this showed up after i got over my procrastination. To share my recent experience i got over it by having art sessions for 1 hour with my friends on discord and it lead to me working on art for 4 hours a session for now 3 times a week. the reason i can do 4 hour sessions 3 times a week is because i work a part time job. what also helped me breakout of procrastination and rut. i started making logs of myself writing down what i've been doing daily and how much time im using doing stuff. With that data written down i found out how to make a schedule that works. basically everything stated in this video lol. Hopefully this helps someone struggling with not only procrastinating on creative efforts but on many other things in life.

Routines. Going to bed and waking the same time every day. Knowing exactly what I'll do first when I wake up, helps remove any disarray in my mind. Have an established rough day schedule. I keep a schedule where I put in the hours I dedicate to work, which hours I dedicate to rest, and hobbies or "training" as well as daily exercise. I work best when I do exercise directly after breakfast and I totally recommend it. Wakes the body up like nothing else. Also, engaging in communities. Communities for every hobby or thing that you are passionate about, networking with people. Opens up a plethora of opportunities and you meet cool people!

I genuinely appreciate how honest you are with these talks; discussing ego addiction is something we all face, but I think hearing it from someone further along in their career is really helpful. All of the problems you discuss seem to be inescapable, but rather something you have to learn to handle better over time. Really appreciate your content! With getting this childrens book complete, I've had to livestream it to stay on task for long hours, being held accountable by the viewers. Otherwise the fear of failing or not being good enough keeps me from getting anything done.

Speaking of social media, I watch KZbin too much) I watch this and that, some letsplays, short films, tutorials from animation and drawing comics to composing music (usually I watch and make huge outlines along). I mean, its good, I think, but instead of actual drawing/animating/playing guitar, I just spend too much time with all this theory part. I have to take a firm grip on myself
@sn3ar4 жыл бұрын
I have a super duper tip for you! Always when I watch something educational I'm really interested in, lika a guitar tutorial or a production tips and tricks or anything lika that, I use it as learning time. I pick up my guitar or open up fl-studio and do the thing they're talking about while they do it. It's okay if you don't nail it while you're watching the video, it's a start. You can write down the video and the theme for later training as well!

something similar to the timer: i specifically use a planner that has time intervals (from 6AM - 10PM) and assign blocks of time to do different tasks/projects (ie. from 8AM - 9AM check emails and make breakfast; from 10AM - 12PM complete scene 15 - 18 revisions). i discovered this method back in college while having to juggle 5-6 classes and all the assignments, reports and art homework that was included. it works best for people who might feel overwhelmed with having to finish something in only one day and would prefer to multitask or do things in increments.

The timer is what I've done for any college work(I'm not in art/animation school to clarify) in the past. My own personal tip for it is that if you're having a hard day mentally or physically but you still want to or need to get work done, that you should give yourself more break time. I've had days that I breaked as long as I worked, 30 min of work then 30 min of break for example. Its not as efficient but I wouldn't have gotten any work done otherwise and just getting any amount done is whats important.

I thought I had a mental problem, for being unable to focus, but seeing it normalized makes me way less ashamed now. I started streams on discords and it really helped. I realised in lockdown I get energy from hearing peoples feedback and it boosted my creativity a lot. Whenever I finished work I would end off by letting others tell me what to draw and it made me look forward to work. My own way of keeping productive is to have everything set up and ready to go the day or night before you start work. I them make a 5 task checklist of things I want to get done. when I am done with those five things I can add more to the list, but even just completing 5 small things helped me make progress and give me variation of work throughout the day. I also started hosting Bob Ross parties with friends on discord at the end of every week if and only if I met all of my goals. Its worked great so far!

What has been working for me lately is a star guide. It's where I create a section in my journal where I devide by days of the week and what I want to make progress on. Then I a put a stars down for what I accomplish that day. For instance if I read/listen to a book for 30min i give myself 1 star, 1hr-2 stars, 2+ -3 stars. It's a nice way to make a game of your progress and to keep track of what you can realistically accomplish in a day.

The same applies in terms of months and years, which is applying the compound effect and weekly pomodoro technique. I do 6 days of work on my own project, no less than 2 hours a day and no more than 4 hours a day. One day a week is a break/recovery day. Have been sticking to this for over a year with a full time job and haven't gotten burnt out.
@Siplick4 жыл бұрын
I really like your advice on filming your process because I've been doing it for a month and it helps me stay focused, and gives me a way to measure how much it takes for a picture to be finished - which in turn helps me quote the people who commission me better :) Otherwise, I also tend to watch easy-to-digest shows in the background, like comedy shows or dubbed anime, so that I have a playlist of sorts running in the background. Streamings also work and keep me focused on what I'm doing because I'm usually listening to something that interests me!

It will then block out those websites. When you would go on such a page then, you will just get to see some inspirational quote. You can add any website you want, to get blocked out. Another good thing to realise and remain conscious of is to realise that procrastination is a product of negative emotions. The human mind is designed to survive, not thrive, naturally, it considers the easiest path to be the best and actively discourages acts of self improvement because your survival is not at risk. It feels like it’s wasting energy that could be used later for actual survival. It’s the same process that compels guys to watch porn and jack it rather than find a partner, the path of least resistance is the path we often take. That’s why it’s better to go outside and do something, because now the path of least resistance is the work you want. Even just sitting in the kitchen and listening to audiobooks as I work is good enough

I noticed my main issue with procrastinating is that I don't randomly stop doing whatever to sit down and draw: once I start I can go at it for a lot of time without noticing, but the problem is simply starting. So last week I decided that I'd do one drawing each day (I was in the mountainside, so everyday there was a different panorama I could draw). I noticed that if you set this type of objective you'll kinda feel guilty when you don't do it, so you'll most likely start drawing as soon as you have a bit of free time, do a sketch, and then you'll just keep going with no issue, I even stopped drawing to go somewhere else, walk for an hour, and when I sat down, even for just a minute, I'd pull out the sketchbook and go right back to the drawing to finish it. Basically just find a way to force yourself to set everything up and start, even if it's an "I'll just draw/animate/study for five minutes, then I'll stop", you'll keep going for way more than 5 minutes and you'll have stopped your procrastination. Also keep your phone far away (or out of sight) and muted.

I can’t WAIT until i have a laptop because i can’t do most of these things on my iPad. I do use a timer & just work for 10 minutes on a project, 10 on another, & then watch a 15-20 minute KZbin video & do that again for a few hours, and i usually get a lot of work done compared to if i dont use a timer. I actually end up using 15 or so every time because i want to finish whatever i’ve just started, like a frame or a line of lipsync. I can’t record or stream because i don’t have enough storage on my stupid little iPad for a streaming app or an hour long recording. I’ll DEFINITELY do it when i have a laptop though. I don’t usually have deadlines or milestones because it just doesn’t work out, I procrastinate anyways. Same with trying to hold myself accountable & telling people about what i’m doing. I’d change the thing i do with timers when i get a laptop because i’ll be able to have my playlist in the background sp I’d probably set an hour long timer instead of 10-15 minutes & then a break. Anyways this comment is pointless bye
