I'm from India and we have an outfit kind of similar to dresses over pants. They're called Kurtis and kurtas and are basically a long dress with 2 slits on the side, it helps show the texture of the pant below while still maintaining the breeziness of a dress. I've tried pairing dresses with huge slits with pants and it definitely works for me. Thank you for making such an attainable and comprehensive guide especially for those of us who live in tropical countries, it had felt impossible to create interesting outfits until this video

Kurtas/Kurtis are absolutely STUNNING. I grew up being very close with a family from Southern India, and whenever they went back to visit family there they would bring me something, a couple times it was a kurta/kurti. I always adored that style, and have kept those two they gifted me to this day, even though they would absolutely not fit me now, nor would I attempt to wear them! xD I know there’s some traditional garments worn in places like Indonesia and Vietnam that have a similar basic structure- a long tunic/dress over pants, often with the tunic/dress having slits up the sides- that are similarly gorgeous! Seems like some Eastern/Asian countries have had this dress-over-pants style perfected for centuries!!

This video is so good. It gives such a clear intro to layering. And it's so nice to see plus-size people used as the fashion inspo here. In so many video's they only show outfits on thin people, which is great but lacks a relatability for me. What looks good on one body type doesn't look the same on the other. So seeing people with bodies I can relate to makes this video just that much better. Thank you!

Omg I LOVE this video!! Layering is such a good way to make your clothes feel new again and resist the urge to buy more. I tried out layering two skirts on top of each other bc of you and loved it!! It gave a petticoat effect and was so pretty :) Mesh is a fabric that is great for layering and can be used similar to sheer! I have a mesh dress that I love to style kinda how you did the sheer one, sandwiched where either the top or bottom is showing and the reverse is covered! I also love layering fishnets on top of another pair of leggings. Another tip is for button up dresses. I love to unbutton them and wear them loose over my outfit, kinda like a duster or long cardigan or vest (i have a sleeveless one). It’s so unexpected! I feel like it’s the only way I personally will wear a dress over pants 😂

S-o-o-o good!! Awesome tutorial! You organized the information expertly. I especially enjoyed your addition of both terms and images to accompany your verbal explanation of each layering technique. I also appreciated your tips regarding layering combinations that might not look the best such as avoiding tight, short tops/dresses over pants and your suggestion that dresses over pants, rather than jeans, seem to offer a more harmonious aesthetic. Your observation that accessories should also be considered as other layering opportunities expanded my awareness of layering. I can't imagine the enormous amount of work that you did to conceptualize, organize, and execute your presentations. Thank you so much for your effort - love your work

one of my favorite bases to use for a simple yet unique outfit is a tennis dress with a collar! if you put even a t-shirt over it, you get an interesting look! its a bit preppy because of the collar but more casual due to the t-shirt - pairing it with sneakers and crew socks makes it a bit sporty again. super simple but looks fun every time!

The most important thing is to match colours. You won't look good if you are wearing orange plaid coat, with a neon pink shirt and a grandma curtain coloured skirt. If you wear an orange plaid coat with a black or brown/tan shirt with a black or brown skirt, you will look a lot better, and you won't look like you just grabbed the first thing you saw in your closet that morning because you woke up 30 minutes late. Colour is the MOST important aspect of fashion and clothing, it doesn't matter about the brand of the clothing, or the price. Anyone can create a nice wardrobe for an affordable price if you focus on colours. I've been emo my whole life so everything in my wardrobe is black, other than the prints on the band shirts. Wear your favorite colour of clothing and match the tints of the colours too. The amazing thing about wearing all black clothing is that it goes well with everything, and you don't have to worry about the tint of black because it's all the same.

@80apocryphal13 Жыл бұрын
My go to combo this time of year is a turtleneck under a dress, but I recently realized my wide leg linen pants work under my silky dresses/skirts, and I can see that becoming a transitional season go-to the same way that a tank/tee and leggings under a sheer dress is currently. This video was great though and gave me SO MANY IDEAS. I gotta try layering a tank over a turtleneck since my brain always skips over that combo and, even though most my skirts are the same length, I can think of one double skirt combo that should work. I love vests and went out of my way to own the full gamut of styles, excepting a more fitted one, but they're under-utilized and having visual references was great! Also, this helped me figure out where I should still look for variety in the future; I usually discount items in heavier fabrics or with interesting sleeves, but I can see the value in having one or two now. Saved and will be referencing back to in the future!
