This is the best way to reduce your screentime aka: challenging yourself. I did basically the same but on a much longer span of time bc I've been addicted for almost a decade, so I preferred a softer approach. I went from 9-10 hours screentime in January, to 4 and a half now. Hope to get under 1 hour by the end of the year.

I think endlessly scrolling isn't the problem, it's a symptom of a deeper issue. Understanding why we do it is a good approach. Are you full of negative thoughts? Is it uncomfortable to sit in silence without any external stimulation? Try doing it. Yes, it sucks at first, but with practice, you realize it isn't that bad and you can control your thoughts and emotions, it's helped me immensely honestly

honestly 1hr screen time is hard when we use our phones for navigation, as calculators, alarms, cameras etc. i feel like once you get control over your screen time (like you did) it’s easier to navigate the screen time and knowing what’s “ok” to have used up 30 mins of screen time that day. (for example, i love listening to music and often have 30ish mins of screen time a day from spotify being open, changing albums and browsing for a new playlist, etc

The digital wellbeing thingy on my phone breaks down what kinds of apps I'm using. Also, every week it shows me the three apps I use the most. I set my goals and try to keep stuff like Instagram off the top three. KZbin is OK because I listen to music and audio books. I'm not sure I could just go down to an hour a day, at least not long term.

@@JP-ve7or I don't know which digital wellfare app you have but most of them also have a way to set limits for specific apps, which might be helpful for you too. For example you can set the Instagram limit on one hour a day and if you surpass that, it'll lock the app for the rest of the day.

My phone's screen time has always been low and I was happy about it but I realised that it's only bc I use my laptop SO MUCH... and that means I'm actually A LOT of hours in front of a screen: at work and outside of it. I should also incorporate better habits like reading more, exercising, doing crafts...

I used to have 12hr screen time daily and now come to 3hr+ (work required) A very efficient way to reduce a huge amount of screen time will be set the rule that You are not able to use ur phone during 1. Your phone is charging (tried not to charge your phone overnight, charge it before 1-2hr before sleep time, or when u wake up in the morning and u go brush teeth etc) 2. When having meal These 2 help a lot Welp youtube premium help with reduce screentime too because u can just closed the screen and listen only Listen to podcast instead of watching video and scrolling Set screen turn off after 30sec inactive

Nice challenge! Instead of just focusing on how much time we spend on our phones, we should also think *about what we do with it*. For example, if you have a long-distance friendship, it's hard to mantain it without videochatting every now and then! And a videochat can easily add an hour or two to your screentime. But is that bad? No. An hour of screentime spent talking with a friend is *far more valuable* than 30 minutes of brainless scrolling. So.. are we spending too much time on the wrong things and not enough on the right things? That's the question we should ask ourselves :) I'd like to see the same challenge with computer screentime! That would be interesting ⭐🙌

Mushrooms are very medicinal. This is why anybody familiar with psilocybin and any other kind of fungi will tell you, "They are alive." They have a very ancient wisdom. To my experience, all mushrooms have always said, "Pay attention to your life. How you think, how you feel, and what will you do with the information that you always knew, but now are seeing in this point of view." This is why mushrooms are so respected in tribal cultures. This mental health treatment works for me too. Half micro doses do the trick for me. At least a few days at a time with lengthy time in between. Never addictive. Thank you for sharing this point!

It's hard to avoid screens, I do so many mandatory things on my phone, like pay bills, order groceries and buy everyday items, order medicine, search for important information and almost everything that has something to do with my health is also online. In Finland digitalisation is really prevalent. It's hard to do anything irl anymore. Can't for example just walk into a bank to take care of stuff, it's all online. Even most phone services for everyday things have been either ended, or they are very expensive or have very limited service hours and you probably have to wait a lot. Frankly it sucks. It's good to use tech to make lives easier, but it doesn't feel like a good idea to only depend on digital services.

one thing that helped me a lot was not measuring in hours but time wise, like the days i wake up at 4 am are more likely to have a higher screen time than the ones I wke up at 1pm, so I try to keep my screen time below 20% of my day. (so If i was awake for 16 hours that means 3h 20min which might seem high but its really not for that day, whereas a day that I was awake for only 10 hours it would be 2). I also don't really count some things towards it, like if im facetiming my friend its gonna make it higher but its not scrolling or anything harmful, same with music app, or maps)

