope that once you start now I did the first ascendant I bought Act energy activators cause I was excited I had finally got my first ultimate character. I didn’t have one at the time so I bought one and then I ended up buying two more using the same reasoning and then I said fuck that I’m not spending money on this game anymore. I don’t buy anything but cosmetics and that’s very occasionally and games like this sometimes just unleashed. I immediately bought enough tickets to max out the warehouse so that I can put all of my stuff in the warehouse and have it available to all my characters right all my crafting stuff was in the warehouse Personal storage was still at like five or eight slots whatever they came with but the warehouse storage which is shared that I bought the tickets upgraded because there was no way in game to do it. It was an actual pay to win feature. Hey feature that you could only get by buying it in the store, now your inventory you could upgrade all the way just by playing the game so that’s what I did. I didn’t buy any of it but beyond that I generally do not spend money on anything but cosmetics in these games at the end of the day when I get to endgame and I feel like I’m godly I wanna feel like I got there naturally without spending money Now I’m not talking about using experience boosters and shit like that. Everybody uses on the first ascend that they were giving them to us like almost daily and they may still be doing it destiny there’s several different kinds one for each type of gameplay buying actual gear and loot, but never winter with about 800 bucks you can be at the top of your game course. The next patch you’ll have to start all over or less so I don’t see the point in spending that money not to mention the game decide to shut down at any moment, you got 25 grand locked up in it. You need serious help with that that’s a mention I don’t know you but like go was talking about how paid to win and how awful Diablo mortal is and then he’s dropped $1000 on it just on stream front of everybody that’s like saying that the butcher is a bad guy because he butchers up cow and then you go buy beef I mean, seriously that’s like very disingenuous hypocritical to say the least, but thank you. I didn’t last because I don’t fuck with PC cheaters but or the boss that go along with it but thank you for spending money to keep the free to play games. I love alive.

Let me be 100% clear here, to anyone confused: Shroud didn't spend 25k on Lost Ark cuz it's a dumb game. Shroud spent 25k on Lost Ark cuz Shroud is a dumb person. Lost Ark is 100% pay-2-win ofc, I ain't saying that to defend to game. Outrageous monetization practices should always be called out as what they are: trash. BUT, there was absolutely no reason for him to spend that crazy amount of money so poorly. He wasted that money all by him-self, as EVEN IF he wanted to spend 25k on the game, they could've been spent in a way WAY more cost efficient way, over a reasonable amount of time. There was absolutely no reason for him to swipe out of T1 and T2, and even with the rushed Argos release he could've spent like 1k to get there on release with ease, not 25k.
