I've had the hardest time getting a good tone from my M900 v2 di and cab Sims. I can't eq it or use gain how I like from the amp without getting the clipping you kind of have around 9:20. I'll have to try blending the post and pre di outputs like you have cause it sounds pretty good otherwise. Otherwise I've just been sticking with a beta 52a to the cab cause the tone has been miles better for me.

Avalon U5 to me is the ultimate DI for Bass. Nice and clean. If you want some "growl" try the Ampeg SRC Preamp pedal or the Dug Pinnick or Geddy Lee pedals from Tech 21. Both great for recording or live. Very versatile.

I can't imagine what guage strings you must be using to tune a bass to drop A. I tune to C standard on the regular and I have to be careful about string slop. I'm basically using the heaviest guage my dainty little fingers will tolerate. Absolute fact: distortion on a full range signal from a bass guitar will make the low frequencies hard to situate in a mix. Distortion on anything below about 200 Hz just leads to an undefined mess. Splitting the signal and keeping the low side as clean as possible works wonders for helping you keep low end definition whilst giving you the opportunity for all the dirty grunt you want on the upper end. Just remember to leave some space for your guitar in the spectrum.
@KlockoFett4 жыл бұрын
A little late here, but learn to love a 50-110 string set. You can sort of get away with 50-105 if you can't find 50-110. I believe Slinky's are available in both, Ken Smith makes a pretty fantastic 50-110. The biggest thing you can do to help with the feel of super low drop tunings, is get your bass set up for it. It definitely involves truss rod adjustments, re-intonation, etc. I used to play in a band that was all drop C. Without a setup and Heavy gauge strings, it was just sloppy sounding and feeling. Good luck to ya!

I'm really curious how do you mix a baritone with a bass? I guess bass is also cut through guitar in mid and even hight mid frequencies? All demos of yours sound savage.
@fromtheashbandofficial3 жыл бұрын
For the music I do...I really do a pretty aggressive high pass on the guitar bus that usually sounds a bit thin on its own bit then you throw a sub DI mixed with distorted bass tone that basically becomes part of the guitar tone. For old school rock id never be the aggressive with filtering but since there is such a crazy frequency range with low tuned songs its a bit more necessary IMO.

Rabea, can you recommend a bass preamp that will give me a processed line level signal on a balance output as well as A DI signal I can send through a pre? I agree, using fingers gives a punchier, more mid range focused sound. That's the reason I play with fingers instead of a pick. My bass rig is a Thunderclaw into an HX Stomp. I stack the Thunderclaw with the built-in clawthorn drive, into a mid-rangey GK-based amp sim. Distorted AF.
@christainsoto1235 жыл бұрын
gyrosphinx The difference in tone is we’re he’s hitting the strings. When he plays with his fingers he’s hitting closer to the bridge pickup which has less bass.
