I'm 54, Disabled due to Coal Mining and Factory Industrial accidents, had 5 shoulder surgeries, 3 Back surgeries, 2 Heart surgeries, 3 neck surgeries. I Still get up everyday and piddling around physically. I'm slow and have to take breaks often due to pain but I work in my garden, cut my own grass, tinker on projects in the garage, walk a mile a day. I found out that if I don't get up and move everyday, the pain in my joints and back is much worse. Hope 🤞 everyone has a safe and happy New Years.

I'm 40, I just got done driving T-posts in the rocky ground to build an expansion for my sheep and goats. I'm always working around my farm, I stay busy, and active. I eat right, I eat once a day, and I don't eat junk food or candy. I exercise daily, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups and body weight squats every morning, before my morning hike. My morning hike also serves a secondary purpose, it helps me find dead standing trees which are a fire hazard, but make great firewood. Anything that can be made to serve multiple purposes is a great way to get the most out of an activity.

An hour ago I listened to a heart surgeon on prolonging life and he said this 1) no processed food, no fast food, no snacks, only nutritious food 2) keep moving, walk, jog, bike, swim 3) lift weights to increase muscle mass. Sounds like a plan to me.

I understand completely. I am about to turn 42 I have a bad back due to a leg length discrepancy.i have to wear a custom lift in every shoe to help with it. One leg shorter than the other it throws everything off. I also have PCOS so I gained a bit of weight as soon as I hit my 30s. I am trying to avoid the big “D” associated with PCOS I’ve been more than 20 lbs overweight for years and it’s hard to get it off. It’s been making me feel old ,undesirable and uncomfortable. As of 3 months ago I got a new job as a custodian at a very old three story school and the daily workout has done wonders for me. I’m down 15 lbs without even trying. Now that I am less sore and seeing the fruits of my labor,I’m going to start some mild strength training and work on my core which will help my back. If I can do it anyone can you need something to motivate you and for me it was my job but also I do not want to become overweight and diabetic I hate needles so it won’t work out too well I will do my best because that’s all I can do.

I just turned 60 on 122924. I'm a handyman female of all sorts. I'm completely rebuilding floor to ceiling, electrical and plumbing, a pull behind camper. It was in bad shape when I 1st got it. Coming along beautifully. Looks like a cabin inside. Anyways, I also take care of my elderly mom full time as well. God is good! All the time

Yeah, it's rather hard to go on a brisk walk while caring for an elderly parent. Been taking care of my dad w/dementia for over 8 years. He can still walk small distances, like around stores and back to car which I often park away from store. But I had to get a small treadmill to get some quicker steps in each day😉

36 years young here. Couple hundred square feet of raised garden beds I take care of for the wife's garden. Few fruit trees, grape vines, and 3 dogs. I stay plenty active despite my desk job....praying that in a few years we move farther out of suburbs and can get quail or chickens. Plan on gardening and working outdoors till God calls me home....at which point I will either be standing guard on the golden streets (USMC) or farming in heaven.

Just hit 63 and enjoy doing active things and hoping this year to increase the actives. When death comes I want it to be enjoying life outdoors not in a chair or bed. I can understand the cold but I am from New England so going out in cold or snow was part of life (currently in TN). Fishing beat me up good some trips but I still find just taking a walk in the woods and finding a nice place to sit down with a cup of coffee and watching nature the best part of life. Happy New Year

I appreciate advice and hearing why when it comes to not caving to age. I am 57 but stronger and better than I was in my 20s. That machine Chuck Norris sells is awesome and works. Due to space, had to get rid of it. I moved into Chi Lel Qi Gong by Luke Chan, dvd's before bed, and stayed with Level 2 for a couple of years. No aches, no pains, freed of all kinds of things. Life happened and had to stop that, too. DVDs had been stolen which I discovered when I was about to start again. I went to mucking out stalls until the job ended. Then removing Scotchbroom from over four acres, using my legs to press and raise the manual puller. Not to mention, doing other types of work. Currently, I do a KZbinr's 'Bed Sheet Workout (t-shirts or towels are fine to use) and Look Betters which helps the abdominals and other areas. The workouts can be done sitting but I stand. It was almost unbelievable when a relative noted that I'd lost weight. Wasn't expecting to hear that. Four months later, five inches were gone. Pants and shirts were sloppily hanging off me. I get out of my wooden table chair about every 60 minutes and walk a minute or so. Don't want the legs suffering lack of circulation nor having a stroke.

Hi MD, I'm 67 and dragged out my dumbbell set and have been weight lifting 3 times a week. On the off days I ride a bike in the warm weather, or use my Nordic Track elliptical in cold weather. What got me motivated was seeing all the old folk at a funeral frail, and hardly getting around. I don't want to get like that.
@Dancinbear19952 күн бұрын
There's no way I'd be sittin' at home in front of a screen with weather like that! It's a damp 27 and dropping here! When I was a kid, I rarely spent time indoors. Summers were spent tubing the creek (crick) or at the local pool where there was at least 200 bikes in the bike racks. Now, there's none; the bike racks are gone, and within the past 3 weeks, so is the pool! Though they say they're building a new one; we'll see? I ride bike everyday to stay fit no matter the weather, and I'm 64! Keep on keeping on MD! 😉

We must do what we can. I have CFS/ME that has disabled me for 10 years but I try to do what I can. I can walk up to a mile a day. I do as many chores as I my body will tolerate. I just have lay down afterwords and rest. I eat as healthy as possible. But it would be easy just to give up and be bed ridden. That’s not a good answer.

Being active in general is very very important, however as you begin to head in my direction (towards the Big 6-0) you might find that motivation without mindfulness can equal a cracked hip or a stroke or being too stiff to be of use for a week or worse 🙂

One of the most important things you can do as a human is to simply squat. We're designed to squat and because we stop doing that, we develop issues. So, practice a resting squat. You should be able to squat into a resting position that looks kind of like a frog. Little kids do it naturally so you can just watch them play and you'll see what I mean. You should be able to to keep your back straight and your feet on the floor. This is important for not getting hurt falling of all things but it's the complications from falling that are most likely to do us in a we age.