I did it! I managed to get rid of my old KZbin account, which I used to watch memes and brainrot! It also deleted my other channels for watching French practice and productivity tip vids, but I made new ones so that's alright. And even just by doing THAT, I've been wanting to spend more time on stuff like studying! My Anki stats right now are off the charts! Even when I'm on KZbin (for a bit less time than I was before), I'm actually learning from what I'm watching by taking notes and studying them. My French learning has improved so much in just a few days. :)

My goal is 2 hours screen time on phone, one hour just for media and lets say while having dinner i need some entertainment and second hour reserved for only chats that i get from internship ward and my doctor plus it includes call, i have decided as soon as i hit 2 hours my phone will be switched off till the next day, my goal is to study 12-14 hours a day since for my medical licensing exam i gotta do everything for it, my goal is to read a lot of books in those hours which i waste doing nothing, learning about drawing which is my hobby and reading some books regarding finance, maybe learn editing , i will say it as productive procrastination, i feel like 3 hours of phone time is still healthy on a chill day but more then that is definitely destructive for your whole life, lets hope for the best, my challenge will be until my medical licensing exam in January and until my end of internship so i can crack another licensing exam for residency in usa /uk i.e total time period of 1 and a half year

The problem with using the “screen time” metrics is it counts literally everything, including if you listen to audiobooks. I don’t care what my total screen time is, I want to know specific activities/app screen time. I don’t need to know that I spent 10 hours on my phone if 4 hours were spent with my phone sitting on my desk listening to a good book.

It's easier to do other stuff and focus on it instead of constantly and agonizingly trying not to use my phone. In theory. Once you realize that your life has hollowed out and all you do is work and waste your time gaming and watching videos, you are compelled to do it more to avoid that unpleasant feeling. The phase of actually learning how to do new and fulfilling things will be hard, because you are not good at it. But it's the only thing that helps. Imagine this: If you couldn't use your PC, Phone, Tablet, TV or Laptop, what would be left of your Routine besides Necessities like sleep and work? If you can't find a good Answer, you have a problem. Acknowledging that is the first step. Take your time people, you can do it!

@@sued4kk if i understood correctly: on week one, you must have less than 5 hours of screen time each day on week two, you must have less than 4 hours of screen time each day on week three, you must have less than 3 hours of screen time each day on week four, you must have less than 2 hours of screen time each day on week 5, you must have less than an hour of screen time each day if you fail on one day, you must start from the beginning but half the amount of screen time allocated to (for example, on week one you could only use your phone for 2.5 hours) it's also a good idea to monitor any other devices' screen time to make sure you're not just wasting time on that instead.

I’ve never downloaded tiktok, instagram, but I did keep KZbin for essential things like finding videos for study time but I always find myself coming back to scroll mindlessly through my fyp or through shorts. I don’t even like any of the content, it just keeps going. I wish KZbin didn’t have these features. I keep coming back here, does anyone have tips so I can keep KZbin without mindlessly scrolling all the time?

Recently I started cutting down my screentime that was at average 8 hours a day (when low), now i only have it at 6 hours max BUT i wake up early and go to sleep early, and from 8am (when I wake up) to 9pm my screen time is max at 3 hours, then it depends but averaging the total ends up 5/6 hours by the time I go to bed, which I think is a good improvement

Pro-tip: Putting your phone on black and white mode helps people decrease their screen time as it's less stimulating to the brain! (You can add a accessibility shortcut to make it easy to switch between settings)

2:29 if you had failed to stay below your goal, you would not have lost all your progress. Someone who shoots 4 baskets in a row, but misses the 5th doesn’t all of a sudden not know how to throw a basketball. We are human, we slip, we stumble, but we learn and retain what we’ve learned once it has been deliberate. You should note that I did something very similar to you, except I did it by doubling every week. First week I did 5 mins below screen time, next week 10, then 20, and so on. I am now up to 5 hours, but some days I get only 2.5 hrs, but that does not mean I have failed. Sometimes it is difficult and Ik it’s just my brain getting used to it and I just need to be deliberate and keep going.
