honestly 1hr screen time is hard when we use our phones for navigation, as calculators, alarms, cameras etc. i feel like once you get control over your screen time (like you did) it’s easier to navigate the screen time and knowing what’s “ok” to have used up 30 mins of screen time that day. (for example, i love listening to music and often have 30ish mins of screen time a day from spotify being open, changing albums and browsing for a new playlist, etc

The digital wellbeing thingy on my phone breaks down what kinds of apps I'm using. Also, every week it shows me the three apps I use the most. I set my goals and try to keep stuff like Instagram off the top three. KZbin is OK because I listen to music and audio books. I'm not sure I could just go down to an hour a day, at least not long term.

My phone's screen time has always been low and I was happy about it but I realised that it's only bc I use my laptop SO MUCH... and that means I'm actually A LOT of hours in front of a screen: at work and outside of it. I should also incorporate better habits like reading more, exercising, doing crafts...

@nathanntan3 ай бұрын
Nice challenge! Instead of just focusing on how much time we spend on our phones, we should also think *about what we do with it*. For example, if you have a long-distance friendship, it's hard to mantain it without videochatting every now and then! And a videochat can easily add an hour or two to your screentime. But is that bad? No. An hour of screentime spent talking with a friend is *far more valuable* than 30 minutes of brainless scrolling. So.. are we spending too much time on the wrong things and not enough on the right things? That's the question we should ask ourselves :) I'd like to see the same challenge with computer screentime! That would be interesting ⭐🙌
@kailani_song3 ай бұрын
i agree with you! Having a lot of screen time isn't necessarily bad, it all depends on what you're doing with that time
@jadehei538Ай бұрын
It's hard to avoid screens, I do so many mandatory things on my phone, like pay bills, order groceries and buy everyday items, order medicine, search for important information and almost everything that has something to do with my health is also online. In Finland digitalisation is really prevalent. It's hard to do anything irl anymore. Can't for example just walk into a bank to take care of stuff, it's all online. Even most phone services for everyday things have been either ended, or they are very expensive or have very limited service hours and you probably have to wait a lot. Frankly it sucks. It's good to use tech to make lives easier, but it doesn't feel like a good idea to only depend on digital services.

My goal is 2 hours screen time on phone, one hour just for media and lets say while having dinner i need some entertainment and second hour reserved for only chats that i get from internship ward and my doctor plus it includes call, i have decided as soon as i hit 2 hours my phone will be switched off till the next day, my goal is to study 12-14 hours a day since for my medical licensing exam i gotta do everything for it, my goal is to read a lot of books in those hours which i waste doing nothing, learning about drawing which is my hobby and reading some books regarding finance, maybe learn editing , i will say it as productive procrastination, i feel like 3 hours of phone time is still healthy on a chill day but more then that is definitely destructive for your whole life, lets hope for the best, my challenge will be until my medical licensing exam in January and until my end of internship so i can crack another licensing exam for residency in usa /uk i.e total time period of 1 and a half year

one thing that helped me a lot was not measuring in hours but time wise, like the days i wake up at 4 am are more likely to have a higher screen time than the ones I wke up at 1pm, so I try to keep my screen time below 20% of my day. (so If i was awake for 16 hours that means 3h 20min which might seem high but its really not for that day, whereas a day that I was awake for only 10 hours it would be 2). I also don't really count some things towards it, like if im facetiming my friend its gonna make it higher but its not scrolling or anything harmful, same with music app, or maps)

The phase of actually learning how to do new and fulfilling things will be hard, because you are not good at it. But it's the only thing that helps. Imagine this: If you couldn't use your PC, Phone, Tablet, TV or Laptop, what would be left of your Routine besides Necessities like sleep and work? If you can't find a good Answer, you have a problem. Acknowledging that is the first step. Take your time people, you can do it!

i spend a lot of time on screens bc in addicted to movies from the 2000s...

Everybody gansta about reducing screen time until their SO texts you... I spend easily 1-2 hours a day that way I wouldn't change it. Screen time averages 3 hours.

What did you do the times when you typically were on the phone but couldn't because of the challenge? What i struggle the most with is what to do when i dont wanna use my phone and have spare time. should i just sit and stare at my wall or something lmao
@niftythegoblin5 күн бұрын
Read a book, get a hobby (I like to draw and bake, but Ik that's not for everyone), talk to someone in your house (or call somebody, the goal isn't to never use your phone, it's to not doomscroll), go for a walk, write a journal entry, write a story that's been in your head for a while, take yourself to dinner or the movies, or even, yes, stare at your wall for a while lol Ik that sounds like I'm being sarcastic but you force yourself to think of things that way and you force yourself to process things by simply not doing anything else for long enough. Best of luck! :)

I have a really similar screen time, and I really want to reduce it. I'm going to try this challenge starting Sunday since today's Wednesday! I'll update every week!! :) Week 1:

Many thanks for this video. I'll start my own challenge to see any improvement. My main goal is to use less social media, and I'll keep playing mobile games. My daily average for this week is 4h 50m.

I was wondering, what did you do while you were away of your phone? I feel like, when i'm away of my phone, i have no idea what to do, which obviously isn't healthy at all 😅 did you try new hobbies? Or did you spend time reading or that kind of stuff?
@kailani_songАй бұрын
yeah i found some new things to do; this may sound really nerdy, but for a period of time i got really into doing long division with an abacus!

So i wanted to share you my expérience. I have never had an astronomic screentime but at some point i hit the 3hours per day and I felt like it was enormous so I tried to reduce my screentime. And I succeeded I had less than an hour screentime a day but after that I didn’t knew what to do with my Time I tried spend more Time on my hobbies like reading and drawing but I was forcing my self and Even after that I still had Time left i wanted to practise a sport but I don’t have the mondy so I started Working out at home. And not really having friends that i could see easily made that evrything I was doing I was doing it alone and it was depressing me I had all the Time i wanted to think about how i had no one to spend Time with no matter how much I asked. I was really not feeling ok so I started going back on my phone the same as before I don’t know if you have any tips for me please let me know

I don't think I'm the best person to answer this question since I don't have much experience with it and don't know your situation well, but have you tried talking to your friends on your phone or making some online friends? Not having social interaction can't be good for anyone... I hope your situation gets better soon!

Thank you for taking the Time to answer me ima try it thank you very much

I would do this… If my school didn’t make us use our devices for our work 🗿 (This adds about 2-3 hours of screenTime usually)
@nadashemais7564Ай бұрын
That doesn't count as screen time it's literally just work or studying so same as studying on the book but instead on the phone
@yeji.yuuuuuАй бұрын
@ Yea but it's hard to keep track if its screen time on my freetime vs on my school

One time I got 12 hours because I was sick and nothing else my brainrotted mind knew to do, I’m still sick but now I’m at 4 hours because I actually did some napping and did some music theory work
@Dylan-ig6ng13 күн бұрын
if i'm going for a run but listening to spotify, do i count that?
@kailani_song12 күн бұрын
I wouldn’t count it because your screen isn’t even on for that,, I think it’s no different than playing a CD or something
@mai1tsy3 ай бұрын
tbh I think I can make it until 1h, since I'm using my phone a lot to talk to friends or even for useful uses (like google map, Apple Pay), taking photos etc I'm currently at 3/4h (which is a lot to me), this video motivated me to reduce it!
